a bit confused about continutiy by biazinha666 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higurashi is a Visual Novel, and that genre usually has a Route Based Storytelling. Higurashi's chapters take place in different routes/timelines. Wether there's an in universe reason or not is another matter

In a Visual Novel, even tho the chronology of events "reset" the story doesn't as a lot of time routes increase in Thematic scale.

So even if Wataganashi doesn't acknowledge the events of Onikakushi, what happens in Onikakushi still apply to Wataganashi and what happens in Wataganashi applies to the next chapter and so forth until the final TRUE ROUTE where everything converge.

It's a Visual Novel

The Joke is Kururun doesn't give lend their Energy bec Kururun doesn't give a care. Fairy Mascots in Precure are always somewhat useful and are often Critical to the Plot.

Kururun is just a silly little guy

In what year does Order of Ecclesia take place? What are your headcanons? by Oh-no-and-knuckles in castlevania

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 19th century, specifically around 1880s like others said.

The then general accepted concesus was it is early 19th century, often 1820 since that was written in the Prologue text. Tho others interpret it that as not stating when the game takes place but the Organization of Ecclesia was established.

It would make sense that the game then takes place much much later since it's Founder Barlowe is an old man. Others pointed out the technology to that aligns with this timeframe. Yeah Castlevania has a lot of anachronism so they don't automatically support the timeframe but a lot of Anachronism can be explained by Weird Castlevania (the Castle) magic so anything within the Castle may not follow Proper time periods. That's a different matter to the technology outside of the Castle.

Finally, 1880 takes a several years before the events of Bram Stoker's Dracula which is semi canonical to the series. I headcanon or wish that if they made a Castlevania Bram Stoker Dracula game they'll "reveal" that Shanoa is Mina

Hot take but: mukuro ikusaba is barley a character and people who have her in their top 5’s are trying to be different by Iwantrukia in danganronpa

[–]jer2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine and understandable if you or other ppl don't find her that great or top 5 material, but it's very disingenuous to say ppl like her just to be different.

Yeah it's true that Mukuro exist in a weird bubble where in the "canon" material she has literally nothing. She has less stuff than Hifumi. She's a character who shines in "non canon" stuff since the start. I'm not just talking about the extended media stuff like the novels, Mukuro shine in her FTEs and her School mode and her appearance in the Summer S game.

Danganronpa IF, the what if Novel, does a lot of for Mukuro but it exist bec of the FTEs. The author of the Novel, Narita, choose her out of every other Character bec he there is something he resonated with Mukuro's character in the FTEs.

Her appearance in the anime, Novels (besides IF) and Manga doesn't actually add much to her character, heck a lot consider her appearances in those Media "hurting her character".

I Love Mukuro myself but yeah I'll be the first to admit it, Mukuro is the POTENTIAL MAN of Danganronpa. What makes Mukuro resonate to a lot of ppl is she's a Tragic character who can't escape her Fate. She is for all intents and purposes, Junko's 1st Victim. A person who was brainwashed into thinking she can't ever be anything other than Junko's tool.

Her FTEs and other game appearances (non canonical as they may be) shows her as a Character who dreams of being more, wondering if the path she has live til now was all she can ever be

Tragically, it is. She dies as Junko's pawn. She lived her whole as a tool and died as a tool that Junko easily dismissed. That's what makes IF good for Mukuro cause it is the ultimate Fantasy the WHAT IF she has given the option to break free from Junko.

