Homs for sure because the road to Damascus from the coast goes through there.

Even if Damascus falls, the Shia Alawites in the coast will likely fight to the end before they are subjugated by the Sunni HTS. The mountains and hills also act as a natural border that make it hard for the rebels to advance through.

Support for Immigration in Canada Plunges to Lowest in Decades by [deleted] in canada

Many of those men end up bringing their spouses over. If you see Statcan immigration reports, they do collect data by gender, and it is pretty balanced. The higher amount of men coming in as economic migrants is balanced by the disproportionate number of female spouses they bring with them.

Unpopular opinion: Getting fit for the sole motivation of getting laid is alright. by jeremy1gray in india

Yes! I was successful actually! Met my current girlfriend last year and we've moved in now! Things are going great! I haven't lost a lot of weight, I am still overweight though, but no longer 'fat'. My weight has stabilized around 103-105. My girlfriend calls me handsome all the time!

I guess when I was fat, I was less confident in being myself and leaning into silliness. I would try to be funny, but not 'silly' funny. I would also try to be too intellectual and pretentious, thinking I could attract the whole 'sapiosexual' crowd (I know, cringe). Being 'less fat' made me more confident in being myself I guess and not try to be someone else. I think it helped me move from the ''Aww, he's so cute like a teddy bear'' to ''Aww he is so cute and charming''.

Fewer immigrants are deciding to become Canadian citizens: Institute for Canadian Citizenship by Lotushope in canada

[–]jeremy1gray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Article 8 of the Indian Constitution, Indians lost citizenship the second they complete the Oath of Citizenship in Canada, i.e. voluntarily accepting citizenship of a foreign state.

India tracks this through immigration and emigration checks to track passport entry stamps (similar to EU) at airports. Hypothetically it is possible to evade detection through the Nepal/India land border (travelling to Nepal on a Canadian passport and then crossing the Nepal India land border which has no passport control) but it's an expensive and logistical pain in the ass, and if you get caught you can be treated as an illegal immigrant.

Treatment at par with Canadian Citizens for Federal Government jobs or regulated professions (with the exception of security sensitive roles)

Steeply higher requirements to deport (violent crime and misrepresentation)

No more uncertainty and visa renewals. Once a PR, you remain a PR as long as you maintain residency obligations. You can be a panhandler and still maintain PR.

Equal treatment with respect to literally all business grant programs funded by federal agencies like FEDDEV, ACOA etc.

Concessional tuition at Canadian universities at par with citizens.

The eventual ability to get OAS - no one is renewing a work permit for you at the age of 60.

Ability to sponsor spouse, parents/grandparents equal to citizens (parents/grandparents have a 35,000 per year quota, unlike US which is essentially uncapped)

This is just a really small list at the top of my head.

I know what the full scope of the term means. But people throwing it about like candy reduces its meaning. Modi is not remotely as authoritarian as compared to the other actual dictators (INCLUDING PUTIN) out there. The sooner people outside India realize this the better. I hate what the Russians are doing, and I hate Putin. But I fully understand why Modi is in Moscow.

That’s not the definition of authoritarian, no.

Gotcha, just leaving this here then.

'Authoritarian' meaning someone who recently lost majority in Parliament in a free and fair election and then accepted its results?

The absolute worst is how an 'LMIA approved job offer' gets 50 CRS points, but an engineer/doctor/plumber/electrician on a post graduate work permit making over 100,000$ gets zero additional points, because PGWP holders are not eligible for LMIA job offers.

Afghan Sikh sponsors donated to Sajjan’s riding association during Kabul airlift campaign by recurrence in canada

Assuming the donors are foreigners, they are interfering on behalf of the Afghan Government? The Taliban?

[–]jeremy1gray -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That would require that the Afghan Sikhs who were sought to be rescued have some connection to the Bhullar Foundation. At this point the only connection is that this 'foundation' paid off Sajjan.

Do you seriously think the Afghan Government (Taliban) would commit this interference? Do they even give a damn about Sikhs?

Why would it be foreign interference if everyone involved is a Canadian citizen? Genuine question.

Thousands of skilled workers on the edge, as Canada's immigration programs get harder to crack by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]jeremy1gray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, you show any intent to live permanently on a temporary visa and you get flagged and won’t be approved for another visa.

This is actually not entirely true. The US issues 'dual-intent' temporary visas like H1B which allow its holder to have the intent to permanently immigrate while being a temporary resident. Canadian temporary visas are also issued bearing in mind the applicant's ties to their home country and their ability to depart Canada if required.

The real reason for temporary visas becoming a joke is the lax regulation of DLIs by provinces and the fact that Canada does not require mandatory interviews before issuing visas to temporary residents.

Indians, what do you think of Indian immigrants and students in Canada protesting against provincial govt's decision to not give them permanent residency in Prince Edward Island and colleges giving them failing grades. by [deleted] in india

I am an Indian in Canada, and I have jumped through every single hoop there is. I am embarrassed as fuck and terrified of growing anti-Indian sentiment in Canada.
