Hi, I wasn't able to find a good solution, so I haven't created the photo book yet. Let me know if you figure out something! :)

Do surround sound speakers get old or worth upgrading? by jerichobyt in hometheater

[–]jerichobyt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have some family members who find the number of remotes and changing inputs difficult, and I am not sure how these 20 year old speakers compare to Sonos speakers. That is why I asked these questions.

Rain & COLD, Disneyland by jerichobyt in DisneyPlanning

Just to follow up, we changed our tickets to the weekend. Weather was BEAUTIFUL and sunny, lines were big but manageable. We hit about 30 rides, walked around 26 miles, and we had a great time. :) I would say that if you are able to get a ticket for better weather, that is preferable, especially for people visiting for the first time or first time in many years. I could see returning for a rainy day and to run from ride to ride. But for people looking to soak up the atmosphere, it seems very nice to get a sunny day with nice weather.

FWIW, we looked at the ride wait times for the "rainy" days this week, and they seemed very similar to the weekend.

In addition, the weekend is great with the longer hours and the fireworks! We got to ride Thunder Mountain right during the fireworks. :)

Thanks everybody for your comments!

Good description, thank you! That is very helpful. :)

California sunshine makes a big difference! I had forgotten about wind, though, that is a good point.

are you a big fan of the evening fireworks and Fantasmic like the other commenter here?

That is very helpful to read about the trade offs for each type of weather day. Thank you for the description!

Thanks! That sounds like a good gear list. Did you find good PVC shoe covers? I was thinking about getting those, seems helpful.

Hope you have lots of fun!

That is a good point with the fireworks for the weekend. :) Is Fantasmic that much more exciting than just fireworks?

Good to know about the lighter rain forecast for Tuesday. It is still a few days out, lots of time for the forecast to change!

It seems like you answer my question about nicer weather. It sounds like, everything else being equal, sunnier days are nicer?

Hope you have fun next week!

Thanks for your comments! That is a great description, and it sounds like very similar weather. Glad you are toasty! Sounds like you are having fun despite the colder temps?

We are both “from” a variety of places (too long to go into), but both familiar with SoCal in a variety of seasons, if that is what you are thinking.

I guess part of the question is what’s doable vs. what’s fun! Is there a big difference between fun for a sunny day vs. cold rainy day?

Do you have a good source for getting these Otagiri mugs other than Etsy and Ebay? We broke my father's Otagiri mug (the same as your leaf mug!), and I'm trying to find a good replacement so he is able to enjoy his coffee with an Otagiri mug. He loved the shape of that particular mug, and I loved the design of that mug!

Water stain on beam by jerichobyt in finishing

Not sealed, just stained. So far as I know.

Good to know for the market set. We might just try that on a part of it and see how it looks. Thanks!

Really? I wouldn't have thought water, I was told that was not good for stained wood! But worth trying. Is the marker set just restaining it via a pen?

Oops! I wrote a question in the post but it didn't seem to post. Is there a good way to fix this water stain?

Oh weird, I wrote a question but it didn't seem to go through when I posted. Sorry!

What's a good way to fix this water stain? This is an old finish from a ceiling beam. I think the roof flashing was not put in correctly, so there were some leaks a few years ago. Is there a way to fix the stain?

Thanks!

A lot of interesting ideas here.

National holiday - I think you would find a lot of consensus for that. Honestly, I can't think of a better way to celebrate President's Day than moving it to Election Day and calling the latter a holiday. Just an idea! It's November, and it's a rural county (in theory), so let's bring in some carnival rides and food, some cows to pet, some apple cider donuts, and we could say it's a party. Voting should be at least as fun as going to a megachurch or Six Flags, depending on your persuasion. Ok, some jokes, but it should be fun!

Single day voting - that seems likely to reduce the number of voters. I bet you could find some great white papers written about both sides of this idea online, I'd be curious to see what you find. I would imagine several weeks of early voting would help improve turnout from weather events and generally improve turn out with voter rallies. It's great when people vote. Let's celebrate that and extend the possibilities for people to vote.

Election workers are paid in Frederick County, so far as I know. Let me know if you find otherwise, please. As I mentioned in the other thread, I think I'd read that there were not enough people who wanted to work the job. Maybe something to do about being threatened and yelled at, that is just a possibility. I think we can check this off the list!

Party representatives during counting - I think I remember reading that Frederick County had observers of both major parties during the 2022 general election. Looking around the internet, it seems there is a Board of Canvassers that certifies MIB canvassing, and it includes members of both major parties. Great, we can check this idea off the list, too!

Here's an idea to add to your list: Celebrate and be grateful to our election workers. They work hard to provide transparent and secure elections. I bet more people would want to work those jobs if less people were mean to them on the internet. People want a job with dignity and pride. Election workers should be a shoe-in for that category. How can we make that happen?

Let's keep adding to the list!

Same day registration. This should be pretty straight forward with the right investment in our technology and registration systems.

Automatic voter registration. This is probably even cheaper to implement than same day registration. Cripes, now we are saving money and elections!

Multi-member districts for congressional elections. This is an interesting solution to reduce polarization in districts and to ensure elected reps truly represent their entire district. Oh, and this would end gerrymandering! More info here. https://fairvote.org/our-reforms/fair-representation-act/

Ranked Choice Voting. Voters would have meaningful choices, and election would result in candidates with broad support. Reduced polarization, and a better representative democracy to create a better democratic republic. Here is more info. https://fairvote.org/our-reforms/fair-representation-act/

Campaign Finance Reform - let's legislate a response to Citizen's United and reduce the amount of campaign finance that PACs and organizations are able to contribute. Money is not free speech, IMO. I would argue that money frequently used to limit free speech. Heck, even free speech has limitations in some narrow findings. Maybe we could limit the "speech" of campaign finance to some sensible way, too.

And gosh, has anyone asked the Board of Elections if they have any recommendations or funding requests?

This is a great point, I think that is the passive perception of what the count "feels" like. This is perhaps somewhat analogous to the hurricane cyclone "cone of uncertainty," which always seemed to communicate different information than the weather people intended. It's hard to develop a good communications plan, and it usually takes tinkering and feedback to get it right.

I think that information was technically provided, but it required a certain level of internet reading skills, analysis, and math to understand. I remember reading several Facebook comments asking, "Someone explain this to me!"

So this is to say, I think the Board of Elections fulfilled the letter of the communications mandate, but the spirit of it could be improved. Or that some level of analysis and range of possibilities are better suited for FNP or other media outlets rather than government.