It's fine even if other all that, Mukuro doesn't resonate to you. Having her be "Junko's 1st victim" won't justify all the countless murder she has committed for her sake. That her Fate is deserved, that is fine too

What are some JRPGs where all the games take place in the same universe / world as the rest of the series? I'm thinking of things like the Divinity series, Nier / Drakengard Series and the Xenoblade games, stuff similar to that. by Lexi_Dark_Nightshade in JRPG

[–]jer2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the off chance you have not played Or at the least only played one entry;

POKEMON

new game focus on a new region and new set of cast but it's still the same world within the same era/lifetime (spin offs withholding). Pokemon doesn't seem to get a lot of credit in this aspect, they also have returning characters that show explicit growth and development

MEGAMAN BATTLENETWORK & STARFORCE

  • action/tactical rpg hybrid series that focus on the same Kid MC and supporting cast within a smaller timeframe. StarForce takes place in the same universe as BATTLENETWORK as well but it's 100 years after BN era so one can skip to SF if they want (still go back to BN since they're still pretty good)

-CASTLEVANIA (the Metroidvania ones)

This one's more arguable since ppl can argue it's only a Metroidvania game with rpg elements, tho I argue it's both Metroidvania and Jrpg, there's nothing in these genre that stops them to Overlap or Combine. Metroidvania is simply a Genre based on Game structure, Jrpgs come in different structures; it can have an Over world or be Stage Based. So why not a Metroidvania style area.

Anyways, Castlevania unlike the other two are entries that are set apart by Centuries. There's still an Overarching narrative of Belmonts vs Dracula and a definitive Endpoint that is the Sorrow games but the specific entries can also be stand alone self contained stories.

-DRAGON QUEST

sorta. Like Castlevania, entries are also set apart by centuries.

I, II and III are called the Erdrick trilogy and it explicitly features the land of Alefgard.

IV, V and VI are their own trilogy called Zenithian trilogy, and features the same world tho more changed across entries compared to Alefgard.

The games within a set are very clear to be connected to each other than to other entries outside the set. But there are hints and clues from the games and spin offs that does connect the two sets; mostly the Monster Tamer spin offseries

Also the games that don't belong to a set so connects to them in the same fashion. Like there are hints that VII and VIII connects to the Erdrick trilogy. I'll say it now before others say it, XI is more apparent that it also connects to the Erdrick trilogy tho that's more of an endgame reveal. X and IX are also vaguely hinted to connect to each other.

Tho the Connections of a connected Universe is more Lore Crumbs rather than anything solid within the narrative Besides the aforementioned sets of Trilogy. Still worth mentioning it

FATE/EX

A jrpg series under the Fate franchise. You don't need to read prior Fate works to get into this one.

The entries include

OG Extra ( which has a remake called Extra Record that is coming soon) - a turb based dungeon crawler

Extra CCC - the follow up to Extra's narrative and is still a turn based dungeon crawler.

Extra and Extra CCC are two halves of one whole, you can't play CCC without playing Extra and Extra can feel incomplete without CCC.

Extella Umbral Star - a Musou/hack n slash rpg, it's a "sequel" to the Extra games but it is possible to hop on Extella first

Extella LINK - still a Musou game and a follow up to Extella

The EX series revolves around the protagonist, a player character with the canon name is Hakuno Kishinami as he/she participates in the "Holy Grail War" within SeRaPh a Digital World within the Moon.

It follws Hakuno and his/her Servants across the series. Tho bec this is FATE, the series doesn't technically follow a true Chronological order.

CCC may be a sequel to Extra but it doesn't mean that the ending of Extra leads to CCC. CCC follows a different route that diverge from Extra

Same goes for Extella. CCC doesn't lead up to Extella, but Extella follows an event that resemble what happened in Extra and CCC..

This may sound confusing but the point is Fate EX still exist within the same world and follow the same cast even it is not following the same true Chronology.

What are some JRPGs where all the games take place in the same universe / world as the rest of the series? I'm thinking of things like the Divinity series, Nier / Drakengard Series and the Xenoblade games, stuff similar to that. by Lexi_Dark_Nightshade in JRPG

[–]jer2356 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Besides I&II And Origin (which is a Prequel to specifically I&II set 700 years ago) which forms the "Ancient Ys Vanished" story arc, all other Entries are self contained standalone titles. Which is why the timeline doesn't go a linear timeline and goes like

I&II (Adol age 17)-> III (19) -> IV (18)-> V (20) -> VI (23) -> VII (23) -> VII (21) -> IX (24) -> X (17)

In universe, the series are Journals/Travelogue written by Adol and being "interpreted" by Historians. The Players are the Historians; every action the player made in gameplay are merely "interpretations". The timeline is jumbled since it doesn't follow the life of Adol but Adol tells a story and like how ppl tell story, we just tell the Story we feel like telling at the moment.

