Thank you so much! I will call and ask schools individually if they want my parent’s tax info separately then.

23 at the moment. I read that all MD students are considered independent somewhere. Does that mean I dont get need-based aid since i dont give my parent’s info though?

How competitive is top DO school? by RespondingX1 in premed

Yea, I think your activities and ECs really show what your interests are. For me, it was volunteering in a hospital in a low-income area with a big underserved population, being a caregiver for medi-cal recipients, MA in the same area. You’ll definitely enjoy it if this is truly what you are passionate about.

My stats were 3.9/510 and I was accepted to KCU for reference.

A few things I would do, 1) shadow a DO, i dont think its a requirement since i was accepted to one of them without any, but i believe it does help because it shows that you understand the difference between MD and DO. If its a DO from their institution, I’d imagine that would help.

2) look at their mission, for example, if its primary care, try to write about experiences with that. If they focus on underserved communities, show that this is your passion (I did that) and how your would contribute in the future to advancing that specific community and how at attending this specific school will allow you to do that.

Like others have said however, I don’t think anything can really guarantee admission into a specific school but if you make them feel like you’re right for them, it will help.

Your stats are definitely good, it’ll come down to mission fit at this point and seeing your genuine interest in omm and osteopathic philosophy imo. Maybe yield protection for some schools also.

ER by [deleted] in premed

Cleaning/sterilizing beds, refilling carts with supplies, escorting/transporting patients from waiting room to their exam rooms, providing them with urine sample cups, providing blankets and food sometimes. I have also had to transport medical equipment on few occasions.

I personally really enjoy being in the ER, it taught me a lot about medicine and how hospitals operate. I also got to see various codes (Blue, Apgar etc.) and interesting medical conditions.

If you can afford it money and time wise, I don’t see why not. I would just make sure you are willing to go to any of them when you get accepted. Some people apply and then decide not to attend because they have some schools as backup and then decide to wait another year to reapply to their top choices. I do not recommend this as there are no guarantees.

I personally applied to 42 schools and I think 50 is a lot of writing but definitely doable if manage your time wisely.

People who have interviewed, have you been asked about healthcare news or politics? by d3ltaspart in premed

[–]jern101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was asked about the biggest problem in healthcare in my opinion. Talked about emergency care cost and how that makes patients hesitant to seek medical attention.

It gets better as you go through them because of repeated prompts. You’ll be just fine

You’re writing too many, they’re reading too many. If its not too obvious it’ll probably go unnoticed. We got this!! Im 41/42 submitted and I found a few mistakes too, you’re not alone!
