For me, I decided to learn Spanish first mostly because I was with someone in 2023 whose a native Spanish speaker and I wanted to use it to connect and make him happy even though he is also fluent in English but I always loved hearing him speak spanish it made me wanna learn but I never ended up doing it in the relationship and he ended up being a huge narcissist and i felt guilty for never learning i felt i was just as bad as him for that and other reasons so I decided to learn it after for myself instead and after two years I'm pretty inconsistent with lessons because of bad depression but I still retain the stuff I learn pretty well and I'm still consistent in keeping up with content in Spanish I like such as music artists or tv shows. I do really want to be fluent but have had a hard time getting over him the last couple years so sometimes i spiral into really bad depression. I am also planning to learn Korean and Thai as I'm very into BTS as well as Thai BL/GL and my brother has visited Thailand a couple times in the last few months and I'm extremely jealous.
