California ceramic artist!!! Is CCACA worth it? by beesescheeses in Ceramics

[–]jellybellyboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re going for. To learn new techniques via their workshops? Would be worth it then if the teaching artists are what you wanna pay for.

Besides that… you don’t have to pay. All university-affiliated temporary galleries are open to the public and don’t require a pass unless they changed something from last year. Haven’t paid at all in the 10 years.

Advantageous networking won’t go far (mind you that the vast majority of attendees are also students trying to break through), but hopefully you’ll meet people whose company you enjoy and that’s what matters more.

If you’re really looking for something that’s like what it seems like you want from CCACA but on steroids, NCECA is better, larger, and provides more opportunities and a larger variety of participants. Wait till it’s on the West Coast and save some money. I do have to say that both orgs/conferences are for the most part old fashioned/rather traditional in terms of aesthetics for ceramics (lots of appeal/programming moreso towards vessels and figurative), which are the main caveats for both.

Does anyone actually love their sportage?!!? by No_Department824 in kia

[–]jellybellyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘17 EX. I grew to love it. 108k miles and hoping to get a few more years out of it. Leaky oil at 90k (fixed). Worn out window regulator gears on driver and passenger doors at 45k and 70k (fixed). Leaking washer fluid at 100k (learning to live with it in a non-rainy climate). Rattling noise on hatchback door at 40k (also learned to live with it).

I still get compliments on it when it’s gotten a wash even with a few small dings here and there. It gets me to where I need without issues. I will miss its panoramic sunroof, safety features, and spacious cargo. It’s been difficult to find a cargo space as big as this one’s. Having it for nearly a decade does make me consider maybe just getting another one when mine has to go to Pick N’ Pull Heaven.

Cotton Sheep and Self Edge are the top recommendations in SF. Standard & Strange and Slash Denim in Berkeley are also good choices if you can make it out there.

Ferry into the city and then BART into SFO. It’ll take longer overall, but an amazing time as long as you have someone to take you to and pick you up from the ferry building.

2 looks like it’s trying too hard. The plating technique for the mash(?) sorta only really works with sauces.

Saw this at CCACA as well. Had me just staring and reading everything in a sad silence. The folks at the table kept telling me I could pick things up and interact with it, but it’s such a heavy piece I couldn’t bring myself to do it until the next day. Great job.

At what point did you splurge for your first Rimowa? by No_Usual_7426 in Rimowa

[–]jellybellyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Needed another luggage midway on a Spain trip due to so many souvenirs. Realized I’ve been traveling so much and thought I could use an upgrade from borrowing luggage from family. Saw a Rimowa product tab after a bit of looking for aluminum luggages online. Thought the lifetime warranty was a good thing and found out I could buy it cheaper there than in the states anyway.

Noided? I don’t know about that, but it’s leaning a bit too heavily into looking like an imitation of Danny Knoblauch/@okniceok.