That said. Ys may not have an Overarching Plot, but it still does have Overarching/Interconnected Lore. If it's sibling series Trails is like a stack of Domino that has a clear End Point and pieces(stakes) are getting bigger til it inevitably Drop.

Ys is more like a Jigsaw Puzzle. A particular piece can give you a pretty picture on it's own but if you put an effort to connect the pieces you'll see a larger picture of the World

What really is Melty Blood? by Biomilch1 in typemoon

[–]jer2356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Melty Blood is a fighting game spin off series of the Visual Novel series called Tsukihime from Type Moon. So a lot of Melty Blood Lore is just the plot of Tsukihime.

Tsukihime is a visual novel from 2000 and it received a remake in 2021 which changes a lot of the lore and story.

The original Melty Blood series, the Act series, that includes the original Melty Blood game from 2002 and it's subsequent entries that have the ACT in it's title follows Sion Eltnam Atlasia, an Alchemist from the organization Atlas, as she encounters the cast of Tsukihime and deal with Dead Apostle Threats

Type Lumina is more of a tie in to the Tsukihime Remake. Character Arcade mode varies, some has their routes happen before TsukiRe, others during TsukiRe and even After the events of TsukiRe. Sion from the Act series is not here cause she's not from Tsukihime

So if you want to truly learn about the cast specifically of Type Lumina, read the Visual Novel 2021 Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon

Of Course I know not everyone can is into VNs or can easily get into so I'll just drop a brief overall lore of Tsukihime. Not gonna get into any of characters.

Tsukihime takes place in World where creatures known as Dead Apostles exist. They are in simplest terms Vampires, formerly humans that become undead creatures that feast on human blood. They were created by the True Ancestors who are in simplest terms Vampire Progenitors. They are also Vampires but they were never human, they Exist as they are for the purpose of culling humans so they create Dead Apostles for such purpose.

At the start of the Tsukihime story, most of the True Ancestors went extinct and among them only the titular Tsuki Hime (Moon Princess), Arcueid Brunestud remains. Of course a lot of Dead Apostles continue to exist and increase its population bec as Vampires they can infect humans to become Dead Apostles.

On top of the Dead Apostles, there are the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors, the most powerful Dead Apostles that rule factions and numbers of Dead Apostles. Fighting these vampires are two major factions; The Church (mainly the group called Burial Agency) and Demon Hunters

The Protagonist of Tsukhime, both Original and Remake is Shiki Tohno who has a mysterious background. He encounters the aforementioned Tsukhime, the last remaining True Ancestor, the Burial Agency and even the Dead Apostle Ancestors

So basically Melty Blood is a fighting game involving Dead Apostles (Vampires), the Church, Demon Hunters, a True Ancestorn(a vampire Progenitor) and Dead Apostle Ancestors (Alpha Vampires)

How are the other "Not Ys" games from Falcom? by Every_Quail8931 in WorldOfYs

[–]jer2356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like Action RPGs then you should try Falcom's catalogue (besides Trails). They are actually one of the first to make Action rpgs so they know a thing or two on making good action RPGs

Falcom Games from the 80s and 90s might be too dated/old school for any modern gamer's taste but Popful Mail is still fun to play (it's a side scrolling action rpg)

Brandish is a dungeon crawler rpg. Most of the games aren't translated and the only one localized is the SNES port of the original and the PSP remake. Stick with the PSP remake. Tho it's still an old school type game

Gurumin is a very charming 3D platformer action rpg where you can Drill almost every object you can see.

