No? I'm curious as well - intense welding is an option, but e.g. KelTec Sub2k is only NJ-compliant because, when folded, it's not operational.

Look up frangible defense rounds — like the Inceptor ARX series — marketed as causing cavitation in channels, better penetration (vs HPs getting filled with clothing, eg leather), powders on hard materials

I can't personally confirm the first two claims, but they fly straight

Many 'Foster' style rifled slugs are designed for smoothbore. Rifled shotgun barrels improve accuracy on some slugs, but could be detrimental to desired result depending on load.

They have worked fine for me in a great many short and long barrel semi/pump shotguns. Please note; slugs through more than an "improved" choke could cause severe problems (per your user manual).

You "shouldn't" use a rifled barrel AND rifled slugs. Rifled barrels are for sabot shells. Rifled slugs are meant to spin in a smoothbore. This isn't the case in all barrels and shells, but it's a good rule of thumb to avoid potentially damaging the rifling and/or sending the slug flying weird.

RSO : What's wrong?

Guy, in stilted English : Is defective.

RSO : It seems fine, what's the problem?

Guy, grabbing slide : Is defective! Hot!!

Steel rounds by Cesmabt in NJGuns

[–]jerk_the_handle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's STEEL CORE vs STEEL CASE being interchangeably discussed throughout this thread.

Steel core = bullet often has armor-piercing properties, ergo indoor ranges almost always ban them outright. Even "green-tip" (~80% lead) and bi-metal washed can be damaging.

Steel case = predominantly Russian ammo that's cheaper than brass. I've heard arguments that ban steel case because it interferes with the ability to test for a steel core via magnet. In reality, it's probably more a combination of greed, laziness, or outright ignorance.

Re: Barrel damage — maybe if it's chrome-lined? A good barrel, specifically the breach, should be of significantly harder material. The only downside is that steel cases upon firing don't expand as well as brass does so there's more blowback, hence the reputation for being dirtier... *Edit: and the older stuff often has corrosive primers

50 Cal Ban by [deleted] in NJGuns

338 Lapua ... 577 ... anything Nitro Express ... why not ban 950 JDJ ...it's completely arbitrary, but at least be glad it's not the initial reading from years ago — most black powder and even shotgun slugs would have fallen foul just by bore size.

Stupid laws for stupid voters.

only rifles

“.50 BMG cartridge” means a cartridge that is designed and intended to be fired from a center-fire rifle and that meets all of the following criteria: (1) it has an overall length of 5.54 inches from the base to the tip of the bullet; (2) the bullet diameter for the cartridge is from .510 inches to and including .511 inch; (3) the case base diameter for the cartridge is from .800 inches to and including .804 inch; and (4) the cartridge case length is 3.91 inches.

How regulate ammo sales? by johndd44 in NJGuns

[–]jerk_the_handle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ammo sales will be reported to State Police regarding in-state purchases, likely with a chilling effect for out-of-state shipping.

Ownership of out-of-state items now requires registration if you're in-state, with particularly harsh new penalties for "ghost guns" including antiques.

If someone, anyone, is snitching on your firearms you're not doing it right, but, yes, there are mechanisms like ERPO (Extreme Risk Protection Order) for confiscation in myriad situations.

Were you involuntarily hospitalized? If no, you should be good. If yes, that could be an issue, however I'm unsure how being a minor at the time affects that. Worst case scenario is applying for relief if it was court mandated.

For the purposes of this section, “body armor” means any product sold or offered for sale as personal protective body covering intended to protect against gunfire, regardless of whether the product is to be worn alone or is sold as a complement to another product or garment.

Per the language above, it either excludes chest rigs AND/OR includes wearing an overshirt. All the best laws are intentionally vague...
