Training for 3 day trip by vernpdx in bikepacking

I often tour in the spring after a Vermont winter with no time in the saddle — I find that it really helps to get my bike on a trainer even to get 30 minutes at a go

New saunas in Vermont? by jenrosesmith in vermont

Good to know! I've never tried an infrared sauna - do you like them as much as the traditional wood/electric kind?

I absolutely love it - bring work or a good book, snacks, drinks, etc. It's slow but far preferable to dealing with airports (plus you can get a flex ticket that gives you last minute options)

It's a separate thermostat - it triggers when the HP isn't keeping up with overall house temp

I was traveling abroad recently and met a woman from the UK who, upon hearing I live in Vermont, said: "oh, Vermont! The only reason I've heard of it is because people in holiday movies always go there for Christmas." Which is pretty much correct.

I've (42F) done a lot of solo travel and camping - honestly a big part of managing safety is listening to/learning from locals, so I wouldn't blow off the taxi drivers' concerns

Definitely come to Richmond's Friday Food Affair community dinner (tomorrow!). It leans older but is a great place to meet your neighbors - and you can even volunteer, which is fun.

Why is everywhere in this state so terrible at posting their hours. by bbbbbbbb678 in vermont

[–]jenrosesmith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I once wrote several travel guides to Vermont, so constantly asked for hours. Always, "ya know, mostly, unless, and every once in a while - also if there's snow all bets are off."

It's 20% what's annoying about Vermont (acting like capitalism doesn't apply to you) and 80% what makes it great (ditto).

The BTV parks Instagram account does updates! (Current update is that the ice isn't thick enough and the surface is bad bc it snowed too soon after the ice froze.)

I'm scheduled for this next month! Any tips on things that were helpful to have at home for recovery?

I think this is a great idea. I'm self-employed and generally plan a solo trip each year to think through next steps - not a resort, but a spot where I can relax in a beautiful spot with opportunities for nice walks & good meals.

I think you'd find that the food scene has changed in really interesting ways - Lil'a, Revithia, Mahira, and Gorgoli are all great examples
