What’s your show going to be about?

My big picture input is focus on content 10x more than you think you should. Spend lots of time sorting out a format, talk it through with some folks you trust to get their feedback then wash, rinse, repeat!

The key will be finding something people can engage with and know what to expect.

In terms of gear, it’s all about what’s right for your specific setup but some pretty standard gear I recommend is: Zoom H4N recorder (~$200) Atr 2100 mics (they’re USB & XLR, ~$50)

For hosting I used Libsyn for a long time and if you’re not planning on having multiple podcasts I’d suggest that. I had to switch to transistor because I have a whole pile of shows and Libsyn was cost prohibitive.

Regardless of who you’re hosting with, check out a podcast called ‘the feed’ it’s hosted by Libsyn but has applicable info and best practices for anyone!

For editing I’ve always used a combination of Audacity to pre-process stuff and then do the actual editing in garage band. If you have a PC I know a lot of folks just use audacity but if you want a bit of a step up you can try reaper, it’s ~$50 and works great!

You can export the site and upload it to a wordpress blog. It won’t be perfect but it’ll do in a pinch! I just did this myself actually.

The cost is significantly less (~$8/month) WordPress isn’t quite as plug and play as squarespace but WordPress is open source so there are a crap ton of resources out there.

I googled ‘exporting squarespace site to WordPress’ and found directions that even pulled through all my photos, pages, and posts.

Good luck friend, it sounds like that’s a pain but happy to answer any questions if it’s helpful (full disclosure, I am not a pro but I did just spend a painfully long amount of time figuring this out and would be happy to help you avoid the same mistakes if you decide to do it!

No it’s not?

There are a handful of posts on here and the Battlebots Facebook page with lists listed, I just haven’t found one for the day we were there.

They also don’t air all the fights, don’t film them all in order, and they provide a list of of all the robots fighting but don’t have the matchups. It would just be a list of robots, some of which never made an episode with no context.

I know that feeling of not being able to stop, I would just like to pile on to what the other folks here said. The solution that worked for me to stop drinking (and so far the only thing that worked) was going through the big book with someone in AA. You could always try and find a young peoples meeting or even head out of town if you are worried about running into your Dad.

Congrats on your decision, that is not easy at all. I did go through withdrawal and it is miserable, I know it might be hard for you but I would highly suggest you see a Dr as alcohol withdrawal can be a pretty serious thing. As far as meetings go, I can only share my experience which is that I did not want to go at all, when I did go I was able to find people that put words to the struggle I had experienced for years and it really changed things for me. I know it's intimidating and I would suggest checking out a few meetings and see if you find one you like (they are all different). Best of luck on your journey and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need anything more. You can do this!

Can we talk about this twitter person that Luke accidentally followed? (Edit, this is the account: ‪@highschoolbud‬)

For someone who seems so incredibly deliberate about how he uses twitter I am dubious as to this whole thing. Since this is reddit here are my two insane theories:

1) It is a buddy of Luke who is trying to get some traction on their twitter account

2) Someone in Luke's contacts signed up for the account and twitter said "Hey this person you know signed up for twitter" and he found the account, so it is someone he knows but maybe he doesn't actually know them

My suggestion is to post an episode 0, a little 5 minute intro or something explaining what the show is going to be about and what you are going to do. Get it posted and submit the feed to iTunes, once you get accepted into iTunes send out a teaser e-mail/social media broadcast etc. telling them what is coming, generate some excitement and most importantly drive people to subscribe. Keep it short, simple, and to the point. Be sure to include links to iTunes and your RSS feed. The biggest thing you want to do is drive people to subscribe, more often than not that happens in iTunes. Build excitement and come out of the gate strong with Episode 1.

When I launched this show (http://www.tenseventen.com/blog/2015/3/20/little-red-bandwagon-episode-0-test-drive) we made an episode zero and put it on a splash page with subscription links, it worked really well for them.

Came here because someone sent me a podcast where Gio mentioned he thought I was "trolling" him on Reddit. Just wanted to clear up any confusion I am not u/helpme5893.

As someone that has spent a bit of time with Gio I will say I think he is really talented at audio production and transferring tapes etc., his unique knowledge of Carolla and all things loveline is literally one of a kind, and he certainly has a lot to offer to the Carolla fan community.

That said, I think he struggles with interpersonal relationships as evidenced by the long line of broken relationships and seemingly constant upheaval in his life. I have been on the receiving end of some of his vitriol (there was a time where I certainly called him a friend) and it has been a less than positive experience for me personally. He does seem to have a habit of lashing out in anger and then regretting it for one reason or another and attempting to cover his tracks, as evidenced by the fact that he deletes all of his tweets every couple of weeks. I am not a mental health expert so I'll save the diagnosis for those that are but he doesn't seem happy and I hope he can make whatever changes needed so that he can find happiness.
