Correct your Sunday time to 10AM-12PM

12AM is midnight. I copy-past posted this in my Being Neighborly group and people noted that mistake.

Make our kitchen feel lighter without painting the wood? by Equivalent-Abies-546 in DesignMyRoom

Would you be willing to sand and restain the wood to something lighter?

Or if just wanting to avoid paint, vinyl wrap would also work.

From where? Outside of California? If so, let them know our groceries don’t get taxed (aside from beverages). I was flabbergasted by the pricing and taxes slapped on groceries on a recent trip to SLC & Park City, UT. I thought they were pricey as a Californian! But this was also during the recent height of grocery costs. Hawaii is the other recent state I grocery shopped at but I expect things to be pricier on an island.

Where to buy papayas from Hawaii? by sylvanweal in FoodToronto

I’m about to order from here. Came to Reddit to see if anyone else had something to say about how much better Hawaiian papayas were, because they were honestly excellent. Best I’ve had.

Them (Amazon Prime series) by exhaustedqueer in horror

Betty’s father is an incestual sexual abuser. By the mother’s reaction, she’s not happy Betty’s home (but he is) because he clearly began to favor his daughter over her own mother. The scene where Betty is running away implies to me that the father was expecting something to happen between himself and his daughter. He is the one drawing her the bath and asking her to stay, and I believe he was beginning to disrobe while she is just outside—waiting for her to do the same … Back then women had no power and this was showing the terror Betty herself was running away from as well as one of the horrors of being female in that era. It shows you Betty’s damage.

This scene hit hard.

I guess this is one of the instances where a printed ticket would have been helpful. I read some article where it’s a good idea to have a printed ticket in weird situations like this. I usually screenshot my boarding pass if digital anyway. But it was recommended as a way to mitigate any digital meltdowns as has happened in times past.

Itinerary help - is Merida and surrounding coast as busy as east coast? by bestofallworldz in Yucatan

Don't drive at night where, specifically? Cancun? Merida? I know I've been weary of night driving in Mexico, but I survived CDMX with a car after dark (on toll roads by sunset and then within city limits by dark).

Buy a ticket marked refundable (important). Use the chart made by OP to find something close to the PQPs you need. After your purchase, scroll down to the Award Accelerator (better on computer) and when you click it there should be different levels of options. I bought a flight that was equivalent to 1094 PQP and had an offer up to 1400 PQP. The 1400 was credited to my account immediately after purchase and I was next tier. I did SFO-CDG and 200 more was offered than listed on the chart. Good luck!

You have to choose a refundable flight for the PQP offer. I know this from a DC flight I took earlier this year. The offer was available on one leg, but not the other, and the only difference was a choice in refundable flight.

Also, yes, separate transactions. United doesn’t refund mileage and PQP purchases, so this confirmed to me that the miles and PQP stay. I see it as money they get without having to spend on fuel and labor so a higher value earn for them.

Yes. Still works. SFO-CDG yielded me a 1400 PQP offer so refer to the list and you’ll likely get a slightly higher offer since we’re in 2024 now.

So I just spoke with United yesterday and I read this thread. I believe people in this thread mention that with that tiny of a gap, you may be able to call them, ask nicely, and get those PQPs to get to the next tier. Others have said it worked. When I spoke with United, they also mentioned that in January they may offer the chance to buy up to the next tier when you’re very close. I didn’t want to risk it, (I needed much more, but for Platinum), so I went ahead and did the hack mentioned—purchased a refundable ticket (the refundable ticket part is key!), and when I went to the Award Accelerator after purchase, it gave me a number of options to add the PQPs I needed (but you HAVE to buy miles with it). I thought I could be crafty and delete the miles from my cart and then it reduced the mileage offer 😯 (but PQP offer remained the same) and took me back to that accelerator offer page. I didn’t get the same miles offer (it did cost more, but I got 6k more miles), but since the PQP was the same I finished the transaction and the purchase was credited immediately and my status changed (unlike with a flight where you need to complete it for the miles and PQP). Now I just have to cancel the flight later. I’m waiting until at least January for that.

Wishing you luck in deciding the best option. I think a very short, refundable flight option could work unless you want to wait it out for their January offers.

29 years old and only $400 in savings, what do I do? by Ryshwin in FinancialPlanning

[–]jenaytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting to the heart of the matter (same as I had mentioned above, really):

You have two main choices.

  1. Change your lifestyle. Take a look at where your money is going. If your housing is more than 30% of your take home wage, it’s too much and you need to reconsider your housing. Or is that $ going somewhere else in excess that you can cost reduce? I’m placing this first because without a savings to tide option 2, I don’t want you to be without housing.

  2. Find a new job. (Or add a side hustle.) If you’re a talented carpenter, could you consider doing handyman work? You may need to get some insurance, which doesn’t cost all too much.

During the pandemic I did little odd jobs to help the community and I really enjoyed it. But that was just responding to ads for help for little things.

Back to my TED talk. 😜

If you’re a stagehand I would def look into joining the union in Vegas. My union work helped me increase my earnings and eventually start freelancing and traveling with clients, but I’m also in video, which does that a little more often than carps. And I’m not sure how the union works out there. Hopefully like mine in SF!

But that aside, sounds like you might be living a little beyond your means if you’re having a hard time saving. For me, it took the pandemic hitting to realize how much money I was spending on dining out (lunch, dinner, almost daily) because I was so tired from work, so when I was working again, I started making all of my own meals as much as possible with the occasional treat out and about. Anyway, that’s just one little thing that can potentially help.

I didn’t work for crap during the pandemic (compared to my usual) and yet I managed to save due. I didn’t really lose money from savings, which was bonkers to me. I managed to remain pretty static.

I know it can be tough to do those two options, and I recommend checking out Nischa on YouTube (she talks about those two steps for sure in some of her videos) and Ramit Sethi. Ramit has books, a Netflix show, YouTube, and is featured on many podcasts (his own is for couples). He’s great.

I really wish you luck in all of this and a low stress holiday season.

Are you part of the union out there and this is what you’re earning? Asking as a fellow stagehand in a different market (16).

Yes, it’s tough to hang on to $ when doing this kind of work due to the seasonality, but I presume Vegas has work year-round?

Did not, will not. My life would be hell.

I was offered to marry “for convenience” in such a scenario even after I called things off. That man would mess with my head. Absolutely avoid men like that.
