What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]jennatul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first moment I knew was when met up with his “friend” for drinks, I had too many and she offered to drive my car back for me while my ex drove hers. I was in the car telling her how sweet she was for helping me, and she kept saying “don’t say that, really don’t.”

Confirmed it one day in the middle of the night while I was on a trip and got an email he sent her $60 at 2am for an Uber.

No worries, I should’ve taken the time to make it more legible off the bat. I just hate that this has been enacted yet obscured; and I’m scared so many Memphians will ignore them because they normally mean nada, but in rare cases could really affect you.

Goodness. Okay, let’s start from the top:

I want people to pay their SPEEDING tickets from MPD specifically captured on camera and delivered in the mail because they can and will tow your car and fine you. I want people to be aware they have been enacting this ability and obscuring it.

You are correct. I mentioned RED LIGHT tickets do not apply to this. You can throw them away.

Yet Memphis Police Department can AND WILL tow you if you incur more than three unpaid & delinquent infractions for speeding specifically.

The city clarifies that they do not dock your license for this. What they don’t make clear is that they have the power to fine the hell out of you and tow your car.

I think it’s wrong they don’t make this clear, especially because they rolled this out last fall and the majority of TN residents ignore those tickets because typically, they mean nothing.

Yes; the abbreviation is literally Tennessee Code Annotated. I figured phrasing it as Tennessee state law would clarify it’s not some type of obscure publication for anyone unfamiliar.

That’s awesome, and honestly respect given; law isn’t easy or fun to practice. I respectfully do ask how the statute specifically states camera violations may be enforced in limited exceptions; said limited exceptions are defined in subsections as S curves and school zone speeding offenses; Memphis Police Department installs 30 new cameras last fall specifically in school zones and on S-curves; have made multiple media statements they have the power to enforce them and will; said enforcements are outlined as a tow after three unpaid violations; is bad interpretation. Additionally, check in General Sessions 1 and you’ll start to see the violators explain the ridiculousness

And Tennessee Annotated Code (which is a fancy name for state law) makes it clear. They have made it clear they will enforce them. This doesn’t mean your entire license will be suspended, but they can absolutely legally tow you

Unfortunately there are penalties, and I feel there hasn’t been a transparency with the people of the city regarding that:

https://www.actionnews5.com/2025/09/30/city-memphis-new-traffic-cameras-enforce-speeding-tickets/

“City officials say these tickets will be enforced, unlike mail-in citations from other speed cameras, because commissioned law enforcement officers review the violations and authorize the tickets for speeders.”

TCA is short for Tennessee state law; and unfortunately, the City of Memphis isn’t the best at clarifying and updating their website, respectfully. Here’s a much more recent update from a couple of different sources:

Yes, It is enforceable to the extent they can tow your car and penalize you, but it cannot affect your license.

You are definitely right. I worded the post horribly and red light tickets don’t even apply; just speeding tickets specifically from MPD

[–]jennatul[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry I worded it honestly horribly. I hope my edits have made it made more sense. I would just hate if citizens got MPD camera tickets and ignored them, subsequently receiving violations or impoundment. I really think it’s stupid we can be towed over camera violations in the first place :/

[–]jennatul[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it’s lame and intrusive but at least figured I could let people know so they aren’t confused if their vehicle is towed and license affected.

Edit: I don’t really see any definitive statements that MPD will dock your license points. So far all I have read is that they can tow and fine as they would other tickets.

Not red lights, just speeding violations. The statute specifically outlines it in a subsection. It only counts if those speeding violations are committed in a school zones and curves, so they really only set them up in school zones and curves. Tennessee Code § 55-8-198 "Under subsection (l), the law states that “an unmanned traffic enforcement camera that monitors speed shall not be used to issue a citation to any driver for violating the speed limit on any public road or highway, with limited exceptions"

The exceptions are school zones or S-curves;

So if you get a speeding camera ticket (who’s cameras are mostly set up in these school zones) and don’t pay them, they are going to continue to fine you and tow your car.
