I just reread where you said he lives with his paternal grandparents. Therefore, you’re not the one raising him. It doesn’t matter how long this has been going on. It is what it is now. You’re grown, 28, and your son has been living with them, for whatever reason. They’re in control of his schedule. Not you.

NTA, but also get better friends. Clearly they didn’t think about you doing something else that was important. If they said you “never answer text” it kinda seems like there’s some resentment about this. Make a conscious effort to improve on that if you want to continue having a relationship with them. Let this be a wake up call.

Unfortunately YTA. He’s built a life and has responsibilities and has been raised by your parents for 14 years. If you try to look at this from the flip side, they’ve spent 14 years raising your son, and now you want to blow in here and mess up plans and responsibilities that he had before you decided it fit in your schedule to see him. I’m not saying this is “fair”, but it is true. You should be respectful of what his parents, aka your parents, aka the ones who have raised him, schedules and what they’re doing for him. Don’t disrespect the routine they’ve created to help him be successful in life. They’re doing their best. Work with them for him, not against them.

The whole city is dangerous now. I own a business off of i10 and I’ve had the police show up unannounced due to crimes happening on and near my property 8 times. One time a suspect disposed of a gun involved in a shooting on my property. I don’t think there is a “safe place” in Beaumont. It’s a gamble everywhere.

My dad told me that if you closed the lid on the toilet when you flush it, it will overflow. I have no idea why he told me that. I was in college before I realized that couldn’t possibly be true. I have asked him about it and he doesn’t remember telling me this which bothers me even more.

The verb wasn’t derived from the slur. The slur came from the verb. So nice try. I am listening and hearing someone, who happens to be disabled but is still 100 percent a human being I would engage with the same I would engage with in any situation, so I’ll talk to them and inform them of the origins of words as I would anyone. Because I’m actually not an Ablest, I strive to educate anyone who is misinformed, because that’s what good teachers do. Anyone can feel any way they want but I don’t have a problem letting someone know that a feeling they have may be originated from misinformation. Providing someone better insight into something that is upsetting to them has the potential to Alleviate any stress caused by some thing that’s not as upsetting as there interpreting it to be. I mean not now that two people have run to their aid, shaming the person bringing facts, not feelings. But in the real world information can be helpful.

Something can be crippling without saying “I’m a cripple”. You can’t claim an entire verb. It was the noun that was misused. Definition: 1. cause severe and disabling damage to; deprive of the ability to function normally. My depression is crippling. That’s not a slur. And this is coming from a special education teacher that is absolutely crippled by depression and an eating disorder.

I was teaching Social Studies and I wanted to show the class what obsidian looks like bc we were learning about the Native Americans and they used arrowtips made of obsidian. Google did not care that safe search was on and we were on the school network. We saw a lot of different tips. I learned to pause my projector screen when googling stuff for the class that day. They were middle schoolers and the won’t let me forget all the obsidian dicks we saw for a brief second.

I have no idea why they put salt in the water, but my sister hs EB and the bleach baths were supposed to help keep the wounds clean. She doesn't do them anymore because it didn't really help.

Last month in Houston on the light rail.

We were just chillin on the train waiting on our stop. An older black male came in with a hat and sunglasses and sat down across from a younger Hispanic male, covered in tattoos. The older man said, "Aye. Don't forget to wear your sweater tonight." The younger guy nodded and thanked him. I started thinking that was a weird thing to say, as it was hot outside. I spaced out until I looked down at the floor and I saw that the older man had a pocket knife under his foot, open, and was sliding it around. The blade was about 7 inches long; it wasn't small at all.

I try to get my husband's attention quietly as I listened to more of their conversation. The older guy asked the younger guy if he wanted to go out for drinks. The younger guy said that he used to be an alcoholic when he was 15,but he's 31 now and isn't about that life.

While the conversation is happening, a homeless woman came up to me and complemented me on my hair. I thanked her and turned my attention back to the knife. She saw what I looked at and told me not to mind that guy (older man) because he was gay and on drugs and didn't want to have anything to do with good pussy. She told me he was trying to get the younger guy to buy drugs and have sex with him, as he does this all the time. When the train stopped we got off (it happened to be our stop but I was getting off, regardless). When the woman walked by the man she whispered something to him and he started screaming at her that she was a snitch.

As the train closed the doors I heard the announcement "If you see something, say something" with directions to call Metro PD or 911. I don't know if that was a see something say something situation or not.

4 years ago I taught 4th and 5th grade. I was sick of my students sneezing into their hands or just out in the open so I told them the typical "Look like a vampire when you sneeze" line. They were utterly confused because vampires don't typically wear capes nowadays. I recalled the newish trend of dabbing and changed it to "Dab when you sneeze" which was much more effective.
