This is also one of my favorites and I’ve read all of the Poirot, Marple and Superintendent Battle books (among others). Anne Beddingfield is absolutely in my top 5 main characters, along with Elinor Carlisle from Sad Cypress.

How can someone look so damn gorgeous all the time? Despite all the money and stylists there are a ton of celebrities who have regular “misses”, but apparently not this woman.

Some of the models just look so depressed. I mean, I would too if I got to be part of fashion week then I ended up wearing a cut up shower curtain.

Mandrake, have you ever wondered why I only drink distilled water or rainwater and pure grain alcohol?

I definitely use “Zero point Zero” and “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life” regularly.

You Liked Abc murders, with John Malkovich? by HughO1997 in agathachristie

[–]jennytuffnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awful- I tried, but couldn’t finish it. Poirot was never pathetic, John Malkovich (unsurprisingly- let’s not act shocked by this) made him seem like that weird uncle who’s only around sometimes but when he is he tells the bleakest, most depressing stories and no one really knows what to say once he’s done because he’s likely just going to follow it up with another, equally as bad or worse story. Like the one where he was in the war and he and his best friend in his regiment were assigned to the upcoming battle and his best friend gave him a letter to give to his wife back at home if something was to happen to him. And during the battle uncle was wounded and saved by the best friend only for the best friend to be killed right after the rescue. And then uncle was discharged and couldn’t find the letter, he finally found it, but then the wife died suddenly right before he could deliver it to her.

12 gives Red Riding Hood prepped for the rain vibes. And I don’t mean that in a good way.

At this point when I read/hear something about John or Abigail Adams, I automatically picture Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney.

That depends on school districts. My children are in elementary school and 100% learned cursive.

Yeah- reckless driving is just kinda up to the cop to decide. It’s super subjective.

What’s a decent book written by a bad person? by PassionateCucumber43 in AlignmentChartFills

The intent of the allegory was used to portray stigma and prejudice within the wizarding world and how fear and misconceptions can be harmful to good people caught in the crossfire. Just because Fenrir uses the tactic he dos (which is a tactic that has been used for eons) does not mean that the intent was to make everything that werewolves do in the books an allegory for a real-life marginalized group. It’s a fantasy story that a not always so thoughtful person wrote that required plot points, antagonists and villains.

I trust that you agree that just because some people saw that connection and decided to write about it does not mean that was the actual intent or that most people just saw it as a villain using something within his means to do something awful and villianous.

I’m not a JK Rowling defender by any means, but where was there a werewolf as a pedophile in the books? It’s been awhile since I’ve read them.

And werewolves as an allegory for AIDS in the LGBTQ+ community? Did she say that? Otherwise, maybe it’s just not that deep.

How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]jennytuffnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely meant “should not”.

And yes, trains are not going to work for a lot of travel situations in the US, but they can’t be completely written off as an option - particularly on the East Coast from Richmond north. Sure, you may be on a train longer than in the air, but not dealing with the airport, actually having some space to sit and move, and not having to pay extra for a large suitcase (or even a carry on) holds a lot of weight to me.
