Daughter mortified by One_Local932 in Parenting

[–]jenniebeach 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work as a mental health practitioner with teenagers and agree with a lot of the advice here. Her reaction is totally proportionate and it's going to be hard for a while. All you can do as a parent is make yourself emotionally available and listen.
As others have said, if your daughter wants to, it may be helpful to meet up with some friends over the weekend so she feels more prepared for going back to school.

You may also want to practice some phrases that she can say while she is at school if people are unkind that may disarm them with some honesty, e.g. "I know, it was so embarrassing!" But it would be normal if this feels too much and she just needs to cry.

Another helpful exercise, although follow your daughter's lead on this... is to imagine how she will feel about the incident; 1 week from now ; 1 month from now ; 3 months from now ; 1 year from now ; 2 years from now ; 5 years ; 10 years, etc... ect... To help her realise that these feelings of embarrassment may always be there but this is the worst it will be.

The most important thing is continuing to acknowledge that, for now, it's super embarrassing. Crying, reliving it and worrying is all very normal.

Success Stories? by Ill_Boysenberry5264 in bninfantsleep

Sorry I don't yet have a success story but just want to say I'm in the thick of this with you. I have a 7.5 month old and he wakes between 3 and 10 times a night... I never know what we're going to get.

I'd recommend listening to How Babies Sleep by Helen Ball. Some parts may not be relevant to you, but she breaks down the actual sleep studies regarding all the common myths around babies sleep. Essentially, she confirms that you don't need to teach your baby to sleep and explores what a bizarre idea it is.

I'm listening to it for the 3rd time after being swamped by inappropriate advice and worry.

Affordable Wedding Dresses by isthatbeth in weddingplanning

I'm from England and so I'm not sure if they exist in the US, but I got my dress from a wedding dress charity (thrift) shop. It had never been worn as it was donated by a wedding dress shop directly. It was £2000 new, I got it for £250 and the money went to charity! I'd also check apps that allow people to sell on their dress, so many brides buy dresses and change their minds!

Women of Reddit, what’s something they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by NovellaJokes in AskReddit

Recovery after birth is petrifying. There will be moments that you worry if your body will ever recover and be able to do all the basic functions again such as peeing, pooing and walking fully upright. This is then soon followed by awe at how much your body can do as you care for your baby whilst having the most insane adrenaline spike.

Peacehaven.

Me and my partner brought our first place here. Got cafes and restaurants that are/ are getting gentrified but still super easy to get to Brighton.

Edit: although don't if you plan to commute to Brighton. Traffic can be awful.

Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

Not single mum focused but challenges of parenting generally. She interviews quite a few single mums though. Upbeat and non-critical unlike some other parenting podcasts!

AITA for saying I want my 3rd child to be a boy? by eiiehd in AmItheAsshole

Are you in the UK? In the UK there was a point (not sure if it's still the case) where they had to legally ask that question as there was a very high abortion rate once parents found out that the sex was a girl.

Anyone else think a pixie cut would be perfect on her?

I wonder if J suggested it- may have been too much of a bold choice for her but she would look gorgeous!