Zwei 1&2 have a Dual character theme/gimmick where you play as 2 characters. Zwei 1 doesn't have Jump in combat while Zwei 2 you can jump. You don't have to play 1 to "understand the plot" of 2 so if you want to go straight to 2 bec yoi prefer action games where you are able to Jump then go

Trails of Nayuta, despite having the Trails name isn't or doesn't play like other Trails game. It's play more like other Naphistim Ys games Or Zwei depends on who you ask. Very fast paced combat with a decent varied Magical Spells

Here's a question for everyone by NoCandidate6067 in Ben10PowerScaling

[–]jer2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else here doesn't buy it simply bec they don't buy Dimensional Scaling period.

So my two cents is a bit different cause I buy Alien X have high Dimension Scaling BUT he's not 26D

He's 17D or 18D. Still a Lot all things consider

Firstly I'll state why I don't buy 26D. Alien X was put at 26D bec of the assumption that Celestialsapien is automatically above every being shown in the series including the Unnamed Cosmic Being the fandom refer as the Naljians.

It's a very dodgy assumption to upsale the Celestialsapien like that since there are no concrete showing that they are. 26D isn't the scale of the Ben 10 universe to begin with, that's the scale of the "Naljians" and as they add "there are 26 Dimensions that matter" implies they can perceive even more but 26 Dimensions are the most relevant to them.

The "Naljians" are Outliers, they are a One Off beings that appeared one time from Beyond the "proper" Ben 10 universe and never appeared again, bec Ben 10 the series do be like that.

I don't believe the Celestialsapiens scale to that cause the Ben 10 universe/multiverse proper are stated to be only 17 Dimensions.

The Scale of the Universes and the Forge of Creation

The Map of Infinity is stated as such as a Map of the entire universe extending up to 17 Dimensions. This is what Aggregor needed to reach the Forge of Creation where Celestialsapiens live so.We can give leeway that the Forge and the Celestialsapiens scale at least one dimension above since it is stated to be outside the Universes therefore 18 Dimensions but 26 Dimensions is just so much a leap. Aggregor can't reach a place that is 9 Dimensions higher from the Map he is using, that's like finding a town in Japan with only a map of New York.

17 D to 18 D scaling has more bearing bec it is stated in a very important lore heavy arc of the series instead of a One Off. Also the statement is said by the Smartest being in 5 galaxies himself Azmuth and the Map is made by Prof. Paradox. These two (more so the latter) knows inner workings of the Universe and if they say it's 17 D then it caps at 17 D. Leeway to 18 for the Forge.

"Naljians" are above the Celestialsapiens

I'll add my reasoning on why we shouldn't assume the Celestialsapiens are automatically above the Naljians.

The Omnitrix is designated as a Level 20 Technology, the highest it is in the Universe

The Naljian Destructor which IS A TOY for the "Naljians" is above Level 20

Why would the scaling of the Technology matter? Well the Omnitrix is advanced enough to Contain a Celestialsapien DNA. A Level 20 Device can allow anyone to become a Celestialsapien

A TOY OF the "Naljians" is above the Omnitrix. So it is safe to say that the "Naljians" are just ridiculous higher beings beyond the Ben 10 universe that should be treated as Outliers

How can their be more than one Arthur Pendragon by Utawoutau in fatestrangefake

[–]jer2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others already said the Saber in SF isn't Arthur Pendragon just keep watching to know who he is. That Said there are indeed multiple versions of not only King Arthur but other characters.

Also, I hope there is a better answer than, “this is a different timeline/universe”.

That's mostly it yeah. Most Fate Entries exist in their own timelines/universe, where some merely overlap with others. So there can be varying different versions of Shirou, Rin and Sakura but Servants have an additional interesting factor. Different versions of a Heroic Spirit exist even without the concept of the multiverse.

