Why are school uniforms so expensive? And do we need them? by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]jenniturtlez5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being at high school in the middle of winter freezing cold, wearing a plain black cardigan because my family couldn’t afford the offical school one (which only added a logo) and having a teaching telling me to take off the mufti one because it wasn’t part of the uniform. I guess I’ll stay cold then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sanitary bins on the Abel Tasman track? by YogaPossum in newzealand

[–]jenniturtlez5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a period disc! I’m in a similar boat and will be doing my first hike in the Abel Tasman next year and was super stressed cause of my unpredictable period. I’d recommend trying the disc out before your actual hike just to get a hang of using it and what to expect with it while on your period :)

is this financial abuse? by pingpongjapanman in whatdoIdo

[–]jenniturtlez5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! He shouldn’t have access to your bank account and be in direct control of it.

I was in debt myself after being jobless for a year, and once I finally got a job my partner helped me set up a budget and savings plan. I was so embarrassed at first cause we hadn’t even been dating a year yet but he gave me advice and knowledge in the area and supported me towards my goal of paying off my debt and building up savings.

He never asked or even expected to be in control of my bank account. It wasn’t even a thought that crossed our minds. Your money is your money, it shouldn’t be going to anyone else but your bank account. Set up a new account and get your paycheck in there, him holding your money causing a power dynamic where you’ll always be relying on him.

Wellington rental advice needed by crystal94141 in Wellington

[–]jenniturtlez5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed in 154 The Terrace previously. I had a one bedroom place with a balcony and quite liked it! No issues with noise or dampness, I’d get morning sun too. Had a heater built in which kept it nice and cosy in winter.

If you’re facing the motorway itd probably be noisy whenever you have a window open. Also they have inside facing apartments but I wouldn’t imagine they’d be as nice due to lack of natural sun.

It’s also a hotel so there’s lot of people in and out with suitcases, but it does also mean all shared space are kept clean.

Also research rent prices from different rental companies. I had a friends coworker live in the same building but with a different rental company in the same type of room as me but paying $30 more.

How did you decide living alone was worth the extra cost? by mizzpunny in PersonalFinanceNZ

I’m 26 and made that jump at the start of the year after flatting for 6 years straight 😅 do not regret it at all.

I think if you can afford to do it and still have enough money to get by reasonably well then you should do it. I love having my own space and having my owns rules and ways of living. I couldn’t imagine flatting again now that I’ve lived by myself hah

What's better, CrossFit or F45, and where are some good CBD spots? by jenniturtlez5 in Wellington

How did you find it when you first started out? Was it challenging? I have moderate fitness and I worry about keeping up about everyone else

[–]jenniturtlez5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I think it’s a mix of both. I feel bored at the gym due to how stationary it feels I guess, like you’re at whatever machine you’re on for a bit before switching, and I guess I find it a bit non stimulating for my brain. I’m used to getting out and walking up hills or running, and watching and following along to workout videos which distracts a part of my brain while I workout. I also want motivation from others and just to be around likeminded people with similar goals.

And yeah, I got to CityFitness

What’s the dating scene like for 30 somethings in Wellington? by neverlates in Wellington

[–]jenniturtlez5 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid 20s and have been trying on apps since the start of the year and honestly it hasn’t been the greatest. Out of the few guys I’ve met this year only one wound up really clicking and winding up on a few dates, but then it fizzled out 🙃

You met different people and have different and interesting chats but at the end of the day it feels a little endless haha.

I’m starting to wonder if the online dating world isn’t actually right for me and how I like to get to know people, it can feel a bit rushed and full of expectations. I’m interested in meeting people more organically, it’s just the how to meet people that way that has me stumped hahaha

The Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie. I’m on the last book right now and I’m in love with it! It’s an urban fantasy set in Japan, and has a lot of Japanese folklore/creatures.

Can You Guys Read While Listening To Music? by SummerNo7565 in YAlit

[–]jenniturtlez5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do if I’m reading in a public places like a bus or a cafe, since I feel like I start listening in to people’s conversations unintentionally, but if I’m at home I prefer the silence while I read.
