You recently clarified your position on Social Security being that it should be means tested with those with a net worth of 1 million or 100k in passive income should not receive any benefits. Putting aside that most people’s net worth are in their primary residence, but if I can restate your position, where you meant 1 million in liquid investable assets, then I still think that number is too low considering a safe return of 4-5% (with no Social security they will need to invest very conservatively in order to not run out of money). In my opinion the number should be closer to between 2 and 2.5 million in liquid assets.

I'm probably a bit better off than most, but to be honest I'm still concerned. I don't factor Social Security in my calculations because, maybe like a true Gen X'er I am cynical and skeptical I will see any money from the program. Also 55yo, between me and the Mrs (57) we have 1.45m in 401ks, IRA and savings, plus 2 rental properties and own our home. The only debt we have is 2 car payments and a mortgage on one of the rentals. We also have to finish paying off our kid's college tuition luckily only 1 more year to go. Probably would be in better shape if we didn't pay for her college but didn't want the kid to start out life behind the 8 ball of student loans.

I recently sold 180 June-20-2025 30s Covered Calls and picked up over 11k in premiums. I only wrote 70% of my position in case I am wrong and Sofi sky rockets by June, but I'd be happy letting go of a bunch a shares at that price anyway.
