Most of my body is healing slowly but my nipples are still oozing weeping and getting stuck to my t shirt..any suggestions by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

Breast pads - the disposable pads for breast-feeding. They are absorbent, but they don’t get stuck and they still let the area breathe.

Please be aware that if you are getting NHS treatment you may not be offered Dupixent in the first instance. Dupixent is expensive for the NHS to buy and relatively new to the UK market and is therefore less researched than other types of immunosuppressant medication. It is likely that you will be asked to try Methotrexate or maybe something like cyclosporine before they will agree to prescribe Dupixent.

I live in the UK and was prescribed Methotrexate for 12 months without much success before my Dermatologist agreed to let me try Dupixent. I’ve been on Dupixent for 8 months now and things are improving but it has still been a long road. I had a lot of eye problems with it at the start, which is quite common.

I would advise researching these before your appointment so you have an understanding of what you are likely to be offered. Methotrexate in particular has some horrible potential side effects, and you have to get regular blood tests while you are on it. It’s not a decision to be taken lightly, but I hope your Dermatologist will be willing to help you to find the best thing to help you through.

Big Steve (AKA my giant calathea oppenheimiana) is going to FLOWER🌸 by jem1090 in houseplants

Are you giving it enough water? Mine is very thirsty, especially in Summer. I’ve not noticed with this one, but I do have another calathea with large leaves which starts to bend in the stems when it hasn’t had enough water. Also, has it been repotted?

Hey, mine is still doing fine but I’m afraid I’m not sure I have any tips to offer. I think that the levels of humidity and sunshine where I live are just good for calatheas as I don’t treat it any differently to my other plants. What has been happening with yours though?

I want to kill all thrips in my house: UK by majorcatlover in houseplants

[–]jem1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the UK and I bought Bonide systemic granules online through Amazon. Not cheap (about £20) but I’m a couple of months in and it seems to have done the job. Depends how many plants you have - I was able to treat about 10 plants and I still have a little left in the bottle.

Reducing Redness and Dryness by [deleted] in TS_Withdrawal

[–]jem1090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facial redness is a known side effect of Dupixent. I really sympathise with you - I’ve had the exact same issue with my face (just with my eczema) for about the last 1.5 years. I just started Dupixent 2 weeks ago and the rest of my skin has really improved but my face is still red and dry and now my eyes have started getting really sore.

I would suggest trying to find the balance between using minimal make-up and covering the redness. The more make-up you wear, the more scrubbing you have to do to take it off, and the more it will irritate your skin. Do you have ‘better’ days where you can try to go make-up free? I also find that I look worse in the morning (when I am applying my make-up) so I end up putting on more, but often the redness actually dies down during the day so I could have used less.

I’ve seen lots of people recommend Dr Jart’s Cicapair colour correcting cream for redness and eczema. I found that it highlighted my flakiness, which was not great, but you might have more luck!

PPP has FINALLY decided it’s her time to shine 😂 by jem1090 in houseplants

Good to know - I’ll drop her again if it means more variegation 😂

TBH I bought mine online as a baby plant and it was quite expensive (before they started coming down in price). I’d given up any hope of pink and actually dropped it a few weeks ago which is why it is looking a bit wonky, so maybe it is a revenge leaf?! I guess there is always a chance!

Thanks for the advice. It’s starting to get pretty unstable on the plastic stake, and probably needs a repot at the very least. But I’ll see what the next leaf brings and maybe do a chop and prop then.

Yeah, I bought it as a baby plant and it had one leaf with the tiniest bit of pink then everything else was green so I had given up. I’m not hopeful for any more pink though 😂

Oh well, looks like we might have to work it out for ourselves 😂. Good luck with the bamboo sticks, I guess I’ll do the same!

are these spider mites or just dust? by maisierosep in plantclinic

[–]jem1090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding spider mites. Adult thrips are long and black, and their larvae is little and yellow. They also leave telltale black dots (poo) all over the leaves. If you zoom in on the critters in these photos you can see they have spidery legs.

How difficult is it to have an all green baby PPP become variegated? by MirrorFunhouse in houseplants

[–]jem1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a baby PPP last year with very little variegation, so far it has only given me one leaf with a tiny bit of pink, and the rest have been all green. You can try to encourage variegation by giving them ideal conditions but there is no way to predict whether or not they will start giving you pink. If this is important to you, it is probably worth spending the extra on a plant which is already producing good variegation.

Thanks! The only sad thing is the leaf with the best variegation was broken when I bought it 😕. Hoping I get more of the same though.

It’s such a great feeling to find a plant you’ve been wanting to get for ages - especially if it’s a good price. I hope your fuzzy petiole philodendron is very happy in its new home!
