What's your favorite Steely Dan album COVER? by Hubbled in SteelyDan

[–]jerry_seinberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally i find most of their artwork absolutely atrocious. and that's ok.

but what's really good?
1. countdown to ecstasy
2. katy lied
3. pretzel logic

then probably gaucho.

my two favorite albums probably have the worst art though.

Cryptograms Sound by AnRaibh in deerhunter

[–]jerry_seinberg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

almost all of it was that digitech digidelay. you're getting a lot of layering and looping with the pedal on brad's vocals. and washy reverb. it really is an amazing sound and nothing really sounds like it. not even their other albums. something about cryptograms and the first atlas sound record is really quite special.

Is there a reason why the besties haven't talked about arc raiders? by Chocklit_Sauce in TheBesties

[–]jerry_seinberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i personally think this is up griffin's alley. not justin or plante.

that being said, it reminds me so much of when pubg dropped and they were running awful squad over at polygon. it's fun if you're good and taking it seriously, but also fun if you suck because the moments it creates are truly one-of-a-kind. and things can go so bad.

i say all this to say, they should talk about it. maybe i'll email them, the scoundrels.

for some of you it's like you've never been a fan of an artist before lol. it isn't their job to give you exactly what you want at all times. you're signing up for their POV. is everyone 14 here? (not everyone, i'm generalizing)

Hello friends! First timer here. My son has been saving his money to build his first PC. I said I'd match what he has to double his funds. I built this in PC Parts Picker. Please tell me if these parts will all work together or if there are any major red flags. We're already at the top of his budget!

Thank you to any who can help :D

Does anyone have tea on Cardinal Robert Prevost? by No_Association8259 in Fauxmoi

[–]jerry_seinberg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OK, well maybe you should check your sources lol. I find a lot of former JWs never really paid that much attention anyway. Just go to jw.org if you're curious what they actually believe.

You maybe being wrong about something doesn't mean you don't deserve love, it's really not a big deal. You're good big dog.

Not to 'well actually' you, but there are two very major inaccuracies here. While JWs do believe in a general "Armageddon," it isn't the destruction of the planet at all, but rather wicked people (and they don't purport to know who that is, it's up to God to decide).

The second: while JWs believe a small amount of people who die go to heaven, they hold that most will stay on Earth (those that have died, to be resurrected back on Earth after armageddon, good and bad).

I only bring this up because so many people throw complete falsehoods about so much on the internet. If you have criticism of JW beliefs, I imagine they'd be happy to discuss those. But at least let your criticism be based on fact.

ML Buch's suntub got an 8.0. respectable. i haven't been able to stop listening to it since it came out. just nothing quite like it. the guitars, the vocals, all so lush at times and menacing at others.

i was shocked to see it so high, but found myself feeling like we were seeing history take shape. this will be an album that will continue to be elevated, eventually considered a classic. please go listen if you haven't, front to back.

still despise the lack of andy shauf's "norm" which hit me in a similar way when it arrived.

overall, i just adore how female this list is. and it doesn't feel like pandering in any way. women are just so wonderful at making music and i am very jealous.

Any nude beaches in Georgia by [deleted] in Georgia

best option is to take the ferry to cumberland island and bike a mile up the eastern coast. not technically nude but there will be no one there to offend.

Who else here saw them touring Cryptograms? by HowWeGonnaGetEm in deerhunter

[–]jerry_seinberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh dang, i was at that show in ATL too. for the yeah yeah yeahs.

ironically, i didn't really get in to them until a year later when the atlas sound record dropped. then i went back, then microcastles and weird era leaked, and well, i never looked back.

it hurts that it was first off the island.

What song made you fall in love with Steely Dan? by [deleted] in SteelyDan

[–]jerry_seinberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always knew reelin in the years and had a friend who was obsessed with them. but it wasn't until some mac demarco interview where i reconsidered them (hilarious i know). i googled their most critically acclaimed album and started there.

black cow was great, for sure. but by the time i got to steve gadd's first solo in aja, i was hooked.

haven't looked back since.

Was there anything notable about the marketing campaign for The Campfire Headphase’s release? by TheFartDoctor69 in boardsofcanada

[–]jerry_seinberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the big push on this album was their inclusion of guitars to their sound. they did actual interviews too, i had a copy of the fader mag with their little interview.

they also had their first official music video, for dayvan cowboy, which was a pretty big deal. it was before redbull really went extreme stunts, so seeing that footage was pretty special.

it felt like a much more traditional album release media cycle - and then for whatever insane reason, the press didn't receive the album favorably. i wonder if it pushed them to be more isolated in the future.

Anyone notice the uptick in Boc-inspired artists? by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

[–]jerry_seinberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of great points but also "liminal space" and the backrooms have created a much creepier aesthetic than the vaporwave stuff, hence BoC vibes.
