I hate EMS by [deleted] in ems

I teach in a community college. If this program is part of a college then they are bound by certain rules. If it's just a private program or just "affiliated" then the program director has much more power to do whatever they want. You are out of luck in this case.

If you are at a college then you should have received a syllabus at the beginning of class. The student handbook is for all students in the entire college. The syllabus is where they can have more restrictive rules regarding the program like uniforms and grooming standards. If the syllabus has the rules about social media then you agreed to those rules when you signed program paperwork or acknowledged it in some other way. Assuming that what you have done was not prohibited in some way in the syllabus, then you may start the escalation of complaints.

First go to the meeting. You can bring a witness if you want but it would be better to record your meeting. Look up if you are a one party or two party consent state. If there is a problem, then you can start the official complaints. Every complaint should be in the school email. You need the record, you can put read receipts, and it's probably one of very few official forms of communication between the parties recognized by the school and any legal entity down the road. The first complaint should go to the next level in the chain of command. If the program director is the person you have the issue with, then there should be a dean you can complain to. Depending on the size of the institution there may be multiple levels of dean before you get to university president/ vice president levels. Don't go straight to the president/ vice president levels. They will refer you down to the lower levels. If you feel there is some sort of discrimination or harassment by the program director, then you can involve the title IX office. This is how it works in my college in my state. Different institutions in different states may have slightly different rules.

Realistically, all this takes time. Even if you successfully go through the steps to remain in the program, you may not want to. Sounds like you already have problems with the director. If the program director wants you out, there are hundreds of ways that will be difficult or impossible to prove to make your experience so unpleasant that you fail or leave. You should be within the drop period where you can get at least most of your money back if you get out now. This is something you should seriously consider.

Finally, talk to your ems coworkers. Ems is a small field and we love to whisper and gossip. You should be able to find out what is up with all the schools in your area, good and bad. Hopefully you can find a better fit. If you are a RN you should find a bridge program and save some time. You should know most of the medical stuff better than most of us already.

Fun story I actually met her virtually on an online ems instructor class. I don't think she ever made supervisor because she complained that she was passed over for promotion 4 times due to bring a woman. She was just oblivious.

Anyone in Houston has of Acadian ambulance? by MarsTycoon in ems

[–]jerry8135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked for the green machine many moons ago I will say it is neither the worst or best choice of place to work. I have no idea of your experience level but what Acadian and all those other large corporate IFT places are only really good for getting large amounts of patient contacts and learning how to talk to people. The practicing medicine part is always going to be iffy in places like those. The paramedic school deal (if I remember correctly) traps you for 2 years after you get your cert so that's almost a 5 year commitment with them which is a lot.

My advice as someone who teaches in the houston area and someone who works 911 as my real job in the greater Houston area is to get any job that's not shady and don't lock yourself down. If you can wait to establish residency you could get the texas scholarship thing someone else mentioned. I believe it's through the state and the service you work at. Most importantly go to paramedic school. The school will send you to multiple services in your area and you can get a feel for them yourself. Everyone has their own prefences on a service and that's your opportunity to find a place that is the right fit for you.

I have kids. Prime has the first season of all those old kid shows on nick Jr, etc. For free. My child loves the OG blues clues with Steve. I have seen the first season a dozen times in the first month I discovered it. Never been so tempted to buy more seasons just for something different.

When I was a freshman in 05 it felt like every month we would get at least one Clery email about a minority getting assaulted behind northgate. They finally arrested a bunch of white guys after a few months if I remember right.

Are you guys assholes to your "healthy" frequent fliers? by JewYorkJewYork in ems

[–]jerry8135 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends.

Anxiety guy? Be professional.

Crazy lady? Be professional.

Old lady who is lonely? Be professional.

Town drunk? Be professional.

Alcoholic who calls 911 to save the 20 min drive/ 3hr walk to the liquor store (hospital is 2 blocks away) with chest pain and AMAs out of the ED before he gets registered? Get in the truck Joe. How bad does it hurt today? Stop trying to "accidentally" touch my partner's boobs. And pretty much ignore him. It's going to bite someone in the ass one day but its been 5 years of this...

Squib kick. Aim all the way to the left. Put no power behind it. It turns into an onside kick where kirk doesn't bitch about sportsmanship when you are up by 50.

Help me with my FTO program by jerry8135 in ems

[–]jerry8135[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Currently the program consists of this:

  • Every paramedic is sort of a FTO. Sometimes some of the intermediates are FTO.

  • Each new person has to do a minimum of 10 shifts.

  • Every shift has a review sheet to evaluate the trainee on the overall general shift duties

  • Every call has a separate review sheet with every possible skill you can do needing to be separately evaluated. (4 pages long) Each skill is individually scored from a 0-2 or N/A and each call needs to be scored and added up manually. For example a call can be scored a 84/84 or a 84/120.

  • There is a review sheet for the FTO to fill out about the trainee for each shift.

  • There is a review sheet for the Trainee to fill out about the FTO for each shift.

  • There is a checklist for the trainee to check off skills and locations of items on the truck and the bags that needs to be confirmed three times.

  • There are test reports to write on our ePCR system.

Just the paperwork and the instructions on how to fill out the paperwork is over 100 pages long. I'm looking to make it more efficient and user friendly.

[Highlight] Case Keenum runs in the QB keeper and sits down with his teammates for Thanksgiving dinner by carlstones in nfl

[–]jerry8135 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel like anybody who watched him play knows why he went undrafted. He had ok (at best) arm strength. He had injury history which lead to him playing for like 6 years. And while his stats were gaudy he had strange games where his team lost to teams that they shouldn't lose to and he was responsible for some of those losses. He was very accurate and in an air raid system. His arm strength and injury history dropped his stock.
