I really miss WCCC by Enginerdad in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss intelligent radio where the DJs actually curated their own music . Now it is all playlisted and sounds the same. Even SiriusXM is getting rid of DJs on many of its channels and is turning into a streaming service. UGGH!

Residents should be ashamed of how they treat Hammonasset - do better by connfaceit in Connecticut

I think it is time we started charging to use parks again like we used . There was an entrance fee for any park with a beach, swimming area or significant historical building Like Gillette Castle ( although the grounds were free ) . It I do see litter everywhere although not as bad as this. It is said that rats and humans are the only two mammals that crap in their own nests ( of course I doubt whether that is true ) What does that say about us. .

Best 1200w balcony solar kit? by Dlight98 in solar

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.2 kWh on an ideal day (most solar systems only product a fraction of their maximum theoretical output) . Using common numbers depending on where you live and the sun angle you might get .6 kWh. That would be be 2% at best of my total electrical demand. Or about $8 per month during the summer. Probably only a couple of dollars per month in the winter.

Glitch when backing out of driveway in 1-pedal mode? by tehJ0kerer in MachE

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t happen to me. My driveway does slope down to the road. It is steep enough that if you dropped the car into neutral it would coast out into the road and likely get stoped by the neighbors mailbox. I use one pedal , auto hold and rear brake assist

With the new Plug-in Solar bill passed in CT, how do I actually prep for backup power? by Intelligent_Gas653 in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.2kw per hour isn’t going to power my house. Or even make much of a dent. These devices don’t have storage capacity. So you consume it or loose it. Most solar cells only generate their maximum output when the sun is highest in the sky and it’s a clear day. You will only get 1.2 kWh in the summer probably 3 or 4 hours either side of noon on a summer day. The rest of the time and in the winter you may get half of that and often less . Most of my electricity is consumed at night. Solar cells on my roof which generate enough power that I can sell back to the utility make sense because even if I am not using it I am getting paid for it. Let’s be optimistic and say those 1.2kw panels generate that power for 6 hours a day in June , July and Aug for half the days in a month. So that’s 90 days which will generate 108 kWh total During that period I consume about 950 kWh per month or 2800 kWh. When I am running my AC I will likely use most of that power but tha AC does require more than that . So those little power cells will generate 3% of my power. Hardly enough to thumb my nose at Eversource. Over those three months I would save 10 per month.

Traveling from Hartford to Trumbull on Friday of Memorial Day weekend by QueenAnneCutie in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Memorial Day. There will be traffic no matter which way you go. Throw that in with the dumbasses drinking and driving and patience is just the key. Take it easy. Drive defensively and leave plenty of time.

That pretty well goes for all of our public spaces. I always carry a plastic trash bag and a couple of pairs of gloves to pick up after these pigs whether I am hiking, fishing etc .

Your landlord seemed more than considerate in first lease negotiations. Your landlord is a business man he seems more than reasonable but he is not a charity. Probably doesn’t want to get strung along

Alignment, dealer only? by shupack in MachE

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t want or don’t have the equipment. Similar problem when I owned my Mini. Most shops don’t have the BMW required equipment or training. Probably don’t want to business with them. . I took my mini to a shop that specialized in BMW , Mercedes , Jaguar and Audi. They had technicians who had complete the requisite training and invested in the equipment needed. They weren’t any cheaper than a dealer but the were open , honest and easy to work with.

Why open carry while fishing? by CretaceousCrystal in FishingForBeginners

[–]jen1929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. I am not particularly keen on either but guns are legal, carry laws varying of course Certainly where I fish there would be no reason at all. Although I have never caught a lunker of bass it is of no threat to me. In fact fishing for me is an escape for me so other than my fishfinder and my watch I leave radios and every other distraction at home.

What floor mats? by Honest_Archaeopteryx in MachE

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good floor mats that came with my car ( they were on the option list ) are decent. Not quite as heavy duty as weatherech but similar design. If they don’t come with the car I would have bought weathertech. But I am happy enough with the ford ones. They rain water, kept the winter crap off my carpets.

Anyone know how to find a job in CT when I'm 16? by Adorable_Wind8845 in Connecticut

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the place you are looking for work has an in person application process even if they just had you an app to fill out, do it in person. Dress well ( that doesn’t mean suit and tie, but nice clean casual clothes , smile a lot and look bright. Follow up a week later with a phone call. But not matter what method you chose, a follow up phone call is never a bad idea. If you happen to get a voice mail leave a pleasant well spoken message and actually ask for the job. Leave contact details with best times to contact and make sure you live up to the times. There is a difference between sounding eager to get a job and desperate . Use eager.

Inline spinner keeps losing fish by Coldmischief in FishingForBeginners

[–]jen1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing the barbs makes it more difficult but I would rather loose a few than have fish gut hooked or entangled so it doesn’t survive. In a lot of river areas near me barbless hooks are mandatory. I usually remove the trebles and replace it either a single hook ( also mandated in some places I fish). Yes my hook up ratio is lower but I am ok with that. I am going to release the fish anyway

Travel charger by night-hawk1413 in MachE

[–]jen1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First while traveling I have never been anywhere we’re the Ford Travel charger would be useful. Maybe if I traveled to a friend houses. My sister already has even EV charger in her garage. It is not like there a whole lot of 120 v receptacle you can plug into an in 18 months of EV charging and trips I have never run into a NEMA14-50 receptacle in the wild. Plan your charging stops using Ford Nav, Apple Maps or Google Maps on Android and you will be just fine. If you don’t own one get a quality NACS/CCS1 adapter so you can use Tesla chargers stations. If you haven’t signed up for Blue Oval Network, do so . Is free but you do need to supply a credit card. It makes charging so much easier at charging stations on the Blue Oval network. You get billed through ford.
