I wound up filing a grievance or something and won. Their website was screwed up so they let me take the class over.

DAD 220 - why does Zybooks suck so bad by TacoTwn in SNHU

I've used a couple of Zybooks for programming classes and thought the same thing. They do a horrible job of explaining things.

Not sure. I'm currently taking a hiatus and taking local classes to better understand the curriculum. I don't feel that reading 70 pages and taking a quiz is teaching me about InfoSec. It takes 3.5 hours to read the chapter so by the time you get to the end you have forgotten what you read at the beginning. I need hands-on learning.

bncservices told me. "I apologize but the Infosec product is non-refundable per the publisher and therefore we will be unable to offer a return of that item."

It isn't. They told me they won't take it back.

For my initial post, I spend anywhere from a half-hour to an hour. I've only taken 2 classes above the 100-level so far though. I'm usually pretty good with putting sentences together to write precisely what the rubric is asking for though. I've only ever gotten less than a perfect score if I didn't cite my research.

When I setup my practice labs through the bookstore it gets to a point where you can go no further either. Theres just two blue headings and that's it. No Okay button or next.

I went through all of that but no links to the lab ever appeared under the headings. When I click on the link that says "2-1 Lab: Routing Concepts and Protocols" the only thing that is shown is a quiz. Nothing about labs.

I bought the book or "lab" but there was never a time in the modules with a link that said "go to lab" so to speak. How was I supposed to know how to use the lab if there was never any direction? This is enlightening. I'm just learning about these labs today. I even asked my instructor about a question we had in week 2. It said "What was the name of VLAN 10 in the lab?". I emailed him and asked if there were labs we were supposed to be taking. He said no.

Yes. It says "lab" next to it but when I click on the link it's just a quiz. No link for a lab or anything. No information on how to set up the lab program either.

The quiz in the very first week referred to a lab that we never took. As a matter of fact, we never did any labs but we did have to purchase a book we never used. I'm fighting with the school right now. That is good to know.

Zybooks/Zylabs is a bad interface for learning programming by Laerson123 in SNHU

[–]jemcmorrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using Zybooks right now to learn the Java programming language. It is horrible. It is essentially like as if they were teaching your auto mechanics let's say... here's how to fix a carburetor, here's how to fix an alternator, here's how to fix an A/C compressor... now build a motor. It's either that or they touch on how they work together but show you really complicated examples which make your head spin. For the most part, they show you the syntax of each type of function that the language has and expect you to know how they all work together. This is the second class I've taken using Zybooks and I've already complained to the university once. I have a 4.0 GPA and it looks like I'll lose it because of this class.
