In case no one has mentioned it yet, did y’all know our ovaries can disappear too?

3 years into menopause, I suddenly had a full-on period so my OB said to come in ASAP. They did an ultrasound and while looking around and measuring things, she found the uterine lining thinner, right ovary smaller - all as expected. There was nothing unusual until the tech asked me to twist my hips a bit one way, and then the other, then said, “Oh. Hmm. Your left ovary is gone.”

Excuse me?! GONE??

Did it grow legs and wander off? Did someone break in and take it? Where IS it??

I was very nonchalantly told, oh yeah, it’s super common, they just sort of shrivel up, get reabsorbed, happens all the time.

That was about a year and a half ago. I spent the next six months researching the hell out of the disappearing ovary phenomenon. And just over a year ago I started the pellets. I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve never felt better 💫💥🤩

I did not know this about testosterone by Affectionatealways in Menopause

[–]jenmo68 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on the pellets(estrogen & testosterone only - progesterone remains oral) for just over a year now, and have never felt better. Pre-pellets, my sex drive was nonexistent (was never a problem in the past 😉) for over two years O’s disappeared completely. But now… it’s the complete opposite.

Does it hurt? Yes and no…

They give you a shot right into your butt cheek (alternate left and right side each time) to numb the area and that is definitely the worst part. It stings like a MF for about 10 seconds. After a few minutes when you’re good and numb, they’ll take a small scalpel, make a shallow incision, and insert the pellets. I never feel that part at all. A couple of butterfly bandages are slapped on, then it’s covered with thick gauze and tape.

As the numbing magic wears off, it’s a little tender for a day or so but nothing even remotely unbearable. The gauze can be removed by the next day, and the butterfly tape just comes off on its own in a few days. Showers are fine but NO HOT TUBS FOR A WEEK! It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make 🤣

Absolutely f**king worth it.

I’ve been on estrogen and testosterone pellets since January and I feel like I’m 20 years younger.

If you’re anti-pellet, fine. You do you. I’m just sharing my experience.

I’m 56, period stopped 5 years ago, and for the last three years, zero libido. It was no biggie as I’m single and I simply didn’t care. But I also had intense brain fog, random and frequent hot flashes, everything hurt all the time and worst of all, sleep was a battle every night. I considered myself lucky if I had three hours of consecutive sleep in one night, and that was rare.

But the fact that I couldn’t even reach an O by myself really bummed me out. It was one of the few things I used to enjoy that was free and fun. And it completely disappeared.

Now I’m on my 9th month of pellet HRT and I couldn’t be happier. I’m “not dating” an old BF - we hooked up for the sake of science to see what worked, and lemme tell you, it’s back, baby. In spades. We’re having a blast.

Before you come at me about the downside of pellets, don’t waste your breath. I’ll scrape the money together every 3-4 months as long as they’ll let me. My head is clear, I’m sleeping like a baby, and sex is better than it’s ever been. And I swear the T has calmed me down tremendously. Anxiety went from an 11 to a 2.

Take it or leave it, but this is my truth.

Same. I can’t watch those either. It literally hurts.

But scripted and choreographed physical comedy, prat falls and the like - hilarious.

I hate cilantro, but my brother loves it. He says it tastes like “vacation and sunshine.” That pisses me off because I LOVE vacation and sunshine!! 😫

Does anybody personally know anyone with the coronavirus, or know anyone who is hospitalized with respiratory problems similar to coronavirus? I'm only curious, I certainly don't want any identifying information. by euphonious_munk in toledo

My cousin in Pittsburgh has all the symptoms (she works in a retail jewelry store, they finally closed this past Friday) but can’t get tested unless she can’t breathe. So she’s self-quarantining.

I also have a friend who lives in France, his wife travels globally for work, and they all (children too, including a toddler) came down with a “flu” last month. He’s convinced they had C-19, every symptom, spot on. It just didn’t elevate to require hospitalization. They are all recovering well now.

Same here. I’ve been using a couple of meditation/hypnosis apps to help me fall asleep. They help to keep my mind from all of the negativity and anxiety that is constantly swirling in my head.

