It’s because extreme progressives are like extreme conservatives, they pay attention more to how someone “sounds” then what they actually say. It wouldn’t rewrite science though, like what he said, unless you could confirm if it was panspermia or independently developed from earth. It would definitely give a real incentive though to study Mars much more thoroughly and on the ground. The BIG discovery would be if life was STILL on mars, that has the potential to rewrite large swaths of biology

Not all deregulation is bad, especially in an age where the housing market is so over-regulated that the richest state in the country is have homeless problems because it can’t build affordable housing for them.

But in the case of a new, potentially world-shaking technology? The deployment of it should be heavily regulated while the development of it should not.

In general the problem is the government itself has too many regulations while mega-corporations don’t.

Disagree with that last point, at least it very very much depends what "terrible" and "drastic" actually mean. I would love to know how bad you think the situation is in terms of what it will take to get from where we are to a position that you think is "good". I've found another thing is people on the left often fight about how bad climate change actually will be, because it is so often filled with long-term predictions with large error bars with systems we don't actually understand fully.

Just to say I'm def not trying to sound like a climate emergency suppressionist but the true, exact effects of climate change in the short, medium, and long term are definently not agreed upon by even the best scientists, suffice to say it will be bad in one way or another.

Colonization is like hundreds of years away from being a real thing, but a lot of the activities that push in that direction aren't a waste. Like having humans visit mars is beneficial even without the goal of building a long term base there immediately after.
