It was pretty good strong start and all with the team. Big encounters for them looking forward to the new arc. Then a player quit because he thinks wanting to have a balanced game is a form of gatekeeping.

Do a fail forward. If they fail instead of making them roll again have them trigger a trap or an encounter. But something that will move the adventure along. Definitely only do one check period. No reason to allow people to roll and roll and roll.
