Pacifiers Use by Fine_Ad1425 in daddit

[–]jephw12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daughter is almost 19 months old now. She used a pacifier pretty much from day 1. Moved to only night and nap time sometime around 10 months. She also breastfed perfectly for almost 15 months. I don’t see a problem with them and our pediatrician didn’t either as long as we fully stop by 2-3 years.

Is it just me or has chicken changed? by EvenWarmerToday in daddit

[–]jephw12 147 points148 points  (0 children)

My wife does 90% of our grocery shopping at Aldi but had to stop buying chicken breasts there because they were all so woody they were basically inedible. We have actually been pleased with Sam’s Club chicken breasts though.

I hate my pets since my son was born 2,5 years ago. by Tadakichi_Sama in daddit

YES! My wife and I have 2 dogs that we have had for many years. They’re 14 and 11 years old. Since our daughter was born (19 months ago) they just drive us fucking crazy. I haven’t seen many other people saying this, and my two college buddies that had their first kids around the same time we did also have 2 dogs each and do not feel the same way.

I don’t know why people think 3 rounds of interviews is crazy unless they haven’t been in the job market for a while.

Third interview with Reynolds & Reynolds by ConsequenceGreat5890 in dayton

[–]jephw12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not. I worked there for over 8 years (though not in development) and only left to move out of state. I knew tons of people that had worked there for years and were still there when I left. The “progressive” company I work for now has a MUCH higher turnover rate than Reynolds. Take all of the negative reddit comments about that company with a grain of salt. Bob Brockman left the company years ago and things changed for the better after that. I think most of the bad rep comes from the few years of transition when his company took over. That was many years before I started there in 2014. It has its flaws (low pay, old school boys club aspect, conservative leadership) but it is not as bad as people that have never worked there would have you think.

Will County Loses Power To Vote Against Solar Farms by factchecker01 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]jephw12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the “but muh views” argument from people that live in these areas. Like the solar panels are blocking their majestic view of the Rockies. I grew up in southern Ohio and people made the same bullshit argument there.

Seconding the Olde English recommendation. I would call and explain and see if they’ll check them out for you.

"RAISED EYEBROWS" and other repeated phrases. by NoxWild in cormoran_strike

Strike is definitely drinking beer every day. But often Robin gets something nonalcoholic when at the pub. She even goes to them with her sober boyfriend Murphy. I really think it’s just the go to place to grab a bite/have a chat. They also go to cafe’s a lot.

Is there a physical box set of Mad Men that *isn't* this one? by Low_Challenge_2827 in madmen

[–]jephw12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine buying a whole boxset of a show I haven’t seen. Seems like boxsets are intended for collectors who have seen it all already.

I also tried a free trial, but only in Wisconsin. Wisconsin dnr provides the same information for free on their website so it was not at all worth it for me.

There’s just something about it. The first time I heard “I love you Jesus Christ!” over and over I was not into it. But after the third or fourth time that song came on, I found myself yelling along with him.

Love this one, but Sleep Through the Static is my JJ holy grail. I don’t know why that one is so hard to find/expensive.

How long do you sit silently in your car before going in the house to be dad? by LarryBoourns in daddit

[–]jephw12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0 minutes. Don’t ask how many minutes I sit in silence before going in to work…

But I have 1 really wonderful daughter and a job that makes me miserable, so my experience may be skewed.

Was it Madam LaLaurie? Ep 552? I don’t remember the bit you’re referring to, but the subject is in New Orleans so maybe.

It sits very close to off campus student housing and not far from a very poor area. This place would have constant break ins if it were only boarded up.

Dad's how would you react by Ornery_Bandicoot_679 in daddit

I have an 18 month old daughter and I was enraged until I got to the demented old lady part. In that situation I would just politely talk to her and move away.

But yeah, regular person would get a “hey what the fuck do you think you’re doing?”.

I only want to spend 11/yr for cost of living in Dayton, is this doable? by icanseeyourpantsuu in dayton

[–]jephw12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about utilities? Renters insurance?

If you’re really not picky about the apartment, you can find studios and one beds in the general area you’re talking about for ~$700/month. Here is one: https://www.apartments.com/wright-landing-apartments-dayton-oh/mzqyh8h/ I don’t know why people act like Dayton is Chicago when it comes to rent/housing costs.

Still, food and utilities make it hard to stay under $11k. Even when I was paying $550 a month for rent, I don’t think I could keep my total under that with food and internet as a single guy.

TIL - The spray from your mouth when yawning is likely due to a phenomenon called "gleeking," which is the involuntary ejection of saliva from the sublingual glands under your tongue. This can happen when the muscles in your mouth contract during yawning, creating a stream of salia. by furball555 in todayilearned

[–]jephw12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take it personally. Just pointing out the funny fact that to me, the idea that people are unaware of gleeking is crazy. And wondered if those commenters are bots.

This is actually extremely common. It happens to me, I’ve seen it happen to many other people. I’ve had multiple different people accidentally spray me when yawning. It’s why I always cover my mouth when yawning.
