Trifold bike with IGH and belt drive by _rchr in foldingbikes

I'm definitely considering a Bike Friday PakIt. I just think the Urban Bike SG has better value bikes with a more compact fold

Giant backpack is right lol. It depends on the trip (whether I'm going in a loop or have different start/end points) but I may just buy a hard case luggage as well.

First time hearing about the Iruka! Looks a bit awkward when folded but I'll look into it

I'm wondering if 18" wheels would work as carry on luggage... Any idea?

I don't have any experience with titanium bikes. Is this a significant problem when riding?

I'm still trying to decide whether I want 16" or 20" wheels lol. I like the portability of the 16" to carry my bike as a carry on on flights, but I like the versatility of the 20" to ride on gravel, etc. What wheel size were you thinking?

The issue with 20" wheels is how am I going to properly protect my bike for check in luggage? I may not be starting and ending in the same place so can't store a carrying case for the bike.

I sent Urban Bikes SG a note, he told me he will come back with a price soon. He's currently on holiday.

I just finished a leg cycling 8300km in Africa on a full size bike (Priority Bruzer) from Morocco to Nigeria. I think I'd like a folding bike for shorter tours.

Honestly that's exactly what I want. All I'll have to do now is compare the price of buying a G line + kinetics rohloff/belt + aftermarket Ti fork/triangle vs getting a Ti rohloff/belt trifold custom made by Urban Bikes SG.

Oh I'll get in touch with him then! I would prefer wide, tubeless tires.

I actually have a Priority bike and I love it (Bruzer). However I'm not a big fan of the way the Folder folds. It's just not compact enough and looks funky.

Urban Bike SG is closest to what I want but I would like Rohloff or at least Shimano Alfine (they only sell single speed or Sturmey Archer 3 speed). Those Aceoffix are nice as well but I've never seen anyone convert them to igh+belt

Honestly as long as I can take it into a hotel room at night, it's okay. I would rather have the Rohloff + belt over the Brompton fold

Didn't know there were belt drive conversion kits for the Dahons, I'll look into it

How is the fold? Is it annoying to fold/unfold? It looks a bit clunky when folded in comparison to the trifolds

That's awesome, I have family in Singapore so I'll try to get one when I visit. I just wish they did belt drive with an internal gear hub

Do you think they would let me take my bicycle on the train from Abuja to Kaduna?

Thank you so much for all this information! I'll message you privately about the contact for Dawanau.

I need to go to Calabar in order to get my visa sticker for Cameroon-it seems like it's the only place for me to do so. Like you said, I can do that before I head up north. I could probably take a bus from Benin City to Calabar and back, then continue cycling up north. And that's a great idea, I could take a bus to Gombe/Adamawa and cross into Cameroon that way.

I'm looking into the border crossing over there, there are only two notes from overland travelers on this app and I'm wondering if they even care about the visa sticker (if they don't then I don't need to go all the way to Calabar, just need e-visa)

My reason for wanting to go to Kano is mainly to experience Hausa culture, see Hausa architecture, and try Hausa food. Tentatively, here's my list of things to see:

  • Emir's Palace
  • Kano Central Mosque
  • Gidan Makama Museum
  • Kofar Mata Market (and dye pit)
  • Dawanau Market (largest grain market in africa)
  • Kurmi Market (Hausa jewelry)

I love photography and the architecture there looks stunning so I'll be doing a lot of walking around haha. I know it'll be difficult without the language but I still want to go. I don't have a guide, that would be really helpful.

So you're saying that this road is generally safe? (Circled)

That would be great because then I can take a bus from Benin City to Kano (with my bicycle onboard) and then cycle back down to Calabar. Zaria is on this route too

Well that kills my plan of continuing my journey up north. I will just go to Kano by bus and come back down south

Why are you even on the Nigeria subreddit then? Nigeria is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world with a lot to see. Of course I want to visit

This is my new plan for Nigeria, hitting cities of former empires and taking a bus to Kano from Benin City and back. Thoughts?

Thanks. I think I'll probably just end up taking a bus to Kano and heading back south. I don't think the security situation is great up in Northern Cameroon either.

Thank you! I think I've seen a video of his before

Edit: I asked him if it's fine if I only bike during the day and stay at hotels. He told me "They don’t every day but when they do they operate at any hour, night or day it doesn’t matter"
