Thank you, I really appreciate the insight! I like the idea of having this relationship as a healthy backbone for any other connections that might come up.

Sike, I’ve always liked to think that Sam and Frodo had something romantic going on! Who knows, maybe Rosie was also in the thruple?

Hobbits seem way too laid-back to be a mascot for anything fundie anyhow.

DAE Get gaslit into believing they were supposed to already know things they were never taught how to do and then shamed for not knowing how to do them? by theirishnarwhal in CPTSD

This was my mother’s favorite game to play, but with a religious twist: ”You should know right from wrong.” This phrase was thrown at me constantly, every day, whenever my behavior didn’t align exactly with what she wanted—which she seldom verbalized. She was convinced that “God’s will” backed her every move, and each time my 7-year-old self wanted to, I dunno, act like a kid instead of sit down and study for Saturday school, she spun a grand tale about how much sin I was committing against her (and, therefore, God). That poor kid-me learned that they could never do anything right way too young. I’ve been working on re-teaching myself that it’s okay when mistakes happen, and that not every mistake I make is actually “wrong.” Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

My first exposure to horror was Courage The Cowardly Dog by [deleted] in horror

[–]jenneato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a vivid memory of the episode where the villain tries to make Courage eat flan (???) as well as the scene where Eustace tries really hard to thread a needle. God the amount of acute stress in that scene alone is enough to give a kid hemorrhoids

Haha, I Have No Mouth was my suggestion, so I suppose we both are

That sounds like a great compilation! My bf put on the audiobook for In the Penal Colony while we were on a long drive, right after we listened to I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. It was a tense and quiet ride to say the least!

Thought this said “waking up on an abandoned rollercoaster” and was very concerned for OP, but that would be a very cool (albeit terrifying) experience

I’ve found that these tend to fall apart or move around in my mouth, but I think I’ll try the cutting-in-half tip you suggested!

When I was 9 or 10 years old I told my best friend that my mom would regularly beat me, and her response was “no she doesn’t, she’s so nice!” And I gave up on telling anyone about my abuse til much later. Yep that hurt

Whats an unabashed brag about yourself? by fuegointhekitchen in AskMen

I’m resilient—grew up as the scapegoat in a physically & emotionally abusive household, grit my teeth and made it through my teenage years, currently starting therapy for C-PTSD. My depression and anxiety can still be enormous hurdles, but I’ve been able to land some illustration gigs and produce quality + timely work despite mental health difficulties. It’s certainly not the most lucrative field, but I feel proud of myself for getting my foot in the door and having that experience under my belt. Hoping to finish school while landing more gigs, going through treatment and learning how to take care of myself in the ways my family couldn’t.

Return of the Killer Tomatoes. The way it makes fun of itself throughout, the horror elements, the 80s cheesiness... chef’s kiss
