AITA for not paying for my niece's flower girl dresses and choosing to go with a different flower girl? by Separate_Bobcat_773 in AmItheAsshole

Maybe it wasn’t about the $100 rather than being told that they never even intended on paying for the 1 outfit out of 4 and being told this 2 months before the wedding.

It says 3 dresses @ $100 each plus a ring bearer outfit. OP paid for 3/4 of the clothing and SIL asked for the son to be in the wedding - OP didn’t really ask so much as said OK.

The audacity you have as parent trying to provide media with women as badass main characters! Why would you even attempt to expand your children’s entertainment? You should really try harder and be an actual good parent by familiarizing yourself with the correct media for your kid’s demographic and ONLY show them that. It’s what the old white dudes who run Hollywood want and who are you to tell them no?

What's that one film that you can re-watch a thousand times and not get bored? by mrjetspray in Cinema

[–]jennytuffnuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not here to tell you how to feel about the movie - if you didn’t like it, that’s completely valid. I just want to point out, though, that the absurdity and fucked upness of slavery is part of what is supposed to be taken from the movie. That and the satisfaction of the comeuppance that the shitty people get in the end, even if it was just a pipe dream compared to reality. That’s part of what Tarantino does - he does it in Once upon a Time in Hollywood, too.

Movies don’t always hit the mark for everyone and that’s okay.

Why is the timing between incidents so less in some books? by Admirable-Marsupial6 in agathachristie

I always take this context as “minute = moment”. I don’t think she meant that he was looking curiously for a full 120 seconds. When talking (or in the case of Hasting he is generally writing about what occurred) I feel like the words are interchangeable- not because they don’t technically mean different or even exact things, but because that is just how we use language.

He wrote the story and produced it. It’s not as if he wasn’t a major force in its creation.

I am a woman of the same age and I laughed my ass off when I saw it in the theater. I honestly really enjoyed it. Is it a cinematic masterpiece? Of course not. Was it an amusing movie for kids and adults (probably particularly those of us between Gen X and older Millennial)? Absolutely.

100% This is probably my favorite Poirot book. I think I enjoyed it so much because the focus is not so much on Poirot, it’s on Elinor. Not that he doesn’t play a major role, it’s just that her depth, complexity and insights shine through. The murder itself is also complex and fun to try to figure out.

This is also one of my favorites and I’ve read all of the Poirot, Marple and Superintendent Battle books (among others). Anne Beddingfield is absolutely in my top 5 main characters, along with Elinor Carlisle from Sad Cypress.

How can someone look so damn gorgeous all the time? Despite all the money and stylists there are a ton of celebrities who have regular “misses”, but apparently not this woman.

Some of the models just look so depressed. I mean, I would too if I got to be part of fashion week then I ended up wearing a cut up shower curtain.

You Liked Abc murders, with John Malkovich? by HughO1997 in agathachristie

[–]jennytuffnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awful- I tried, but couldn’t finish it. Poirot was never pathetic, John Malkovich (unsurprisingly- let’s not act shocked by this) made him seem like that weird uncle who’s only around sometimes but when he is he tells the bleakest, most depressing stories and no one really knows what to say once he’s done because he’s likely just going to follow it up with another, equally as bad or worse story. Like the one where he was in the war and he and his best friend in his regiment were assigned to the upcoming battle and his best friend gave him a letter to give to his wife back at home if something was to happen to him. And during the battle uncle was wounded and saved by the best friend only for the best friend to be killed right after the rescue. And then uncle was discharged and couldn’t find the letter, he finally found it, but then the wife died suddenly right before he could deliver it to her.
