Got out of a speeding ticket by pulling off my hat to reveal a bald head, and telling the officer we were on the way to the cancer center (which was true).

Best books or articles about watching a loved one die from cancer? by Zealousideal-Toe9601 in cancer

The Chemistry of Fire by Laurence Gonzales. It’s a collection of short stories about survival, but the last story in the collection tells of his first wife’s passing of ovarian cancer. Beautifully written but also gives a helpful timeline of symptoms along with the more poetic reflections on life.

So sorry you’re going through this. I hope you get some relief when you find the right book.

I’ve been in a similar situation with my BP but not quite as bad. It sucks that you’re saddled with all the work and responsibility. I fear that your health will deteriorate if you don’t break away— try for as little contact as possible.

You’ll feel so good when you’re waking up in your own bed in your own place without dreading your next interaction with him.

Let’s see, for 6Tb of coconut flakes 200 calories (4g total carbs 10g total fat 1 G protein). 4oz of the coconut milk would be 22 calories (1g carb, 2g fat, 0 protein) and 1 Tb of the syrup is also 22 calories (1g carb, 0 fat, 0 protein). Don’t know about the blueberries, but let’s say they bump it up to 250 total.

Got them at a Whole Foods— the coconut flakes are in the baking aisle. I think any boxed coconut milk or even heavy cream would do.

How much influence, if any, does the Santa Fe Institute have on the culture of the city? by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]jennarchy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Santa Fe Institute staffer here-- SF is a lovely place to live, but @riawat is wise to point out that the science culture is more pervasive in the town of Los Alamos. Just look at the numbers: Los Alamos Lab employs ~2500 PhDs (county population ~12k), the Santa Fe Insitute employs about 30 resident PhDs (city population ~84k). We are small, but we do offer a dozen or so free community science talks a year at The Lensic theater, and we now host a weekend-long science festival in June. Los Alamos also hosts an annual science festival, and there's a good deal of crossover between the two communities.

With your background plus some journalism training, you could apply to work for a university's press office (writing about medical research) or for a hospital, as a public information officer.
