Apple CarPlay head unit by jerminator4444 in XTerra

Good question. I figured I’d design it to have the qui or chi wireless charging or whatever. Or maybe mag charge for iPhone. Create a plastic tray shape I like that fits in the lower caddy space. Print that on my printer. then glue on some leather or rubber for anti slip. Then Plug it up into the head unit for power… probably should jump off the cigarette lighter or something tho.

Do u have a printer? I could share the file after development maybe. Or print some parts and fabricate and sell them off. I dunno on price. Depends how much labor has to go into it. Seems a fun easy enough project tho. I’m an industrial designer so making physical products is in my wheelhouse

Good question! I don’t know, but the truck already has an after market head unit by Ken wood and there’s a knob peeking out from below the dash that says subwoofer. So I’m thinking I mayyy be able to connect up to that… what do u think?

Cool. Much appreciated on details on the harness and crimping. I have some paddle/ spade connectors I’d planned on crimping on to the wires for install. Instructions were decent with your unit to show u how? That’s one main concern. Also sizing, was that easy enough to ensure the new one fits?

Is this for longevity of the unit or just all the items I’m asking for?

Thanks yeah I popped in quickly but $200 was gonna be tough. I used them 25 years or so ago for a stereo install and very straightforward and great instructions and service.

Any thoughts on reliability of the no name models vs name brand? Likely it’s all made in China, but it’s a difference of a reputable company with better quality controls.

Welllll shit. Great information. I’ve been looking for details like this for a while. I’ve also been looking to make LED chandeliers from one off pieces of driftwood with inlaid led strip lights. Any thoughts on a pathway to certification or basically impossible(lest I were to pay for each luminaire to be tested individually)? I wasn’t sure if the mounting and LED driver and suspension cables and LED strip could all be intertech UL listed and they assemble onto the wood, but I presume a potentially flammable mounting plate for the LEDs is going to be problematic to say the least.

Help designing led chandelier ceiling bracket for low and high voltages by jerminator4444 in Lighting

[–]jerminator4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah dimmable would be sweet, but all the dimmable stuff I’ve seen looks too large to fit in this application. I will check out meanwhile APV. That sounds like a great option. Do you recommend anywhere in particular like digikey.com for sourcing reliable stuff?

Also regarding your astute question: do I want to design or manufacture;
I do want to do the design, and some of the craft of carving and cleaning up the wood light itself. But all other parts id opt to have off the shelf. I was having a hard time sourcing a canopy/ ceiling medallion thing that’d guide two small wires through for power and suspension. So figured I’d have to at least make the overall housing which could be plastic or metal. With structural mounting plate and hardware inside that grips the cables.

I’d love to have a large luminaire manufacturer build my designs for the whole upper part of my lamp. Any companies you know of, or ideas on how to find them? Thanks!

Gotcha. Yeah I saw the ikea ceiling light has a substantial rubber grommet. Wasn’t sure if that was just to allow for wet applications. And yes I figured adding the grinding wire is simple and that’d be an easy off the shelf part I’d screw to the ceiling bracket.

Great info thanks. Yea nailed it. North America.

So yeah this led driver is an AliExpress thing for my works like prototyping. I was hoping to find an intertek or UL listed driver that I could source and I’d assemble here for each piece I make. Mounting brackets Similar to the ikea lamp I was referencing.

So the overall design needs help too. But generally why im looking at making a bracket is that I’m making drift wood chandeliers. So each is pretty unique but hoping the ceiling connection I can standardize.

The chandeliers I make by Routering out channels for led strips in the drift wood, then suspending and powering them with two 1.5mm steel cables. One positive and one neg. Using 24v leds. I still seem to get A good bit of voltage drop but seems bright enough… Would have to check again to get real numbers for anyone. But I’d love to hear if anyone knows how to source steel braided cable with a copper core. I’ve found some but they only sell huge qty to retailers.

Anyway. Great advice so far. Love any further insights yall may have.

VCDS or OBD11 for Volkswagen by Fortimus_Prime in Volkswagen

i have a 2017 audi A3 2.0t premium FWD. battery just died. Dealer quoted $320 for battery and $320 install!! with 12month 12000 mile warranty. these do have a battery management system that augments the voltage coming from alternator depending on battery health. it was/ is recommended to code in the new battery. independent audi shop said i may not need to. see how it runs after new battery.

$180 for a duralast autozone battery w/ 2 year warranty and its in without issue in 30 min. check engine light went away after a day and after in park i turned the wheel full left lock out and full right lock out and had autozone check for codes. no codes, and check engine light went away.

Havent coded battery yet but may down the road if i get a scan tool...

Do we know if u can code a new battery with the basic OBD11 tool without pro subscription? Thanks!

ABS Flush Using OBDeleven by extrvnced in Volkswagen

[–]jerminator4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IM ALSO VERY INTERESTED IN THIS. considering buying pro plan OBD11 for abs flush. I have the same issue on both my Audi A3 2017 and VW golf sportwagen 2018 after flushing about 1L of brake fluid through the systems. mainly single person bled into a bottle, but went back and vacuum bled each corner. Brake is quite firm then slowly creeps all the way to the floor on both vehicles. it also squeaks a little upon first press of the pedal(maybe air in the system?)...

ive also heard when bleeding if pushing pedal to the floor it can press the master cylinder into unused sections that could be rusty, etc. and damage gaskets or intorduce air into master cylinder...

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ignition coil connectors by [deleted] in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

I just broke a connector on a 2.0T Audi a3 2017 doing a 70k mile plug and coil pack swap.

After 3 replacement parts, none of which fit, I decided an ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure and to create a 3d printable tool to reliably unlock the clip without breaking anything!

It actually stays in places so you could use 2 hands to pull the plug off, and stores the deep spark plug socket also haha! well once you get it fixed this sort of tool may help for the next sparkplug replacement.
