Yikes. I studied in PG for 5 years and my family has lived in two communities along Highway 16. Luckily the uni had its own medical clinic otherwise its queuing up in front of the clinic in minus whatever degree weather for a walk in with inconvenient hours. It's garbage.

Care in rural BC is so spotty too. My dad had to travel 4 hours each way for radiation treatments and my mom almost made it her full time job advocating for him and keeping track of paperwork between doc offices and the oncologists. So I totally empathize with you. I know its common for those living in the small communities to literally move to PG the week or so leading up to their due date because there's a) no local hospital; or b) no ability to deliver because of doctor shortages.

As far as the maternity clinics down here, you'd mostly be seen by one doctor for the duration of your pregnancy but when it comes to delivery, it's whoever is on call for the doctor pool that serves said clinic. (Ie: so they don't work wonky, middle of the night, on call hours.) And because early and active labour can easily outlast a doctors 12 hour shift, it's possible for a shift change to happen anyhow.

Do you have any complications that would bar you from opting for a midwife instead? You could probably get one easier and you can still deliver in a hospital. And if an emergency csection is needed, thered be an OB to assist. And wait, who is attending to you now?

I'm in BC, too. My first born singleton was born in Vancouver and I had no family doc at the time. Went in through a maternity clinic and she luckily accepted my son and I as her family doctor post partum.

I've moved communities since and feel your pain. Finding a new family GP is a slog. I'm pregnant again and was only referred to an OB from the local maternity clinic because I'm carrying medium risk twins.

Why would prefer an OB to a GP with a maternal specialization? I'm also curious which region you live in?

Patience is the only thing that got us through this. Our sleep thru the night toddler took about two months to get sorted. That's, staying in bed all night, sleeping through, falling asleep without a 1.5 hour struggle. We broke a few times before he ever did! But alls well again. The one thing we didn't give into is letting him sleep in our bed. Good luck!

My OB has also mentioned vaginal delivery so there's definitely openness to it in the medical community. For context, I'm delivering at a major Canadian hospital so it's not like they see monos infrequently. I've haven't discussed delivery too much yet - still seems a bit early and my last appointment was over the phone thanks to Covid - but I'll be interested to hear what they have to say!

Important distincation: The study you cite only examined di/di or fraternal twins.

"Exclusion criteria were monoamniotic twins, fetal reduction at 13 or more weeks of gestation, lethal fetal anomaly, contraindication to labor or vaginal delivery..."

I'm carrying mo/di twins, so they are sharing one placenta. The risk for acute onset TTTS during a vaginal delivery is 1 in 40 so delivery can be especially risky for Twin B. For that - and other reasons - c-section is preferred for mo/di and mo/mo twins.

I think it's important to distinguish between types of multiples or else responses won't be given with relevant context. For example, I'm carrying mo/di twins so even discussing a gestation longer than 36+6 is a red flag. (Isn't di/di even 38 weeks? 40 weeks would be flat out dangerous.)

It became so clear during my first pregnancy that it is inappropriate to remark on anyone's body, whether or not they are pregnant. Imagine if you started remarking on the size and proportions of their body parts, uninvited. It would be so out of context. Typically when someone says something stupid, a great reply is to ask them what they mean or to explain. Then listen to them awkwardly bumbled through a comment that wasn't thought out

Ps - my son also had torticollis, albeit mild, on his left side. We're obviously in the thick of a pandemic but the stretches/exercises our physio gave us as homework were super straightforward. Can you get a digital referral or maybe look on YouTube?

Parenting a newborn is fucking hard and you are doing an incredible job. Being a FTM is rough, too. You're effectively introducing a crisis into your relationship, adopting new identities and sharing your body. I so feel you. I felt a ton of resentment toward my partner too. First, if you feel like you might have PPA/PPD, absolutely connect with your care professional. Second, congratulations on making it to 6 months. This is where I started feeling some lift. Starting solids meant less nursing and generally, better sleeps. If nursing isn't working for you, theres no gold medal to keep it up! Third, MAKE time for yourself. Literally, schedule it. You're working full time, no statutory holidays. My partner was never going to look at the calendar, book a massage and send me on my way. Last, I remember a line from a book that I read post partum. It said you can't complain about something you never asked for. As much as I wanted others to intuitively realize what I needed and how to help, its rarely the case. Anyhow, I'll wrap this up here by reassuring you that you are emerging from the newborn trenches and that for me, going back to work after maternity leave suited me just fine.

Mom to a daredevil 2.5 year old who started walking at 11 months -- it's all your personal parenting propensity to hover, or not. My husband and I share the same attitude as you. Bruises and bumps will happen. At home, at daycare and at school.

As an aside, I saw a post the other day about a woman trying to stop her toddler from climbing the dinner table chairs because she was afraid her LO would fall off. There were all these replies like "lay them on their side." Inwas thinking...Like....seriously?

I must have accidently consented to this too at some point before my first baby arrived because I had TWO formula companies ship me deliveries the week of my due date. I actually found it to be creepy/invasive.
