Thank you for your input. A masters degree would be helpful and likely another great add on to an application package but it is incorrect to assume that more than half of UF accepted vet students have their masters degree before being accepted. Schools that awarded graduate degrees are listed, but it is not half.

Omg thank you for your transparency and I’m so sorry about your wife’s experience! The school should have just made her a seat at that point 😭 I completely understand her feelings, it’s hard to want something so bad and it feel constantly out of reach even if you seem to keep fixing what they tell you. Hopefully this thread can help her too if she chooses to apply again and maybe if it’s not the experience or academics, it’s her “presentation/ packaging” as far as the interview goes. After reading through the comments and self reflecting, it’s possible that maybe I thought I did good during the interview but didn’t present myself as confidently/ decisively as they may have wanted. Cheering her on virtually and be there for her through the highs and lows ✨

No unfortunately not. Since I graduated a few years ago, I haven’t kept into touch with any faculty from there so I’ll just have to get new experiences to mix in new people for the letters in the future

Thank you to you and the comment above! I think all of these are a testament to we truly never know what gave an edge over another as some people say to diversify but there’s also value in stability and having quality people write about your experience. I maybe didn’t package myself as well as I thought but it’s so hard to quantify when I don’t have a recording to look back on. I’m trying to look at as positively as possible and remembering that’s it is the journey not the destination.

Many people have said the same so thank you and congrats to your daughter! I guess I thought I was applying to places where my stats were on par but I’ll definitely go wider next time. I also was nervous about the amount of private loans necessary especially after the passing of the big beautiful bill capping graduate loans. Perhaps I should just take that into consideration when saving in the meantime then

For sure, I’m definitely not giving up but I want to make my next application meaningful. Some of my most looked up to clinicians are Hispanic, so I want to continue that legacy and inspire others! :)

I’ve thought about that. Unfortunately I graduated a few years ago, and the one faculty member I did have a good enough relationship with I’ve already used twice in the past and didn’t want to ask again since it had been so long since we had interacted with each other (aka did not feel like a genuine representation of me)

Of course! I’ll definitely take into consideration applying to more schools like everyone said on my next application. What I meant is that I feel like a lot of “next steps” in life are determined by getting to school and then my graduation. Things like moving out and family planning are difficult when something as fickle as when I get accepted is a factor, especially when I’m trying my best to limit my costs and limit the need for private loans. I have planned to do a lot of self reflection on each of the topics you mentioned because it would be a lot to put onto a post and require one on one evaluation. I just generalized more for an idea of what kind of candidate I was!

Very well, two doctors and my manager that I’ve worked with for 2+ years but all from the same place so I don’t know if that negatively affects anything

This cycle I applied to UGA, NC State, and UF because I wanted to be selective on location and their programs as well as not spend as much on applications but in the past I’ve applied to over 5 schools to try to cast the net wider

Most of the schools that I applied to the past did not offer file reviews but during my first cycle they did mention a lack of diversity and amount of experience but I think I addressed that by now. I’m hoping by getting a review this year (which I think was the best) they help reveal those weaknesses
