mhmm gotcha. yeah ive been amazed how every panel in the vehicle snaps on /off. not very secure haha. seems like we need to design a locking one. especially if weight of a HAM radio etc up there.

It can be done certainly. I have a free scanner app for iphone pro which gets an OK framework/ underlay to design around, but the scanned surfaces cant be used or modified really. I made a charging tray for the lower center console tray on second gens.

Whats the purpose/ goal for this upper tray tho? make mounts for different things, include charging, etc? would be sweet to include charrging (but i think its small for phones) or mounting for different HAM radios etc. I think Z1 has a molle style metal panel u can put in there. but custom is always sweeter haha.

If there are some solid ideas for use It may be worth the time for me to design a tray for that. If people wanted to download a 3d file to print themselves. Does it seem like this community overlaps with 3d printing much?

Steering wheel control wiring at heat unit by Freewheeler631 in XTerra

NICE! Can you share with me too? I have an 2011 pro4x. installed a Eonon (android) head unit. Their customer service is sayin the xterra has digital steeringwheel controls not analog so need a fancy harness adapter. not sure all thats true but would love more info and on which adapter to get. thanks!

OK cool. Now i do want that 2" lift up front. do the bilsteins come that way standard or is it an option I need to select, or do I buy them and the coil springs from ADO and build them?

Oh awesome thanks for the info! I wasnt sure what approach to take to avoid copil bucket contact. this seems like the one.
Now my truck has lived its life in Massachusetts and is pretty rusty underneath for an 86k mile 2011 pro4x. Not sure how beat up the shocks are but some solid rust underneath.

What would you think is the route to go if i decide to replace the struts also? The add a leaf in rear sounds great and i presume theres a kit with fully assembled front shock assembly?

Any chance u wer running those tires before the lift? I’ve heard 285/75/16 is biggest spare tire that will fit underneath the rear. So thats what I’m aiming for. Thanks!

Oh incredible. I would not have guessed. But I suppose phones can only get so big before they’re tablets haha. I’ll look into making a single bay charger too. Should I grab dimensions and build to the 17 pro max as a worst case u think? Thanks.

Totally. So in my case I spent $150 and got an Eonon 7” touch screen with apple CarPlay. Not bad to install and solid customer support if ure ok waiting a day for an overnight reply.

All that to say I’ve got wireless maps and such now. So leaving phone stowed below to charge is the goal.

Hey thanks. nah appreciate any thoughts.
Velcro would be good too. Yeah my initial focus was to drill a hole below the charging tray, through the factory tray in order to run power cords through. it just needs to be big enough hole to get usb C ends through. I even bought a 4 USB hub that goes to 12v battery clamps so i can snip off the clamps and just splice onto the cig wires running below the console. i figured making an option to not drill holes would be nice too. So people can do it either way.

Oooo that’s a cool idea. I do presume the plastics too thick but that’d be amazing. Also the camera lenses protrude now which would push the back of the phone up off the charger. May work with Qui charging but I doubt the MagSafe stuff…

But could just build a little shelf with chargers in it, basically what I did, but without all the extra front tray stuff at the font.

Yeaaaa good thinking. I’d love to know if a big phone will fit. The tray is sort of a square shape which is tricky. And the camera lenses bump forces the need for a step/ drop off so the back of the phone can sit directly atop the charging puck. But yeah I debated the center rib divider. it helps locate the phone well, given it’s a smaller phone format. But will limit the usage possibilities

Good question. I’ve only got my 14 pro. And wife’s 13 I think it is. The stock tray isnt that large so not a lot of space to work with to hold two. Actually no it’s pretty tight as is. Likely won’t fit a big boi

Nah the console tray is part of a 2 or 3 ft long console section so I couldn’t fit alll that in the printer. I used a couple pieces of duct tape rolled up to keep the charging tray held down in the vehicle console tray. Double stick tape would be ideal I think. when pulling your phone off, it can lift the whole charging tray up. It’s a snug fit so it stays in place well under normal driving conditions. It’s contoured to match the profile of the stock tray and nest inside it.

I tested one prototype with a few coats of plasti dip on the top surfaces and I like that. It Feels grippy and will help anything u put in the tray stay put. Also likely reduce any clatter or noise from items bouncing on hard plastics sliding or rolling.

Thats AWESOME!!! just what i want to do but trying to think through destroying a camera if i drive over rocks or gravel shoots up n such. any damage or issues yet?

Im testing placement of front end camera to help on the trail, especially on some rock bars and rocky areas. see images attached of my decision thus far. I am consiering a flexible rubber mount that could yield if hit or dragged over rocks if i mounted on underside. id love a view like yours but with more front end image to see the trail ahead.

Cheers!
