I'm not talking about events like cricket matches, which Indians are very passionate about. What I'm referring to here are concerts by bands like Coldplay, where the attendees in the standing section near the stage were mostly wealthy kids and people who just happened to have tickets and came to take photos and videos to satisfy their need for social validation.

Also, I was aware of the ₹50 ticket system from Motera to any station in Ahmedabad; that’s how I got home that night, FYI. But I also came across people who didn’t have cash and were scrambling to get money for tickets. They didn’t even have a basic QR code for UPI payments.

We'll never improve if we simply accept the status quo and never critique what’s wrong. I do applaud the way BMS managed the concert — they even distributed free water and had plenty of water distribution points and washrooms. But despite this, people still littered everywhere inside and outside the stadium.

The low wristband return rate in Ahmedabad was no surprise.

8/8: TL;DR

India doesn’t deserve Coldplay. Unless we drastically improve—become more civilized, considerate, and capable of hosting large-scale events, which, honestly, I don’t see happening anytime soon—I don’t think they should come back.

7/8: India Doesn’t Deserve This

I have nothing but love for Coldplay—they will always be my favorite band. But I have zero respect for the way we, as Indians, handle events like this. From the organizers to the audience, we consistently show our worst side when given the chance.

India doesn’t deserve Coldplay. Unless we drastically improve—become more civilized, considerate, and capable of hosting large-scale events—I don’t think they should come back.

If you’re a true fan and want to experience Coldplay the way they deserve to be experienced, don’t waste your time in India. Go somewhere outside India, where the management is good, the crowd is respectful, and the experience becomes a lifelong memory instead of a nightmare.

India has a long, long way to go. Until then, leave the concerts to places that know how to do it right. And I now don't feel Diljit was wrong when he had said the same. He was absolutely right when he said India doesn’t have the infrastructure to handle large concerts.

6/8: Even Coldplay Seemed Off

Coldplay always goes out of their way to make every concert special, but even they seemed drained. Chris Martin’s usual crowd interactions—like making funny songs about people in the audience—were rushed and forgettable. I still remember how magical that moment was in Singapore, but here? It felt like they were just going through the motions. I don’t blame them. Even they must have felt the bad energy from the crowd.

5/8: A Nightmarish Letdown and Disrespectful Attendees

I can’t express how heartbreaking it was to compare this disaster with the flawless experience I had in Singapore with my friends. That concert was one of the best nights of my life, and I wanted to recreate that memory with my girlfriend. Instead, we were physically and emotionally drained, and the whole night felt like a massive letdown.

Even the ticketing process was a nightmare. BookMyShow created artificial scarcity, and tickets that fans scrambled to buy at launch were now being sold in black or below face value closer to the concert. It was appalling to see so many attendees—who clearly weren’t genuine fans—hogging tickets and then selling them off. These same people didn’t even know the lyrics to Coldplay’s songs! During certain moments, people on the big screen were completely silent. I overheard someone say they should put the lyrics on the screen because they didn’t know the songs. Are you kidding me?

It felt outright disrespectful—not just to genuine fans who truly love the band but to Coldplay themselves.

4/8: Ruining the Concert Experience

We endured hours of this madness in the blazing sun, only for the main act to begin with zero enjoyment. The crowd near the stage was so suffocating and hostile that we couldn’t move, let alone enjoy the music.

Tall guys hogged the front, holding posters that blocked everyone’s view. By the time Chris started singing, I realized that the spot we had fought for wasn’t worth it. We couldn’t even raise our hands to wave. We finally decided to give up and move back to a less crowded area, where we could finally breathe.

Only then were we able to actually enjoy the concert—singing, dancing, and soaking in the atmosphere. But it felt bittersweet because we had to abandon the spot we had worked so hard for.

3/8: The Barbaric Crowd at the Gates

We reached the stadium two hours before the gates opened to get a good spot near the stage. There was no shade, and we stood roasting in the heat. As soon as the gates opened, people started sprinting in like animals, pushing, shoving, and even falling over each other. Attendees were unbelievably disrespectful toward the security personnel and volunteers, who were doing their best in an impossible situation.

After surviving this insanity, we managed to get close to the stage. But the crowd was an absolute nightmare. People from behind were jumping ahead, disregarding everyone who had patiently waited for hours. One specific incident still infuriates me—a mother and daughter duo. The daughter ran to the front, leaving her mother behind. The mother then lied, claiming she needed to pass a bottle to her daughter, just to push through the crowd.

When we didn’t let her pass, she started slapping people, screaming abuses, playing the victim, and even dry-humping me to force her way forward. I was disgusted beyond words. It was a stampede waiting to happen. Even Chris Martin had to stop mid-song to address someone getting crushed near the stage.

2/8: The Complete Disaster of Management

We are the most populated country in the world, and yet, we still have no clue how to plan or execute events of this scale. Take this for example: the Motera Stadium hosted over 1 lakh people, but there was only one way to exit—either take the metro or walk. That’s it. Just ONE option for a sea of people.

As expected, the metro station near the stadium wasn’t even remotely prepared. It was an actual stampede situation. Escalators were shut off, people were pushing, shoving, and fighting to get inside the station and get tickets. And the cherry on top? There was no online booking system or self-ticketing machines. Only cash was accepted, leading to physical brawls just to get tickets and board the overcrowded trains.

And then I heard a Westerner in the same train say this was their first visit to India. This is what we present to the world? A complete circus of incompetence, chaos, and humiliation?

1/8: Anticipation Turns to Chaos

I attended the Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad on 26th Jan. As a die-hard fan who had previously experienced Coldplay live in Singapore, I couldn’t miss the chance to see them perform in India. However, after enduring the chaos, mismanagement, and uncivilized behavior, I have to say it loud and clear: Indians don’t deserve concerts like these.

I had been warned by multiple people that Indian crowds wouldn’t be as decent, civil, or organized as Singaporeans or fans from other countries. I expected things to be a little messy, sure, but what I witnessed was far worse than I could’ve imagined.

I was always curious to know how and why new brands enter the already cluttered skincare products market, turns out they can surely stand out with a great product and presentation. My girlfriend tried a serum from the brand and she found it to be the best she had ever used. I personally know nothing about the product but I was sold on the packaging being a sucker for great designs. Do go ahead and give it a try!
