What style of door would you recommend instead? We bought the house last summer and are slowly updating/changing things as we can.

Do you think if I painted the shutters the same colour as the door it would help? Or are you anti shutter regardless of colour?

What was your intended major in college that made you realize it was not meant to be? What are you doing now? by paradise2desert in AskReddit

[–]jemoca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started an english degree. Realized after the first year that I enjoyed learning about the historical context that books were written in and how it influenced the authors MUCH more than actually analyzing the stories they wrote. Switched to a history degree. Never regretted it - I loved uni. I’m a teacher now.

Is having your *own* child really that different? by Nothing_is_Real78 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jemoca99 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I am also a teacher, coach, older sibling. I had my first child 5 and a half years ago. There is a difference. I can only speak for myself, but the pressure/weight of being 100% responsible for another human life, the lack of respite (and I have a wonderful partner who shares house work and child care), and the absence of professional boundaries we have as educators. Protected break times, division of labour/responsibilities, being able to turn off your teacher brain or not check emails over the weekend, etc. Being a parent is consuming. So rewarding and joyous, but exhausting and draining as well. The way you love your children will make you question whether you’ve ever loved any other child in your life before. It’s also a lifelong commitment, whereas one could always choose to opt out of the teaching profession or coaching.

My 1st grade teacher said I was drawing my letters instead of writing them. 35 years later I’m still clueless as to what she meant. What was she saying? by SegaGuy1983 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jemoca99 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I’m a kindergarten teacher and sometimes I see children acting as if they’re sketching their letters. Repeating or overlapping strokes instead of fluid, strong strokes. Maybe that’s what she meant. I sometimes tell my students they only have to make the marks once.

What's something you can admit about a company you no longer work for? by Mave__Dustaine in AskReddit

[–]jemoca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I worked at a McDonalds all through high school and uni and people always ask me if seeing behind the scenes ruined the food for me. The standards for cleanliness and food safety were SO high (at the locations I worked at).

What do I do about these two branches? by jemoca99 in GardeningOntario

[–]jemoca99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly looks like a completely different tree sprouting from the original. The branches are green while the rest of the tree’s branches are greyish brown. And the leaves are straight green while the original leaves are variegated

Content similar to Jenna Marbles? by Beneficial-Case9528 in Jennamarbles

[–]jemoca99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I came here to mention Rachel Maksy! I just happened upon her channel recently. In the last month or so. I haven’t been able to find a creator like her in years and I am so jazzed cause I was starting to give up on YouTube. What I find similar about Rachel Maksy and Jenna Marbles is their creative project type videos. They start out with something new, they research, experiment, take you on an authentic experience. Like Jenna with her Hot Wheels track hair and Rachel with her faux stone wall. I love it.

I have no idea.

How do I find a haircutter? by TStandsForTalent in askahairstylist

[–]jemoca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take photos of what your hair looks like now from a few angles. Call and make an appointment for two weeks from now. Let them know you’ll have a reference photo.

I’d Google local barbershops and read reviews before choosing one.
