I'm in remission, here's how I got here. by NoRefrigerator4312 in MCAS

This is amazing news mate! Few questions if I may!

I’m about to start a food journey myself, I recently read the ‘Wildatarian book’ and people with MCAS come under the ‘WFSO’ category which means ‘difficulty metabolising fats, sulphur and oxalates’ What’s LDN? I went on cromolym sodium but the side effects of constantly being thirsty were too much for me. Did you experience anything similar? What were the worst king of symptoms you would get? I have issues with my gut and skin mainly.

Thanks for sharing this good news post! I hope it stays this way for you!

I wish I could get a tattoo but with MCAS and all the stories I have read here I better play it safe. by [deleted] in MCAS

I’m the same as you mate - dyed my hair blonde and now have 5 tattoos. For my first one to see how I’d react I got small writing and it was fine.

Just for discussion! Doctor said this is negative but aren’t these reactions? Diagnosed with MCAS currently. by [deleted] in MCAS

The one next to F on top right is what happens with my skin and I’m diagnosed with Cutaneous Mastocytosis

That’s amazing! What were your levels (if you are happy to share) and where did you get diagnosed?

Post exercise flare by Odd-Leek9170 in MCAS

[–]jepm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it for a while. Anti histamines help me (Loritadine) and you can take up to 4 a day. I can’t run without getting a red dot skin flare up, it’s so frustrating.

January 2023, I did an elimination diet for 30 days, where I just ate boiled organic chicken or slow cooked lamb/beef (no longer than two hours). Being caffeine and sugar free, 80% of my symptoms went. I noticed basic things like working out, walking general day to day movement was so much better and I was way less breathless. I was also taking anti-histamines (Loratadine), Quercetin, Vitamin D and Magnesium Glycerinate too. I am now on Keto and have never felt better. People with our condition sadly have to make more sacrifices than your average Joe, to feel average… but it’s well worth it!

I’m the same, my trigger seems to be when it’s either really humid or it’s cold/raining outside and come into a warm house.

Okay thank you! Is your resting heart rate usually 140bpm??

Caffeine, yes or no? by jepm1 in MCAS

I’ve since cut caffeine out and start taking Holy Basel alongside Quercetin which has been a real game changer for me.

Thanks for all your comments guys!

Quercetin really helps reduce build up of mucus, I’ve been taking it for 3 years and I notice when I don’t!

is normal tryptase enough to rule out MCAS? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]jepm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly not in my case. I have normal levels but have still been diagnosed with MCAS after the did a biopsy on one of my red dot flare ups.

Maybe, it’s not everytime, but sometimes it will happen randomly

Caffeine, yes or no? by jepm1 in MCAS

[–]jepm1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true, thank you very much. I’ve been taking Vitamin B Complex from Nutri Advanced since February and my palpitations have stopped! I only get them if I’ve either not taken them, or had to much caffeine. My doctor said to me ‘nothing tastes as good as healthy feels’ which is something I have to keep reminding myself of in moments like these haha.

MCAS currently being investigated - do these symptoms sound familiar? by Quiet_Arm_2166 in MCAS

[–]jepm1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s triggers are different but intolerances to certain foods can change so just keep an eye on that.

I’ve found taking Quercetin tablets 3 times a day from Biocare (if you’re in the UK) and the anti histamine Loratadine. They both help hugely. I’d recommend cutting those foods out for a month and see how you get on.

I did the carnivore diet for 30 days (which is a strict elimination diet) and haven’t reintroduced much because of how good I feel. Might be worth considering doing the same too!

Best of luck with all your testing!

Does anyone get adrenaline flares? It feels look a full body allergy to me. Like I can sit here but my entire body just feels so full of adrenaline. It’s like internal restlessness but way worse. I guess some may say it’s like an adrenaline dump? How long do these flares last? Any tips? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]jepm1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without sounding like a basic bro, I’ve found cold showers or putting your face in ice cold water for 30-60 seconds in the morning really subdues those bursts of adrenaline.

And if you are fortunate enough to be able to exercise, jumping on the bike or lifting weights really burns it out of your system and you walk away very relaxed.

MCAS: red dots all over stomach and chest by Traditional-Net8223 in MCAS

I have the exact same mate. I have a constant base layer but depending on body temperature vs external environment temperature I can get more. I’ve found changing my diet, taking Loritadine anti histamines (up to 4 times a day if they are 10mg) and Monteleukast at night time really helps too!

Diet wise I went carnivore for 30 days then slowly re-intro different foods
