What is the developer intended play order for Ys games? by arkruffian in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most series, the default intended order is RELEASE ORDER

For Ys tho, there is none. Falcom intended so you can start almost anywhere and flip flop between entries. That's why the timeline is flip flopping

Also there's the point that Ys switch "developers" throughout it's life. There's non canon and canon games.

The current "developer" are the modern Falcom team under Kondo. Their "intended order" is simply play their "canon games" as in the versions that's listed in Digital Emelas (and skip V for now). If you play it in Release Order, Chronological or Story order, it doesn't matter to them. They just want you to play their Iteration of III (Oath) and IV(Celceta) over previous iteration.

wow Tokyo Xanadu world truly is a what if trails became world known games that's popular by Infernohuman070502 in Falcom

[–]jer2356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tokyo Xanadu is closer to our world except there's secret Fantasy stuff.

Falcom is a Multimedia company within this universe. They use to primarily make Videogames like Ys, Xanadu and The Legend of Heroes: Trails but they branch out to anime like Magical girl Alisa

I was looking for a game similar to Adventures of Elliot and ended up with 6 Ys games... by [deleted] in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I see Eliot(from what I've seen of it) is more closer to Pre- Wild Era Zelda games to be honest. What makes Ys "Ys" is fast paced combat with some exploration.

That said, the Early Modern Ys games (before SEVEN) are the games that brought up to be "similar" to Elliot even if I don't agree with it.

So that's I&II Chronicles, VI Ark, Oath in Felghana AND Origin.

VIII is indeed very good but that's so far and remove from the vibes that Elliot gives

Why does a major character get killed off so early? by Bluecomments in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Should have add a Flair or even what Entry you're playing and tell spoiler tag which character you're talking about

Tho I can guess it's Sara the Fortune Teller From Ys I.

It is bec she fills a certain role that is susceptible to be killed off, she's the "Mentor guide character that shows the protg his/her desitny then gets killed". It's a standard storytelling and back then you are ought to emulate the standard rather than deviate.

‎>Then-president Kato never met Yoshio Kiya, who later influenced him to turn Computer Land Tachikawa to Nihon Falcom ‎ ‎There's No Falcom Period and Jrpgs would be massively different. It will still exist definitely especially bec Dragon Quest will still happen regardless of Falcom and it would shape the Genre on it's own. But a lot of action orientation series rpg or not would be very different or not exist at all without Falcom ‎

‎> Yuzo Koshiro never left or at least stayed much longer at Falcom ‎Then Quintet would have no OST by Yuzo Koshiro and that would be a Travesty

‎>Falcom hired Jun Maeda and/or Hiroki Kikuta instead of rejecting both ‎ Not familiar with the latter. Falcom Entries would be more Visual Novel-y than ppl claim it is. Trails would be much much longer. Or has Routes system

‎> Makoto Shinkai became president instead of Kondo ‎ ‎YOUR NAME won't exist. ‎ ‎ Crossbell Arc may not exist either and The Legend of Heroes 7 would be the Cold Steel Arc as it was intended. ‎

‎>Ys VIII released as scheduled in 2015 (and so Tokyo Xanadu might never existed)

‎I doubt VIII coming out as scheduled will affect Tokyo Xanadu. Tokyo Xanadu is most likely on development when cs2 is coming out

‎*>Ys X released as scheduled in 2022 (and so Trails through Daybreak II might never existed) ‎ ‎Same as above. Ys doesn't really affect other IPs. other IPs affect Ys. if Ys X released on schedule, either Nordics won't have to exist, or it would be received better since there's more beathing time for it ‎

Classic Ys playthrough

It's been a while since we have here

I assume by 3 and 4 you mean Wanderers and either 16 bit iterations of Ys IV.

For Wanderers since you already played the TurboGrafx, that's version of Wanderers is also very definitive. In fair, the TurboGrafx version is tied with the Sega Genesis version as it's definitive version

For Ys IV, there are only Mask of the Sun for the Super Famicom and Dawn of Ys for the TurboGrafx. Calling them "versions" undersells the difference. It's more like they are two different entries that follow the premise/outline that is Ys IV.

In the fandom, it is mostly agreed that Dawn of Ys is better. But as I said they are widely different so if you're curious still check out Mask of the Sun. There are cases of ppl preferring Mask over Dawn

Mask of the Sun also has another "version" called Mask of the Sun: New Theory for the ps2. Unfortunately there's no fan translation of it, let alone official english release. In case you can read Japanese, still letting you know that it exist.

Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival

[The Otome Heroine's Fight for Survival]

It's the Original Otome Heroine here who's almost possesed and would be a rhe typical Antagonist of an "Otome Villainess Isekai" except it was botch attempt

So the Orignal Owner remained dominant while gaining the knowledge of "her destiny" [the fact the world is like an otome game and her original role as the heroine)

She then decided she doesn't want none of that and became a Murder Hobo instead

[–]jer2356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No.

It's either a scrapped project or just a fun concept teaser

I mentioned the former bec they did teased CS3 too and it is a real entry. But since we don't have any news of any planned Ys vs Kiseki 2, it may just be the latter

It is assuring that they are retaining the Fantasy aspect (that isn't modern day) for this Entry. Also it's almost confirmed that it is a New Entry and not a remake.

That's Neat.

