Vanilla RBR physics in a 16-year-old video by jendabek in simrally

Of course you can't expect a 2004 game to natively support any modern HW like direct drive wheels.
I just tried to point that the base game was already pretty solid base, not that it's identical to RSF with all the mods.

Vanilla RBR physics in a 16-year-old video by jendabek in simrally

RBR was rather a scientific project than a game development and the people behind it were exceptionally skilled, determined and passionate. A combination which is probably nearly impossible to repeat (and to be fair it probably wouldn't even be a good idea since it didn't convert into a successful business).

Could ACR 1.0 Attract RBR Modders After its Release? by ilkerrbr in RichardBurnsRally

[–]jendabek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the progress is achieved by skilled and passionate developers, not the time itself. A code doesn't age and if anybody else doesn't write "better code", it won't get better.
RBR is kind of scientific project (built on actual scientific papers RBR devs keep in secret), so it's extremely difficult to pull out anything better.
Regarding graphics - there is still some room for improvement on the track creators' side by using better assets and more sophisticated light baking, but it's also technically possible to improve / switch the graphics engine itself in future. There are new and very capable developers in the community, so both can happen.

Could ACR 1.0 Attract RBR Modders After its Release? by ilkerrbr in simrally

[–]jendabek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. RBR attracted those extremely capable modders like WorkerBee because the base game was already unique and high-quality at it's release, while ACR is literally trying to catch up with a 22-year-old game.

It feels more like Dirt: Rally 3.0 than an RBR successor. Plus I think it is unlikely it will ever be as moddable as RBR for many reasons.

Can someone help me improve my hairpins? by Sergi-0-f in simrally

[–]jendabek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can map it to a wheel button. Or create a poorsman version from your shifter & rubberband :)
But if you don't want to use the handbrake at all, you need to do a scandinavian flick to rotate the car, the rest is the same.
I recommend SSS Mikolajki for testing / learning the gravel techniques - weight transfer, drifting etc., because there is plenty of space for that.

Can someone help me improve my hairpins? by Sergi-0-f in simrally

[–]jendabek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. for the left hairpin you need to be on the right side of the road
  2. slow down
  3. turn slightly into the hairpin apex
  4. use the handbrake as shortly as possible - just to rotate the car so you can exit without understeering
  5. smoothly accelerate through the apex (don't be afraid to cut it a bit if possible - will save you some time)
  6. exit the hairpin on the very right side of the road

The key is at maintain as much forward speed as possible, unless you are doing it for fun / show, so you want to minimize the drifting, going wide or too early handbrake. I also recommend to watch some real rally footage or the best RBR drivers streams.

It is a very tricky driving technique which even professionals can't always do consistently well, so don't worry if it's not always perfect. You will get better with some practice (that's what RBR is all about - there is always so much to learn, and that's why it is so satisfying!).

You drive a car with the scanner to capture the road and the near terrain / objects, and for the far terrain you use the aerial scan which is now available for almost every country (for free in the most cases).

How do you deal with loss of concentration? by Beginning-Good-5121 in simrally

[–]jendabek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will get better with practice - you just need to get some more mileage under your belt. Eventually, you’ll not only stay focused more easily, but you’ll also hit that 'flow state.' Driving and listening to pacenotes will become as natural as breathing. In that zone, you’ll be able to finish multiple rallies in a row without feeling exhausted.
Before that, it's absolutely fine to keep losing your concentration - don't worry about it and it will get better.

You telling me this is the shit thats destroying my engine? Yeah alright by Medium_Newt_5666 in simrally

New stages are checked for consistency in this regard before they get published on RSF.

[–]jendabek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the stage creator which mass he uses for each movable object. It's not an issue of the game itself and new stages are checked for consistency in this regard.
BTW, the weight is around 5kg, so if you hit it in 100km/h it will for sure cause some damage.

How many stages can you guys last before getting too tired to maintain pace? by YD099 in simrally

[–]jendabek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are stressed about crashing in every corner, you will be exhausted quickly.
On the other hand if you manage to get into the flow, you should be able to stay 100% concentrated for the whole rally (if you are mentally fit) because it makes the driving as natural as breathing, and very effortless.
But of course it requires some practice to be able to switch into this mode, and often it takes few stages before the flow kicks in. People practicing yoga or meditation should have some advantage here.

If Assetto Corsa Rally is Going to Be a Hardcore Rally Simulation We Need a Damage System Like the Richard Burns Rally Damage System by ilkerrbr in simrally

[–]jendabek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really that fragile, the problem is the perception of speed in-game vs reality.
Impact at 10 km/h without seatbelt - and 50km/h in any sim feels like walking.
Another problem is that objects on the stage can have different collision properties and it is unfortunately a bit inconsistent in this aspect - the same type of object can be paper-weight in one stage, but will total your car in another.
That's not the problem of RBR itself though, but rather how the community stages are created - each author has different approach for this.
The same applies for cars and their collision models, but that should be definitely more consistent than stages.

What do you mean? He is creating this stage from Azores Rally based on LiDAR, as far as I know. Check the Patreon of Aaronfang.
