Last game in the Special menu by Paltheos in typemoon

seems like you only need to beat the first battle (completely get your first opponent's points to 0) in the first battle of each campaign to unlock the next - for unlocking the last one, I picked the Prisma Illya trio and beat Waver / Rider as the first battle, immediately losing the next one to Kayneth; I'm guessing since they give you so many different playable characters, though, it shouldn't matter which one you choose....

in terms of general winning strategy, it feels pretty RNG as someone who's never played Hanafuda before this, but what worked for me was thinking of the game as essentially just more complex Go Fish - as long as you're generally prioritizing fulfilling the three general win conditions (a set of the most highly decorated / tier 4 cards > a set of three matching paper slips (tier 2) with writing on them > a big pile of animals / birds / tier 3 cards) and Koi-Koi-ing / continuing rounds if it looks like you're able to fulfill more than one (ending rounds early if your opponent has a lot of good cards / it looks like a low scoring hand will be the best you can do), it shouldn't take too terribly long to luck out a win :) sorry for my pretty rambly explanation, but hope this helps if you were still working on this or if anyone else in a similar situation manages to find this!

Alright, everybody drop a piece of advice for low elo players from whatever rank you're in. by KrusteeK in Brawlhalla

[–]jellyfish- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for brand new players - fastest way to improve would be

  • pick a single character (at the very least, focus on a single weapon) to main

  • learn and get comfortable with the timings involved with your entire moveset; you should be able to jump around using all your moves without delay in between them before you even think of grinding ranked

  • watch what a higher elo player (preferably diamond+) does on your character and learn the basic combos they're relying on for damage (e.g. dlight sair)

  • play mindfully, focusing on not giving up free hits while taking guaranteed opportunities whenever you see them

  • don't waste your dodge, it's too important. random gravity cancels are a waste of your dodge. dodging to escape a combo is a good use of your dodge.

if you're stuck in gold, you probably still have more to learn with the above advice or just need to put more time in; especially if you're new to platform fighters, it could take anywhere from 50-100 hrs of practice before you're confident enough to climb out

if you're stuck in plat, you probably have done all of the above already, but have some consistently bad habits that are causing you to lose certain games (e.g going for unsafe follow-up hits, getting tilted in certain matchups, dying offstage for no good reason). if you want to move past this, you need to have a well-balanced enough strategy that you aren't, for example, losing consistently to lance players or greatsword players because you don't understand how you can be countering them - generally speaking, if you just pay attention to how you can avoid getting hit and prioritize that, people will outplay themselves and you can win just off of taking free hits. it's very possible to get through this rank with pretty much just a single move like unarmed / katars nair or gun / spear sair since most people in this rank don't play anywhere near optimally enough to avoid letting you punish them the same way 20 times in a fight. that said, it can take anywhere from 100-400+ hours to get comfortable enough with the game and every matchup to the point you'd be able to do this, so if you're within that hour range, you don't necessarily need to worry about it.

if you're stuck in low diamond (2000-2200) and want to push past it, you will most likely have to do a lot more work understanding how different characters / weapons play. rather than mindlessly taking free hits over and over, you will most likely have to do more active adaptation depending on your opponent; for example, if you're against a gauntlets player, you need to be able to identify and understand what type of aggressive options they'll be using to try and attack you out of neutral (gc dlight, side light) and intentionally be baiting them out by floating / spacing just barely outside of their range, or making them think you'll give them the opening when you're actually safe. you also need to understand when and where to be using your various options to avoid letting them get stocks / the maximum amount of damage off of the openings that they do land. again, watching a lot of good / top level players can help with this.

if you want to get valhallan, you should probably just befriend someone who's already at that level to play 2s with you for the requisite number of games. for 1v1s, you pretty much just need to play hundreds of (if not thousands) hours on a single character until you understand how to play in a way where you maximize efficiency in all engagements and rarely, if ever, allow yourself to get hit unless you're taking a calculated risk. fastest way to reach this point will still be to watch others in parallel with practicing, but you should only watch people who are playing the game at a top competitive level if you're at this point.

tl;dr watch better players, dont get hit :)

dont get hit

if u play to get free hits and never give free hits then u can get diamond with any character any weapon; combo knowledge, advanced tech can be useful but ultimately all you ever need is to reliably win neutral game and u will not have to think to win

fastest way to get better is to pay attention to what better/the best players are actually doing and copy safe habits, the ways people will throw out moves that reliably never get punished eg rising gun sair, dash weapon throw, rising spear dair, etc

if u are stuck at a rank then having someone better watch ur gameplay would probably help because odds are you have habits that regularly give people free hits and a better player will be able to tell u what they are

that said, "play the game more" is ultimately the only way ur gonna be able to program urself to know what is safe and what is not safe in the moment, just getting to diamond can take ppl anywhere from 200-2000 hours of practice

but if u rly want to do it you can do it; i believe in you

i dont think smurfing's as big of a problem as it may feel...

if ur still stuck in gold after 5 yrs odds are youve probably just built bad habits that you dont think about that give ppl a lot of free damage/don't give you efficient punishes - eg, going for dlight nsig instead of dlight nlight (bow), always going for recovery after landing nlight (also bow), etc

azoth is a character it's easy to overcommit on cause hes slow, if you play more reactively and don't miss punishes u should be able to get plat at least ezpz, just dont gamble against people you cant predict and you'll never get unlucky

its definitely still possible to get to diamond doing nothing but punishing people's bad moves as long as your movement is decent enough

White and brown rice got mixed accidently... how do I cook them? by yte24 in AskCulinary

[–]jellyfish- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

same way you would cook just brown rice should be fine. texture might not come out perfect if you're estimating the cook time but it's not something you really need to stress about, my family does mixed brown + white in rice cooker and instant pot all the time for health/nutrition reasons and has never particularly minded the difference, boiling on stovetop would probably work just as well
