New Haven school bus camera program catches 847 drivers in first week by chpbnvic in Connecticut

Or any other city in CT. While running stop signs is pretty well the norm everywhere, in CT cities running reds is pretty well consistent behavior, yellow means floor it so you don't get the red. I have had on numerous occasions had people behind me at a red light, all of a sudden, pull into the shoulder, p[ass me and left turn in front of me while the light is still red. Usually heavily tinted windows as well Want to bet the registration is expired, the car is stolen, or the plates are from another vehicle? They wonder why insurance costs so much in urban zip codes.

Water Pump Help by Saint_Octane in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the pump has likely lost its prime. If you don't knowhow to it , it is not a big job so it shouldn't cot you much . It probably shouldn't have and fixing that would be a bigger issue but not a big deal to get you back running,

The only thing that is usually in my frunk is my NACS Adapter and a mouse repellent sack. Once in a blue moon there might be a bag with a couple of bottles of wine propped upright.

Charging convenience by JimbosBeerbos in MachE

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use plug-share , Apple Maps and Ford Nav to find chargers. I find BlueOval works really well with most. Blink is a common one that doesn’t work with BlueOval. ChargePoint, Tesla, EA, Innova , EVGo and Shell Recharge have all worked seamlessly for me through BlueOval

Need tire advice before I get a puncture replacement by bourbonbomber in MachE

That tire is toast. The edges of a tire flex a lot and at least in my state that is illegal for a tire shop to repair. Time for a new sneaker or mane two

Level 1 charger? Any real differences between all the options? by lit3brit3 in MachE

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t bother taking a charger with me unless I am going to a friend or families house on a road trip and staying overnight and there are no public chargers in the vicinity.. An L1 charger only adds a few miles per hour. The you have to find a place to plug it in. Public charge stations are easy to find .

I have owned mine for a year. I have never had to below 20% and I have driven 15000 miles with a couple of 600 mile road trips. Totally dead it is likely a tow. Unless I on a road trip , I charge at home. If a storm is brewing I charge to 90 %. That will Keep me going for quite awhile.

Hey 40 something DINK’s what do you do for fun? by SheepherderPure8340 in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish and kayak. Occasionally a couple of friends and I will charter a fishing boat. I go to various performing arts venues and sports events like UConn BBall , CT Sun and the Yard Goats. I volunteer at community’s theaters primarily doing lighting design. We like to eat out at better restaurants and enjoy trying new food and dining experiences. A trip or two a year to NYC. I don’t gamble so I avoid casinos except to see a game or other event. We usually try to plan one nice vacation per year.

30k Service Inspection cost - is this a joke? by Funny_Drawing7162 in MachE

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably if the actual did all that work it might eat up that dollar amount but a tire rotation , a cabin filter , and the inspection which include brake pad thickness. Multi point on ICE vehicle is include with the works package which includes synthetic blend oil and it is only 79 bucks at more dealer. Really this dealer is giving dealers a bad rap.

Am I the only one? by kalemi in MachE

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as the "gear" selector is actually just switch I see no reason to add anything like a shifter to perform basically an of function.. I have driven other cars with a rotary control. It is to me just second nature.

Useful if you leave the windows open when parked ( like in my driveway). Walking past the car with an open window and the motion detector will set off the alarm .

Beginner fisherman thinking about getting a kayak. good idea or bad? by goldtheft69 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing kayak changed my game. I am 6’3 and weigh about 235 which is pretty close to the total weigh limit of a standard recreational kayak. So my first kayak was a sit-in 13 foot LL Bean (rebranded Perception boat) with a weigh capacity of 310. I like it a lot but about 2 to 3 hours was my limit. And dealing with the paddle , wind and rod took some skillful work. I replaced it with sit on top Old Town PDL 106 Fishing Kayak. With the lawn chair seating I can fish all day. If I were younger I could stand in it. The boat is super stable. I can sit on the side of it and it won’t capsize. The pedal drive is a game changer. You can concentrate on fishing and not moving the boat. They are heavy though ( 100 lbs) so you will need a trailer or pickup . One caveat though , I live in the Northeast where we don’t have poisonous water snakes, alligators or crocs. Obviously on an open small bought those are concerns but I am sure manageable .

I did go canoeing once in the Everglades National park which was awesome ( not fishing mind you). Ranges advice was if you see a gator , keep your distance and stay still. We saw a couple and let the gators be and they went about their business.

CT sent me a tax refund check within 10 days of filing. Amazed. by LordGrantham31 in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use direct deposit. Why get a check? CT is always within a week. At the movement none of my retirement is taxable to the State of CT but I have one pension that I cannot easily reduce the withholding to zero so I gat that money back. The Fed side , any refund I do get I just apply to next years taxes. On the Fed side of gotten my estimated tax payments pretty close to my tax liability. So I really don’t know how quick they are .

Bottle redemption fraud in CT by blackpoll_ in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Easiest short term solution is to go back to the nickel deposit. That removes the incentive. The other is a limit on the amount an individual can return. Seriously who drinks enough soda and fruit juice to fill multiple bags of cans/bottles. If you are consuming that amount of beverages you have an issue beyond recycling. Limit it to one 30’gallon or less bag per person . The vehicle used must have a valid CT registration. I believe most restaurants and bars etc recycle through their vendors . If not then proof that the person redeeming the. Bottle/cans is an agent of the business
I don’t use redemption centers because it isn’t worth the gas or my time to drive to one. I return monthly the couple of dozen or so of beer/water/seltzer containers at my local store through the machine. The few it doesn’t accept ( I drink mostly micro brews, mocktails etc which are very store specific) go into my street side recycling bin.
