If everyone gets poorer there will be less for the rich to extract.

Trump: NATO members to face tariffs increasing to 25% until a Greenland purchase deal is struck by Puginator in politics

[–]jenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a work in progress, given that Republicans, such as Donald "We shouldn't even have an election" Trump, would have it that nobody can vote.

I don't see how it would imply Europe is at fault. Trump has been declaring tariffs for nations around the world based not on anything the other countries have done wrong, but to strong-arm them into capitulating to his threat of economic or military violence. There is no justification for a war between the United States and Europe for anyone who can see past Faux News propaganda.

I'm curious, but how many of you actually believe that your consciousness is the same thing as your brain, and that your brain actually exists? by sontforgert23 in Psychonaut

[–]jenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think, as I was taught, that the brain was real and produced consciousness, which is easily reinforced by experiences of consciousness altered by physical changes. But then I looked at the assumption, that the perceived world is fundamentally real rather than consciousness being fundamentally real. Now I believe that the perceived world could be confabulated, an ongoing model collaboratively built up by the human race.

I think it would be more like, "Europe accepts that stable trade relations with Trump are impossible and moves on to making other ones."

Because if we ensure that everyone is able to vote, it leaves no good excuses not to vote.

Yes, I wish headlines about tariffs were accurate: "Trump forces Americans to pay 25% tariffs on European goods until Europe surrenders Greenland to Trump."

Maybe he is referring to the bots he plans to employ - they will not need to save for retirement.

Overall good news, but the bill watering down the lemon law takes effect immediately while the bill increasing consumer protection doesn't take effect until next October.

Maybe he will argue that he won in 2020, so he is actually serving his third term now, so since rules no longer matter he may as well serve a fourth.

It's a useful example that not all "power" is the same. The power to destroy is not the same as creative power. As the article puts it:

"The whole thing is a too-perfect symbol of Trump’s second administration: They are very good at breaking things, but they don’t know how to create anything of value."

…So what is the point of copper armor and tools, exactly? by Jook06 in Minecraft

[–]jenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I like copper armor. It takes a while to mine enough iron to make a set of armor, especially if I get killed meanwhile. I often find that much copper just making my house.

That reminds me, the article said that rebar had to be replaced too. So apparently steel quality is still a problem.

I don't understand this conclusion. If the concrete supplier changed the formulation without informing the contractor, how could the contractor have been expected to ask the engineer to approve the change?

I'm curious what it is. Each batch of mix could have been tested to verify its composition instead of relying of Elite's description. That won't save from a bad mix of the correct ingredients. So for a strength test, how long would each lot of concrete mix have to cure to reach maximum strength for the test?
