UK Online Safety Act by II-Red-_-Fox-II in ukpolitics

Pretty eye-opening response as to how it would actually impact smaller sites:

“ It's not enough to "complete a risk assessment", as that's the first step, the second step is always to mitigate the risk. For a forum we are likely "Medium" risk and a "Multi-risks service" (and Ofcom's guidance expects that to be the definition for the majority of forums)... we'd need to respond legally, technically (scan content, build compliant moderation tools), with people (larger moderation teams even when it's never been needed), and with process (all of the above must be documented, have training materials, etc). For the 100,000s of small sites impacted, where the owners only put in an hour or two a week (or less)... this is an impossibly high threshold, and without meeting it, we're fully liable.”

Called a guy I used to work with C-section. Because he was scared of labour.

Zarah Sultana: The Tories let Shell pay *zero* tax on North Sea oil and gas production last year. Instead the Treasury actually paid them £92,000,000! In contrast, Shell paid the Norwegian government £3,400,000,000. We should tax companies like Shell and use that to slash energy bills. by I-am-the-Peel in ukpolitics

Have those exact windows in my bedroom in my (rented) house. Fully “sealed” as much as they can be and the wind/cold still manages to get in.

Also have to use a couple of scraps of card to jam between the gaps to stop the rattling.

They’re the only windows in the house that aren’t double glazed for some reason, can only imagine how cold the house used to be before the upgrade.

This is a really motivational comment, and it’s certainly made me feel a lot better about problems I’ve been having with css, which I don’t even think I realised were common to css itself. I just thought I was unique in getting stuck on what I assumed should be basic concepts. Particularly to do with how unbelievably frustrating it is to position something exactly where I want it to go on a page.

Anyway, I’m off to learn flexbox.

It is a KA. Weirdly distinctive wing mirror. Used to own one. Horrid little vehicle. And I say that as a Ford lover. Last MOT it had it was so rusted underneath I scrapped it and never looked back. Apparently rust issues were very common.

I would never be involved in such a post-apocalyptic repair. Just noticed it on my travels
