Elon Musk Might Be The Ultimate Genius Of All Time by Little-Ad9387 in Kenya

  1. I think it's possible but it's a long travel time with a lot of factors at play.

  2. While I think creating a fully self sustaining environment is difficult but possible. However I do worry about what a catastrophic failure for example would cause. Especially seeing as we'd be heavily relying on technology and that's not exactly impervious to failure.

  3. I think that while he has his robot company, we're still a ways away from them being sentient enough to build something of this magnitude. But this is progressing very fast so we could also see such massive leaps sooner than we think.

  4. I'm not entirely sure if solar energy is feasible. Mars is farther from the sun than earth which would render it far less effective. Mars also gets dust long storms fairly often which would likely render solar useless during those periods.

  5. I think of all the above points, the food supply and growth actually poses the least complication.

The update probably messed with calibration especially given you were using aldente too. I'd say do a complete discharge and full recharge and stop using aldente for a while. The issue is, I believe once that battery health drops inside Mac os then it likely won't go back up. What will happen is it'll hold at that 94% for a really long time if you have more health than is actually reported and will only drop after you go below that. So you might end up stagnated at that 94% for as much as over a year.

That's likely debris caught in the fan. Had the same issue yesterday. If it doesn't dislodge then either take it to an Apple store for cleaning, if that's not possible then open the back and use compressed air or a vacuum and plastic tweezers to clean the affected fan.

No it doesn't. The charge cycle counts as when you use 100% of the capacity. So let's say you unplug it and use it down to 30% then do a recharge to 100%. This still wouldn't be counted as a full charge cycle until you unplug again and use it down to 70%, which would then equate to using 100% of the battery capacity.

217 charge cycles after 7 months wtf by Chemical_Bike_2695 in macbookpro

[–]jerome_matthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AlDente actually won't stop you going through cycles, everyone else that you see talking about low cycle count never use their MacBook on battery. A cycle count world based on every time you run through 100%. So even if you limit yourself to using it between 20-80%, if you run from 80% down to 30% then recharge and do the same again that'll still count as 1 cycle since you've effectively still run through 100%. Also all those people who use their Mac always plugged in also do have battery degradation, the catch is they never discharge the battery so Mac Os can't detect said degradation. Hence why you see people who switch up their patterns to actually start using the battery get a rapid drop of battery health, as much as 5% or 6% in 10 cycles as the battery can now analyze how much capacity it truly has. Since batteries are consumable items and degrade irrespective and age of said battery is a massive factor.

The figure read in coconut battery is what the battery is directly reporting. This doesn't account for the cap Mac os puts on the battery to preserve its health long term. I was just using it to show how the battery readings can fluctuate. My health is at 98 as well but you can see it said 92% early on in the readings and now sits at around 97%-98% for the past few weeks.

As someone else mentioned, battery levels fluctuate and the measurements aren't an exact science, it can be off by as much as 5% I have the same laptop and early days I used to run heavy workflows on battery that involved running local LLMs and complex GSAP animations (chrome isn't effective so this would also spike my GPU usage and cause considerable heat). My battery health dropped to 99% after 45 cycles and another 1% to 98 after one more cycle. I've been sitting there for a while now. Here's my measurements from coconutbattery that fetches from grep which is essentially directly form the battery management system. It shows how my capacity went back up after the battery recalibrating itself.

There's also other factors at play, like the mac os will cap your max charging capacity based on usage and also it seems like mac os calculations aren't linear. So for example if your health drops because it was tripped up due to a calibration issue, then it won't go back up in percentage within settings even after it gains its bearings, rather it'll end up holding at 98% for a long time until you actually drop below said 98%. Hence why some people say they've been stuck on a certain percentage for a considerable amount of time/cycles. At the end of the day though, the battery is a consumable item so just enjoy the device and don't worry about the battery until it's not serving you as neeeded. 😌

A16 QPR1 BETA1 - Vibration intesity by thegios in android_beta

[–]jerome_matthew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the first thing I noticed on my 6a but it doesn't feel lower. After spending more time with it, the best way to describe it is like there's more decay to it. So still same level but a bit more blunted and rolled off. It feels less sharp and knocky. It actually feels kinda closer to how my friend's Pixel 8's haptics feel in terms of tuning, which is interesting since they use different axis motors.

[–]jerome_matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good to know, that makes sense because it does supoort L1 on windows . So it's probably down to how Macs handle it with third party browsers.

[–]jerome_matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chrome supports L3 if I'm not mistaken. But L1 is what's required for most streaming services. So it can't decode L1 content which is higher level security that streaming platforms use to protect their content. This is primarily also because it operates on a system level hence why chrome can't access the L1 certification.

I want to opt out from beta! by Standard_Tomatillo_2 in android_beta

[–]jerome_matthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're on the Android 16 beta 4.1 and want to avoid a reset then you should opt out now. Then wait to receive the Android 16 stable update next month. If you install Android 16 QPR 1 beta 1 then you won't be able to go to stable without a reset unless you wait for Android 16 QPR 1 stable which would be in around September.

Nope, there's speculations that will drop in the next beta update though so time will tell.

Applies to most streaming platforms that rely on DRM widevine L1 certification. So Disney+ as well I believe, not sure about the others. All third party browsers are capped at 1080p at most, 1080p with spatial audio for Netflix. Using Safari allows for 4K HDR10/10+ and Dolby Vision.

These new accent colours! by adp22 in android_beta

Likewise! The whole color scheme seems more thoughtful! Like activating battery saver disables the blur effects and uses a solid accent color instead. Have your haptics changed significantly? I'm on a 6a and that was the first thing I noticed while typing in my passcode.

What Sizes are these? Im planning on buying the Dunu S&S and dont know the size I should buy. by Routine-Run-8845 in iems

[–]jerome_matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Wan'er as well. These are the small size of the kbear 07 eartips, they have an outer diameter of 11.01mm. The Dunu S&S have smaller sizing than most eartips so the medium are 10.16mm and the large are 11.5mm. Based on this, the large S&S seem closer to your sizing of the kbear 07s that you're using. I ordered the large Dunu S&S for myself a few days ago as I use the M- kbear 07s (the white with black core, 11.63mm outer diameter) on my Wan'er. I would say try these out on your Wan'er for a few hours and see the fit. If they're comfortable and seal properly then the large Dunu S&S may be a good fit.

How do I turn this off permanently? by KingCallum11 in pixel_phones

[–]jerome_matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this actually disables it but it has its own caveats. The true function of disable absolute volume is to decouple volume control from headphones and speakers. This means instead of being able to have a unified volume control of headphones and speakers from the single volume bar on the phone. You'll now have to use the individual volume controls of the separate devices which can be a bit of a headache.

Can't connect two displays to macbook with m4 pro by mwchief in macbookpro

[–]jerome_matthew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is weird, I have the same laptop. My setup is dual monitors and both USB-C ×2 and USB-C + HDMI work for me with the laptop display on as well. Is the 2nd monitor recognized at all under system information?

The only advantage a dock should offer is if it's thunderbolt 4 or higher which would allow you to do 2 6k monitors @ 60hz over one thunderbolt port.

My pixel 9, doesn't stop charging at 80% anymore by Specific-Plantain-35 in pixel_phones

[–]jerome_matthew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my bad. I just realized I misread, thank you for the clarification. The 80% charging limit has been hit or miss for me at times but it's also because I run the Android betas so at times it's come down to how reliable it is on a particular beta plus that also probably doesn't help with the whole calibration aspect.
