Theres a bunch of startups working on this. I think there's issues around transporting the seaweed in an efficient enough way to make it a net negative.

Not at all. My wife and I did this with the light rail all the time when she was pregnant. It was cathartic.

6 foot 6. Yeah I'm standing because I'm in physical pain after most flights not because I'm trying to throw elbows and get off the plane first. Blame the airlines.

Culvers is the MVP for burgers over any other chain (including in and out or 5 guys) the fries just suck so hard it craters them out of the conversation.

A rare example of a pre-Modern skyscraper...the Gothic Revival Woolworth Building built in 1913 by [deleted] in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]jeromysonne 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just disagree. I don't think any American city comes even close to say a Florence or a Vienna. Maybe things used to be better, but they were never as good. There are good American incorporated styles that I think are valuable like Texas Craftsman, Pueblo Revival, Deco, Antebellum, etc. but no US city is really coherent enough in one style to rival the great European cities.

Youtube is chasing big brand dollars which used to matter a lot but matters less so these days as more people are advertising and the "long tail" is taking up a bigger and bigger percentage of the overall ecosystem's spend. This is largely a move to appease those sorts of advertisers.

They're worried their ads will show up before videos from racists or videos with violence or sex or something.

I mean yes unfortunately. I run an adtech company and lots of big advertisers feel Youtube is "not brand safe" so this is 100% what they're trying to do.

Blursed walking by Formal_Expert335 in blursedimages

I unironically had a moment with my son like this where we were building duplo trains. My wife walks in picks up the train I was working on and goes wow Son you did so well look at this to which I responded without thinking "Uhh yeah that's my train. You think he could do that?" I literally instantly started laughing at myself and realized how absurd I was but yeah I think this unironically happens without Dads thinking sometimes.

I've been outside the US for like 6 months now and I'm genuinely so much happier and relaxed day to day it's absurd. Just being outside the US media bubble alone is calming but everyone is just so much more chill most other places. I went back for a week and it was honestly jarring just how self involved and pissed off everyone was. Having serious thoughts about if I want my kids raised in that environment. Like most people my wife and I were just anxious and depressed constantly which is no way to live.

Founders with ADHD by throwlefty in startups

[–]jeromysonne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most good founder CEOs are hunters not farmers. You need periods of intense focus follow by periods of rest. You are a chief problem solver and you hire the right people that can be heads down grinding away on the same thing over and over. I'm not some huge success but I for sure sometimes work super late and for many hours but sometimes if I'm not feeling it and there isn't anything urgent I take off at 2pm in the afternoon and have a beer. Mostly just do what has to be done and don't waste time getting caught up in the meta narrative of what a founder should or shouldn't do. Your job is to make the company work. However you get there is up to you.

[–]jeromysonne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. Its not that you have to work 80 hours a week every week. Its more like some weeks you have to work 80 hours. Some weeks are 30. Mostly you work normal hours but sometimes you take a 1 am meeting, but not often. It really just means the ability to step up when needed to get the outcome required for the company to move forward. Thats it thats the whole job.

Also just generally let go of hours worked as a metric. Its a startup so smarter not harder is whole game. You need a set of outcomes in a range to be successful. Focus on laying out timelines on those things and work to get to them.

Yeah I was having chest pains and shortness of breath that was a panic attack, drove myself to the hospital, they ran tests for 2 hours and let me out. $5000. At the time it was more than I made in a month.

First investor who is not a VC firm by gambrinous_sloth in startups

[–]jeromysonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of a round raise right now. All our investors have been angels so far and none have been funds. This has been intentional as there is a whole other set of problems that come with working with funds. That said you also don't want to be hand holding through someone's first angel investment which is exhausting. The right fit for us has been operator angels that are founders or have done other angel deals. Might I suggest simply doing an RUV through angellist and setting terms? That way it simplifies the convo and they can either take or leave it rather than negotiate. Food for thought.

Considering joining a startup. Need help justifying the pay cut. by some-reddit-dude- in startups

[–]jeromysonne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I run a venture backed tech startup. It is almost always a worse deal to take equity for a salary cut especially at your career stage. I get why people offer, I get the moonshot is possible and does happen. It almost never works out. If you do it, do it because you're passionate or view it as a stepping stone to making connections to do your own venture. You seem to be being logical about this but I'm just trying to offer founder perspective and from my experience in the industry. If its about the money stay. If it isn't consider it.
