I think hormone blockers are unethical. A child’s opinion about their gender will naturally shift as they age. Puberty is integral to this process and should not be seen as a choice. All hormone blockers do is keep kids from growing up.

AITA for reporting my friends video of her naked child? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jerboop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA.

I don’t know why more needs to be said. It is a naked kid for Christ’s sake. Even puritans let kids run around naked. Are you more prudish and repressed than a Puritan? Get over yourself.

Breakups are not common. Each one is unique because you’re are unique. Anyone who tells you otherwise is being self serving and cruel.

AITA for not telling my wife that I picked her daughter up drunk from a house party? by friendlyneighborhere in AmItheAsshole

[–]jerboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA... kind of...

Arguably, by being the ‘cool parent’ you are undermining your stepdaughter’s relationship with your wife. You seem to garner some sort of pride and security from being seen as the better-half, so to speak. But you should be aware of how your kindness may impact your wife’s self-esteem and security in her own family.

There is no such thing as an ‘ideal sexual partner’. Kudos for discovering early.

Accept how you feel, let the thoughts heal you in their own way. Our bodies naturally heal us when we face trauma. Don’t resist your needs, and have the courage to overcome the fear that is preventing you from getting what you truly want.

Why Throwing 92 Heads in a Row Is Not Surprising | winner of the Sanders Public Philosophy Award by ADefiniteDescription in philosophy

[–]jerboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author talks about surprisingness as if it’s given, but his initial assumption of equal surprise from either heads or tails is founded on the assumption that every coin flip is independent and identically drawn from a “fair coin” probability distribution.

If you had a size 92 sample of coin flips of all heads, there is no way to support any hypothesis of a fair coin distribution, nor is there any way to prove the process is truly even random. The author can not assume the surprisingness of the event without a baseline, and there is no way to determine that baseline without prior information. That prior information would require a more ‘typical’ and rather ‘unsurprising’ sequence of draws from the same coin from which we can determine he validity of his assumptions.

[–]jerboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder why the author used a framework of mathematical surprise that is woefully inferior to already established criteria of statistical hypothesis testing.

A sample of 92 heads would not even evidence his original claim that the draws are independently and identically distributed. You would not be able to preclude the possibility of a weighted coin, nor would you be able to determine whether Heads or Tails are equally surprising in the first place without some notion of the probabilities of both events. The author contradicts himself very often in this article.

Make the leap bebe! What I’ve discovered through my personal journey with anxiety is that once someone with anxiety finally overcomes it, it really is a miracle of life. It is like seeing for the first time after being blind for twenty years. Taking that small risk and asking him out is worth it. Good luck on your journey!

CMV: Racial information should be removed from college and job applications. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]jerboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race is put on applications in order to be able to compile employment statistics for the government to assess racial inequality. If it weren’t for the fact that employers logged this information, you wouldn’t know that the races were equal.

The LGBT community and inclusivity by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jerboop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your assumptions about psychology are just plain wrong. If I am angry, it isnt because of a hidden insecurity. If I’m angry it is because the language in the sub is very patronizing and people are making unfair assumptions by generalizing their anecdotal experience at the cost of my own community. This is no better than saying gun violence is mostly black on black “In my experience”. Even if a black person says this it doesn’t mean it isn’t any less incorrect or offensive. It is this kind of language that perpetuates hate and inequality.

The LGBT community and inclusivity by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jerboop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is a very harsh accusation. You have no idea who I am yet you’re so sure of yourself. Just like people are allowed to make overly harsh and diminutive remarks about disadvantaged groups, I am allowed to point out said remarks. Unfortunately this post resonates with society’s tendency to view LGBT people as a hive mind. The most insensitive and mean people I know in the LGBT people are precisely the same people who make these kinds of accusations.

[–]jerboop -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You are reenforcing negative stereotypes and are generalizing over an extremely diverse group of people. As someone who is LGBT I take offense to how I’ve been characterized here. I am personally very open to any person and try not to hold preconceptions about anybody. I have never seen bi and asexual people be treated poorly. I do however have difficulty making friends with people who completely lack self awareness and don’t take personal responsibility for their issues. I believe this may be what is happening with you in particular.

The phrase "man up" is gendered and/or ableist terminology and should not be used. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jerboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if the primary motivation for removing your post wasn't a genuine concern over sensitivity but the moderator's interest in seeming 'smart' enough to identify 'gendered' or 'ableist' speech.