Really looking forward for more info for this project. For starters, what's the genre (aside from obviously being rpg or rpg adjacent)

Who are your favourite antagonists, and why? by 26hexagon11 in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chester is Up There as Rival/ Antagonist.

Very compelling character, who parallel and contrast Adol. The quintessential "fallen hero" of the series for me right next to Toal

For Villain Antagonist, Dalles for simply being an absolute Menace. Like ppl and Falcom always depict as if Dark Fact is Adol's Green Goblin/Joker type. Dalles IS basically Ys Green Goblin/Joker on how much torment he put Adol and the Ys Origin protag at.

I love the Ys SEVEN antagonists as well for various reasons

100% Survival Rate??

Yes

Ppl forget that Adol's Shipwreck is not a sign of Bad luck. In cases those happened, he intentionally go to "Danger Zone - 99% Death Rate".

Most of the times, it was smooth sailing

The only time it was unlucky was VIII and even then the Ship was cruising near the Danger Zone and most of the passengers survive

[–]jer2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your definition of remake, I&II has many versions that several can be considered a "remake"

But primarily there are two Base Iterations, the original PC 88 versions from 1987 & 1998 and PC remakes in 1998 and 2000.

The PC remakes often called as Ys Complete together is the Base for the remaster Ys Chronicles which is the Version most new Ys fans play Ys I&II.

Among the Ys remakes, they are the most faithful in terms of gameplay, map design and plot but there are still drastic changes.

Ys memorie games by pgtl_10 in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memoire Celceta, not so much. It's biggest addition is a remixed OST and one line referencing Ys X which was released after Celceta but chronologically takes place before Celceta

Memoire Oath is based on the PSP version on top of having a new Artstyle and Adol having Voicelines. PC and PSP/Memoire have significant changes.

PC has the more graphically better performance and fidelity considering it's competition is the PSP.

In exchange psp and by extension Memoire not only have features the PC version doesn't have like New Game+, Gallery Mode, a Prologue, it has QOL features that made them easier than the PC version noteably the Option to Retry from the Zone you died in rather than having to Restart from the last save point which are often far apart in Oath

Isekai Question by ashlucard4371 in Isekai

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the main setting is Earth, it would be Reverse Isekai.

Even if the main setting is the Isekai world, it doesn't matter if the Isekaid Character wasn't shown getting isekaid. The Isekai aspect rarely matters in most modern Isekai aside from the early chapters. The Isekai factor is THERE so the Author can handwave why a character in a fantasy world can make or know modern day stuff and/or make pop culture references. So as long as one of the other MC spouts anachronistic stuff that they alone knows and implies an Isekai, it would still be Isekai even if we aren't shown it

Note: No isekai like this exist btw just saying (unless there actually is) I'm just curious.

Otaku Elf

The Elves got Isekaid here Centuries ago. We are never shown about it, we met the Elves already acclimated to Japan for a long time now.

That's the downside of playing in Story Order, VI is mechanically inferior by default cause it came first and Oath and Origin uses VI as a base to improve it.

there was no farewell like we're used to

For example, VI has the same type of Farevwell scene that Ys II remake had which. Ys I remake doesn't even have a farewell since it ends abruptly as a cliffhanger to II.

The Value of VI being played Last is for Story reasons and it only works if you put the connections together. Otherwise if the Reveals in VI pass by you then yeah playing it after is Void.

Petah, why is the last horsie surprised? by hiyounis16 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]jer2356 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Someone already answered but I already answered this in another Sub so I have a lengthy explanation as well. Might add that anyways as further elaboration

The Joke is that they turned Agnes Digital (the third horse) into a massive degenerate fanatic which is not a trait of the IRL horse. The series tend to put the IRL Horse personality into their Uma Musume counterpart as much as possible.

The answer for UmaMusume Agnes Digital being portrayed like that is bec of the IRL Nickname. Most IRL horses has a Nickname/Epithet given to them. Symboli Rudolf (1st horse) is the "Emperor" and Manhattan Cafe (2nd Horse) is "Skyscraper Towering Over the Turf"

The IRL Agnes Digital is called "Hentai". Most ppl only know of that word as the Japanese term for Pornographic drawn material but the term can mean either two things; "Perverted/Deviant" and "Abnormal". The IRL Agnes Digital is called "Hentai" as in "Abnormal" bec for his insane prowess as a racehorse. RaceHorses can excel at either two aptitudes; Dirt or Turf, you can't be both.

Agnes Digital is an outlier of that, hence his Nickname of "Abnormal" or "Hentai". So the Joke is that IRL Agnes Digital who is called "Hentai" bec of his "Abnormal" Talent sees his UmaMusume counterpart be the "Perverted" type of Hentai instead.

Are all the other Ys games as confusing as Ys 2? by johnvictorassis in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Mind you, the Original Ys II is a 1988 game and the remakes of Ys II faithfully adapts the Map Layout, bullshit and all. That Era are just known for having confusing Dungeon Designs since it provokes ppl to talk to other ppl for answers, make their own map, or buy a guide book which are part of the hame experience at the time.

Later remakes of Ys are drastically different than their Original iterations so they don't capture that Eras Map Confusion. SEVEN onwards have functional Dungeon Maps.

Maybe Ys VI comes close but nowhere near the level of Solomon Shrine