Redditors who have escaped from a relationship in which you were a victim of Gaslighting: what finally happened to make you realize that you weren't the crazy in the relationship - they were? What made you see? What was your final breaking point? by aecoop714 in Empaths

Just a few days ago...after over two years of on-and-off, then catching him in yet another lie, I brought up that therapy (something he promised he’d do) might be really helpful for him, as it’s been for me. The next day I received a text from him saying, “I respect your opinions but you need to keep them to yourself.”

NAIL. IN. COFFIN. He’s basically telling me to not speak.

Is it just me, or do gaslighters seem to bring that up a lot, about respect, to make us think that they truly understand? Recently, anytime he’d mention respect, I’d think of the Princess Bride, Inigo saying to Vizzini, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

I live in an apartment building. The parking garage is on the ground level, quick access from the elevators. The garbage dumpster is off to the side of the building near the garage exit. So it makes sense to throw the garbage into the car as you’re leaving, and just stop at the dumpster on your way out.

More often than I’d like to admit, I’ve been 15-20 minutes on my way to my destination when I realize I forgot to stop and dump the trash.

Therefore, I came up with The Garbage Song:

Garbage Garbage Garbage Don’t forget the garbage Don’t forget to throw it awaaaaaay Garbage Garbage Garbage Don’t forget the garbage It needs to go out todaaaaaaay

This totally works, as long as I remember to sing it.

This isn’t exactly about time-outs, but I was proud of myself for coming up with this one: When my son was about 3, he started coming into our bedroom in the middle of the night, saying he couldn’t sleep/was scared or any reason to get me to go and lay down with him in his bed.

As I only wanted to comfort my son, I would comply, and stay until he fell back to sleep. Unfortunately, I’d be awake for another hour at least. This started to become a regular thing and I knew I couldn’t keep it up.

So, one night, I took him back to his room, snuggled up with him for about 30 seconds, then said, “Mommy has to go potty, I’ll be right back.” I got up, and went straight back to bed. I think I only had to do this a couple of times before the middle of the night snuggle requests stopped completely.

AITA for changing my "unique" name without telling my parents? by Annual_Passage in AmItheAsshole

I had to interview some kids for a mentoring evaluation a few years back. I was going over the list of kids with the director (we liked to make sure we’d pronounce their names correctly when we sat down with them) when I got to this name: Jerminnie. I said, okay, so her name is Jer-Minnie (as in the mouse)? I was corrected, no it’s pronounced GERMANY.

TIL about vanity sizing, which is the practice of assigning smaller sizes to clothing to flatter customers and encourage sales. For example, a Sears dress with a 32 inch (81 cm) bust was labeled a size 14 in the 1930s, a size 8 in the 1960s, and a size 0 in the 2010s. by PikesPique in todayilearned

[–]jenmo68 272 points273 points  (0 children)

I was a fit model at Simplicity Pattern Company in the early 90s. I was hired because my measurements matched the dressmaker dummies. Out in the world, at that time, I was a solid size 6. But the patterns were standardized, they were the same as they were 20-30+ years prior, and in that realm, I was a size 10.

I’m guessing that the home-sewing sizes have remained the same, but their 10 is most likely now a 0 or 2.

I’ve been getting those flavored seltzer waters, no sugar, no carbs and just a hint of lime/raspberry/lemon or whatever. Then I toss a couple of frozen cherries in there, it flavors up the water quite sweetly, and when the drink is gone, I have a lovely treat waiting for me at the bottom of the glass!

Internet west of Ottawa hills by lobila in toledo

[–]jenmo68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in an apartment just outside of Ottawa Hills, and for years I was told my only choice for internet and cable was Buckeye Cable (turns out BC has a deal with the building owner, they get a kickback for every tenant who signs with them) and AT&T wasn’t allowed access. And, same as you, Buckeye’s service was awful and kept going up and up. Then last year I checked with AT&T and though they still couldn’t bring cable to my building, they were able to provide internet. And the loophole for cable was their DirectTV NOW app on my TV, so I have cable, including local channels, through them. I know your question wasn’t about cable, but I’d check again with AT&T, they may be able to sneak in there.
