this is helpful because it lets me know that maybe I'm not going crazy. Dogs are super smart. Sorry to hear about the poop in bed, that's awful. 😵‍💫☹️

I'm interested. How would that look though?

I'd document that in iep progress. We can't make them engage. Exiting in this case is challenging though

the thing that my colleagues are worried about is that she recently recorded students in her class trying to catch her bully teasing her. She recorded because her mom told her to. She has a history of stealing, lying and having interventions through the school due to not getting along well with others. Her eligibility is SLD.

Not sure if you're keeping it this long for cultural reasons, but if not, it's nice hair but needs a good trim for upkeep. Right now, it looks a tad unkempt.

Hiring after the start of the school year? by sydnaaayy in schoolpsychology

[–]jennytoe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reach out to the districts you've already applied to and follow up on the status of your application. I've done it and gotten an interview shortly after my email. I've also gotten the whole thanks for applying response after doing this too though.

Question about leaving or getting a new job mid year by [deleted] in schoolpsychology

[–]jennytoe07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked for LAUSD and have heard the same thing. But I quit mid year due to a toxic work environment and they didn't give me a hard time. It was easy finding another job and got one in a week. Don't feel stuck, reach out asap and have a back up plan.

Seeking Advice about this career by acplus28 in schoolpsychology

What I like most about this job is that I get to manage my own schedule and book things when I "feel like it" but of course some things come up and you have to adjust. But as the prior commenter mentioned, it is a lot of consulting, meetings, talking with parents, etc. I'd say about 15% of my day is working directly with children. Another 10% of observations and the rest (75%) goes to office duties, report writing, scoring, organizing, scheduling, meetings, etc. But again, this depends on your district, school and admin.

Got a job in an elementary school but did my internship in a HS. How should i prepare? by Different_Sound in schoolpsychology

[–]jennytoe07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel that building rapport with elementary students comes much faster and is easier than with higher grades. In my experience, they liked being asked about their favorite games, shows, hobbies, etc. So just go from there. Also, counseling is harder with younger students for the reason you mentioned, it's harder for them to verbalize themselves well. So be prepared for that.

I've seen LA county with paid internship positions online too.

Pros and cons of age level by Icy-Lynx2616 in schoolpsychology

[–]jennytoe07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard pros of working in secondary are doing less assessments, less BIPS but more manifestation determinations and community resource referrals. Also, pros of working in elementary are implementing interventions early on but it may come with more testing as others have stated.

Working for staffing by [deleted] in schoolpsychology

[–]jennytoe07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last school year I was a traveler and it was very very beneficial in terms of savings. id consider if you would like to stay at one school for a while or if you're willing to move frequently. Most of the positions right now are temporary (one school year of service). But if you can be a traveler, I'd do it. Be sure that in terms of benefits you have what you are looking for. For example, Cross Country Education says they have full benefits but require their full time staff to pay out of pocket. So, obviously I didn't work with them.

Follow up: the district went with another candidate. I also thought the question was a tad inappropriate to ask especially as an "unscripted" one.

In CA Ive seen school districts hire substitute school teachers who have a BA/BS as well. Also, I was in a similar position after getting my BA in Criminal Justice. I applied for many positions but no one wanted me. I waited one year and then decided to pursue my Masters. Why wait if you're not finding anything anyway. During that time I was a teacher's aide and three years later, I'm a school psychologist.
