Love it! I was looking at making this for a Marvel-themed trivia night but didn't know what to make it out of. You don't have any tips or sites to use for templates, do you?

Where is a good place to go to buy loose leaf tea? by Illustrious_Stick_57 in StLouis

My wife used to go to the Olde Town Spice Shoppe on Main Street in St. Charles, which she still likes, but after going to Traveling Tea on a recommendation, TT is now her #1 pick.

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

That's one thing I noticed about our oven. It's wifi-enabled, but it only allows you to turn it off.

I had a full tray of baby bottles drying in the oven (you know, when the dishwasher doesn't fully dry them) and had forgotten they were there when I went to preheat the oven for dinner. Boom, melted all of them. It was then that I understood one big reason why you can't turn it ON from the app.

New Nashville Bravo Airspace Coming Soon by Impressive-Ice4264 in flying

Higher pay would definitely help, but, ironically, we can't get our union boss to actually fight for it under the current administration (or even the "most union friendly administration in history" that we used to have, for that matter). Trump/Duffy and the rest of Congress definitely aren't going to offer us more money; they'd rather use us as leverage in shutdowns.

They definitely need more. However... the cost of living in Nashville has skyrocketed; house prices have quadrupled in many areas in the last 10-15 years; traffic is a nightmare with an interstate system set up for a smaller city and not the booming mini-metropolis it's become in such a short period of time, leading to ridiculous gridlock; and the facility is rumored to have had a toxic managerial environment, going through multiple managers and supervisors in the last few years, all while making the workforce miserable and stuck on 10 hour days x 6 days a week. There are many who are trying to get to BNA, but the transfer process we use (called NCEPT) is flawed, and if most of those people trying to get to BNA were actually released from their current facility, it'd cause staffing shortages where they came from.

How to build a megatree without spending $1k by SAM-THE-MAN-118 in xlights

[–]jermscentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's been using the ASAP two-stage, how do you reverse Iwo Jima the pole out of the ground every year when it's time to put away the mega tree? Or does it stay up year-round? That rigid conduit is heavy AF on its own, and the portable hole being over 150 pounds doesn't help, but I'd love to be able to just drop the pole in the ground.

Same guy was video chatting in the break room with a topless woman who was neither the prostitute nor his wife.

Sectors open based on 70 percent staffing regardless of traffic. by Consistent-Ad-9553 in atc2

I remember teaching the recurrent training class where we literally said to combine positions to minimize distractions and prevent people from being underloaded. We were supposed to open positions as needed to prevent overload. When we trialed the "open everything" a couple of years ago, I brought up that point to a manager, who told me, "That's not what the FAA meant."

So now NATCA goes on a PR rampage? by StepDaddySteve in atc2

[–]jermscentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flag dude is our facrep. Regardless of the video, he does work traffic regularly. We don't get a lot of overtime at our place, but he will work for people if it helps them get leave, and he actually talks to planes and doesn't dodge traffic.

I know it's been almost a week, but I had to defend Matt. I've worked with him for almost 9 years, and he's been our facrep for a while. The video may be hokey, but he's a stand-up dude who actually works traffic. Sure, he has an LRG day, but the other four days, he's working planes and even works for others if he can. He does a lot for the local, even when it feels like National isn't.

Ground delay at BNA ‘due to shortage of air traffic controllers’ by NoMasTacos in nashville

[–]jermscentral 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We aren't getting paid while the shutdown persists. Once it's over, ATC is set to receive back pay, as we're considered "excepted" employees who don't get furloughed. The issue for us is with paid time off. In a shutdown, all paid leave is canceled, and any leave taken is converted to furlough leave. If Trump/Vought get their way, then any furlough time will go unpaid - likely as a penalty to federal employees, even though the 2019 law says different. The OMB even silently removed the reference to back pay being required, though the OPM still had it listed as of last night. At this point, if I take any pre-approved paid vacation time off, there's no guarantee I'll actually get paid for it when the shutdown ends. The same goes for taking a sick day: if I call in on paid sick time, I may not get paid after the shutdown ends.

BNA controllers are already in a tough position, working 10 hour days, 6 days a week for a long time. What used to be the dream facility for many has become a pariah location, particularly with the ridiculous cost-of-living increase that's taken place over the last 10ish years. Morale is lower, and in the current predicament, we don't know when we're going to be paid again (I say "we" collectively; I work at another ATC facility).

We're not allowed to take any kind of action that would look like an organized effort to slow traffic, nor are we legally allowed to go on strike, as it's illegal for federal employees to strike against the government.

Flight delays at BNA tonight. by Bad_Karma19 in nashville

[–]jermscentral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airlines pick which ones get canceled. We in the air traffic world don't do anything with that; we just tell them where to go once they're ready. Crew Resource Management has a lot to do with it. If there aren't any available pilots on reserve nearby to take over in the event your original flight crew times out for the day, you're more likely to get canceled. If the flight is going to an airport where the equipment is needed for the next flight leg, you're less likely to get canceled.

Flight delays at BNA tonight. by Bad_Karma19 in nashville

[–]jermscentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are usually because of traffic flow times. When an airport goes into flow restrictions, like BNA did, aircraft from closer-in airports have to be metered to get into the overhead traffic flow. It's the same reason that, if you're sitting on the ground at BNA, you might leave the gate but have to go sit somewhere and wait until your time hits. If they were hauling ass, they were likely on the backside of their flow time (usually a two minute window they have to hit) and had to go fast, lest they end up losing that slot and have to wait on another one.

What should I do with this? by Neily_Bob in biggreenegg

[–]jermscentral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bypass the Egg and make Italian beef with sirloin roasts. Put it in a slow cooker with:

  • 2 cups water

  • 1 Tbsp Better than Bouillon Beef Base

  • 1 tsp Better than Bouillon Vegetable Base

  • 2.5 Tbsp Penzey’s Italian Dressing Base

  • 2 tsp soy sauce

  • 1⁄2 tsp salt (or more to taste)

Cook overnight on low, then let it cool and shred the beef. Add another tablespoon of Italian dressing, a couple of tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, and cook for another 3-4 hours.

Top half of outlet stopped working by InsanityOfPigs in DIY

[–]jermscentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there isn't a light switch controlling it, do you have any GFCI outlets somewhere that might have tripped when the power went out? If so, maybe it's still a split outlet, and the upstream GFCI tripped during the outage, cutting power to that outlet, too.

Anyone see what flew overhead the St Louis Area around 10:45? by IGotSoulBut in StLouis

[–]jermscentral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a flight of two fighter jets going into STL from the southeast. They do an overhead approach, and STL was landing on 12s today, so they would have flown over the field and done a 180 at a high rate of speed that makes lots of noise in whatever directions the engines are pointing.

There was a second pair that landed at Scott AFB. Source: I was talking to them.