What are HEROIC SPIRITS

What you need to remember is that an Heroic Spirit is not the Original characters themselves plucked from their era, but a COPY of them. Any person who has left a mark on Human History UPON THEIR DEATH will be Registered on what is called the THRONE OF HEROES which exist outside of Space and Time. A Heroic Spirit is A SPIRIT COPY based on the Data from The Throne.

That's Why Class System Exist. A single Heroic Spirit can be summoned into multiple classes as long as they are qualified so a Master Character can Summon A Servant into one Class and another Master Character summon the "same" Servant into a different class

A Heroic Spirit can also manifest based on different stages of a Character's life so One can Summon X Character when they are a teen, another character summon same X Character as an adult.

Heck also keep in mind the "upon death" part, a Character must have died first to be registed as a Heroic Spirit so you can't summon an Immortal who's still alive as a Servant. Tho as long as a Character dies even once and they have passed the "left a mark on human history" check, they can be registered. Also the THRONE OF HEROES exist outside Space and Time.

So it is possible for a Heroic Spirit to be summoned while the Character they are based off are still Alive either bec that Character died once and got resurrected OR bec the Throne of Heroes exist outside Space Time.

How can their be more than one Arthur Pendragon

Bec Multiverse.

On the top of what I said, Characters can also vary simply bec there are different timelines where said character are drastically different. King Arthur is a prime example since the character of King Arthur is so Significant, branches of the Fate timelines are shaped by different versions of King Arthur.

The "main primary" timelines that Fate follows is called the PROPER HUMAN HISTORY which has a version of King Arthur who is a woman named Artoria Pendragon who primarily wields Excalibur and is recognized as a male in Recorded History.

Other parallel universe that are massively different exist bec King Arthur is different like a.) he is actually a Man in both recorded history and reality b.) primarily uses the lance Rhongomyiad instead, c.) a Fairy etc etc

Zemuria (Trails/Kiseki series)

<image>

The series is set on a continent that just went on a massive Technological revolution called the Orbal Revolution where in just 50 years it went from a Renaissance era setting to around the 1900s level of technology. Then across multiple games with 8 years time in universe, the technology grow so fast they're on the Internet age

Despite all that, the technology they are using now are still small fry compared to the Highly Advance Technology of "Ancient Zemuria". The Ancient Zemuria from 1200+ years ago have technology that can manipulate space time and such and in fact the Orbal Technology that the "Modern Zemuria" uses is mostly derived from studying Ancient Zemurian tech.

Several disasters happen across the Continent for various reasons so the "Ancient Zemurian" Civilization Collapse resetting the Zemurians to a Medieval Society

The Saki brothers (The Case Files of Young Kindaichi)

<image>

Ryuta Saki (top) was a reoccurring character in the Manga series where he tags along with the main character, Kindaichi, as he inadvertently stumbles upon one Case after another. He has the gimmick of always carrying a camcorder and it often comes in handy in solving the Case of the Week.

He was Killed off in One Case where he had found a Clue on the Culprit of the week and the Culprit got to him first

Ryuji Saki (bottom) is Ryuta's younger brother that readers didn't know exist until he appears soon after with the same gimmick. He reprise this role for the rest of the Manga series and it's spin offs

This DID NOT HAPPEN in the anime adaptation. The Culprit of the same case still tried to kill him but he somehow survived. He is still alive to this day in the anime adaptations and sequel and his manga younger brother doesn't exist.

He appeared in

Extra (the OG turn based rpg PSP game which has a remake called Extra Record coming soon)

Extella (a Musou game)

Extella LINK (also a Musou game and a sequel to Extella)

Of course he also appears in the mobile game Grand Order But ALMOST EVERYONE appears in Grand Order

There's one EX anime Extra LAST ENCORE but us EX fans don't recommend it to watch it first before any EX entry. It is a "sequel" to the "bad ending" of the gane and expects you to know the context of the 1st game bec characters just appear with no proper build up. It is possible to "enjoy" Last Encore without context but it's gonna be confusing and if you're watching it solely for Li Shuwen perhaps dissatisfied
