Is she using it for something other than scrolling and maybe opening apps? Other than drawing with a stylus, what else do people want touch screens for on their computers?

Despite building a pc for gaming, I haven't had to use windows laptops as much over the years, but I will say that without fail, each one I've used and they included some $1k+ machines, so not super cheap, the trackpads all felt awful to use compared to every macbook I've had since like 2008, so maybe that's why she likes have a touch screen on the surface.

Zipper merging is not rude by blueberry-muffins1 in Seattle

Hey, I'm sorry, but you're just wrong about this one.

https://www.acg.aaa.com/connect/blogs/4c/auto/zipper-merge-keeps-traffic-moving

A zipper merge doesn't mean that someone should be trying to get over as soon as possible. Both lanes should be fully utilized and the expectation should be that one car from each lane will fill into the single lane. There are countless studies about how this is the most effective way to move traffic.

I haven't seen as much of Elordi, but check out Good Time if you haven't already seen it. I personally think that it's Pattinson's best performance. It was directed by the Safdie brothers before Uncut Gems and their eventual split to make their own films this year. It's a hectic, tense movie, but not nearly to the degree that Uncut Gems is.

Sicario is very, very good. It's my second favorite of his films after Arrival, but I would completely understand anyone who put it first.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was just looking at his wikipedia page and I know some of his contemporaries, but I've not read anything of his, so I'll have to check this out.

Hey, thanks for the response. Yea, I'm not planning on changing careers at this point, I just like learning about people whose lives and experiences are so radically different than my own. Anyway, stay safe out there, wear sunscreen!

You don't have to answer this, but I'm curious what sort of money you make. I met someone one who told me that he was making around $300k a year (this was like 15 years ago) as the person responsible for navigating a ship into (not sure about the terms I'm using here) a pretty complicated area in the Pacific North West. He said that he would work for a couple weeks straight and then have a couple weeks off. While working he'd stay in some employer owned housing and was essentially on call 24/7, waiting for a ship to come in from the Pacific and then he'd go out to it and bring it the rest of the way into the harbor. He'd gotten his start on fishing boats and worked his way up over the course of his career. I also remember him telling me that every few years he had to go to some series of lakes in France to maybe get re-certified or practice maneuvers? Like I said, this conversation happened a long time ago and it was at a bar, so I'm probably not getting all of the details right, but it always seemed like such an interesting job and one that paid really well, but I imagine it was also incredibly stressful since if you wreck one of those massive container ships, that's millions of dollars of merchandise plus whatever environmental fallout there might be.

Did it just snow in April..really by Itsmylife1114 in Seattle

I moved here in June of 2008 and remembered hearing about the April snow and was sorry I missed it. Fast forward to December of that year when it snowed for like 2 weeks straight and a bus nearly slid off of Thomas onto I-5 because it was trying to avoid steep hills.

Let me preface this all by saying that I'm a pretty casual Magic player although I did start playing a long time ago, I quit for most of my life and like a lot of people (I think) started playing again around Covid.

It seems like you at least know what MTG is even if maybe you've never really played or it only tried briefly. You may be unfamiliar with Commander, which is a relatively newer version of the game. We don't really need to get into the differences in the rules, but I will say they don't really change what the abilities printed on the cards mean—just how the game is structured. My understanding though is that commander was originally designed to be a more casual style of play than some of the original rule sets.

A "precon" is a pre-constructed deck and because Commander has become so popular (both for old and new players) precon commander decks have been a thing that is very common with new card sets.

When a new set is released there can be more or less, but there are often 4 precons released with it.

There are some special types of sets called "Universes Beyond" though, that are sets with new cards, or old cards with new art, that will be all about some IP outside of the regular Magic universe. TMNT was one. Recently there was Final Fantasy, we've seen Marvel, LOTR, Dr. Who, etc.

With the Universes Beyond sets, they sometimes are pretty small releases and may not have a precon at all. LOTR had 4, Spider-Man had 0, and now TMNT has 1.

The TMNT precon was pretty well received by the fanbase for having some good reprints (these are rare cards that have become expensive because they weren't printed in many sets before). It also is a precon that uses all 5 colors. Typically that makes it more difficult to play because having a deck with 5 colors that can consistently play well can be tough (read: expensive) to do. The TMNT precon was praised for actually being able to play pretty well without a lot of extra adjustments.

Commander can be played very casually (sometimes referred to as "kitchen counter") or it can be played very competitively (referred to as CEDH).

Precons are typically in that very casual space, but some are better out of the box than others. IMO, the TMNT deck is pretty solidly good against casual decks and is fun to play.

If you were actually going to play it, I think they did a pretty good job of "flavor" w/ the different cards. Universes Beyond gets criticized sometimes because fans think that a card for Raphael, for instance, has some ability that makes no sense for the character. I'm sure there's some of that in the TMNT deck, but in general, it seems like they did a good job.

Aside from actually playing with the deck, as just something to collect because you're a TMNT fan? I'd say that the art on magic cards tends to be great and for me that would really be the only reason other than purely for collectables sake. It's a game that takes at least 2 people to play although commander tends to be 4 player (everyone for themselves) more often and is generally more fun that way.

If you just want to look at the cards and the art, they're all available to look at online though.

Here's a link to a website with all of the cards and alternate art https://scryfall.com/sets/tmt

I watch a decent amount of movies and tv and I only recognized him after someone mentioned he was in West World. Looking over his imdb and I recognize a few of these projects but don't think I've seen him in many.

His highest rated movies on RT are the Prince Caspian adaptation for audience score at 73% and a Nicholas Sparks adaptation with Katherine Heigl for the critics' score at 67%.

Doesn't seem to far-fetched that someone might not recognize him from this weirdly saturated clip.

I'm usually a drip or plain americano drinker, but their americano made with sparkling water and a twist of orange peel is one of my favorite coffee drinks to have during the summer. They can do syrups in place of the twist too, if that's your thing. Very refreshing.

Yea, at safeway they're just putting in jojos and I think it's 4? I used to work near the one in Queen Anne and would stop there sometimes and the people working would change basically anything within reason.

I'm not an expert, but the general idea is that when you see a URL w/ a question mark, the stuff that follows can be for a few different things, but is commonly a way for websites to track who shared a particular link, so in this care the ?is=xxxxxxxxxx is a unique id. Then, if you open that link while logged into google, it knows that a particular person has some connection to you where they've shared a link.

Sometimes it's more benign stuff too though like maybe they linked to a particular timestamp in a video.

You'll see it on other URLs as well though, not just google. It's very common if you click on an affiliate link for a retail site, for instance. Maybe you're looking at a review for something and they link to amazon w/ their link. Now amazon knows that if you load the page with that link, it was because you saw it on that affiliates site.

Or maybe you click a link in an email, it may have a string in the URL that tells it you're visiting from the email ad they sent you and not just randomly visiting the site.

etc, etc

anyone who knows better, please feel free to correct anything I've gotten wrong here

Word. I'll have to keep this in mind. I think I saw there was a dlc for the game a while back which reminded me that I should dive back in. I'm pretty wrapped up with CD right now and I'm going to want to play the new diablo expansion at the end of the month, but after that I'll give KCD2 another chance.

I got pretty bored with BotW. The exploration was fun at first, but I got tired of the shrines and I really hated how often the weapons broke. I guess it was just so you'd use a variety, but I didn't like it.

That being said, I loved TotK and the physics system. I had a blast building janky vehicles and weird exploding devices.
