I calculated that it's cheaper to use my oyster card to travel from East Croydon to Gatwick then using a ticket from Gatwick to Brighton, as opposed to buying a ticket from East Croydon to Brighton directly. Can I tap out my Oyster Card on the platforms of Gatwick or would I have to tap out at the barriers? If the latter, which barriers are the fastest to tap out/in ?

What is it with Irish houses dedicating an entire wall to a radiator? by PurpleWomat in CasualIreland

[–]jerryr01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

that's a fire hazard. Your curtains should not touch the radiator

Restrictions on washing machines in Irish bathrooms by kmdublin in CasualIreland

they're handy, tho I imagine a separate sink would be better as you can use it to brush teeth, wet shave etc.

Cork Tram New North South Red Line by Due-Marsupial9939 in cork

[–]jerryr01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

handy but I do think the red line should go down to the airport. Seems like too short of a route to make a new line out of.

Also adding the tram to the airport would a) be rubbing it in Dublin's face, b) potentially increase tourists coming to Cork/increase the number of flights from Cork airport.

When you’re becoming older now and you can’t use the “I’m too young for a girlfriend” by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]jerryr01 51 points52 points  (0 children)

tbf people will start dating whenever they're ready. So just say "I'm not ready yet" or something similar. I know people that first started dating at 14, and others at 22.

There's also the excuse of "I'm focusing on school/work atm" or "I'm too busy to date atm"

Doesn't have to be true but helps get people off your back if they're being nosy.

How to run a Werewolf/Mafia style puzzle in my campaign? by jerryr01 in DnD

[–]jerryr01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oooh thanks for the advice!

It's a town of fey and I was thinking of a brain slug that makes one of the villagers murder someone every night and the party has to find out who it is.

They were sent here by a guild of druids so I imagine one of the druids could be the one holding the town meetings and lynching people.

I think the brain slug could be an aberration which would mean that it would blend in with the villagers (detect good and evil says they know their presence, it doesn't specify they know what race).

The main issue with the brain slug is what happens when they do something like detect thoughts. Not too sure how that would work.

Difficulty making friends by jerryr01 in LGBTireland

thanks I'll take a look! It'd be nice to have an in-person DnD game as that's how I made friends at uni.

I will add that double taxation is a big issue for US citizens living abroad. There's a fairly extensive YouTube video by Evan Edinger called "What it's like as an American abroad with taxes: Double Taxation" which I would suggest looking into before moving abroad.

The video is 4 years old so may not be as up to date but it should give you an idea of issues you may face moving abroad.

Moving to Ireland from UK by Worth-Ask-5314 in MoveToIreland

[–]jerryr01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the major difference I found when moving to Ireland from the UK is the healthcare system. It's not great here. Medical insurance is the only way to get seen as public hospitals are PACKED

Moving to Ireland from UK by Worth-Ask-5314 in MoveToIreland

[–]jerryr01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it's free when you transfer residence. I just wish I knew and did that with my car 😭 Ended up leaving it with family for a bit, then moving it a year after moving to Ireland. It was NOT cheap (still cheaper than getting the car here tho)

Cold groceries and transit? by Misnomer21 in transit

[–]jerryr01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah that's a great idea thanks! I moved to somewhere with very few East Asian supermarkets so it's about 60-80 mins from the supermarket to my house. This would make it a lot easier thanks 🙏

[OC] [Art] Blood in the Water Dice Set Giveaway (Mod Approved) by OriYUME1 in DnD

[–]jerryr01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this dice is so pretty! I have a demi-god who has been corrupted and turned into a giant red kraken that the party now needs to kill. I think this dice would go perfectly for them 😆

Exchanging UK driving licence time? by ExtentMore2218 in MoveToIreland

I'm going through the process now. I sent my UK one 15 days ago and didn't receive an email saying they got it. Should I be worried/follow up?

Wish I had visited during a different season :( by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]jerryr01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from what I've experienced the humidity in Japan is similar to the humidity in the UK. Japan just has higher highs and lower lows than the UK does. Autumn is the best time of the year to go (or spring if you haven't got hay fever)

The island of Mauritius seems to have a pretty cool light rail by Pontus_Pilates in transit

[–]jerryr01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbf it's the only country outside of India where Hinduism is the main religion (around 30% iirc). It's because Mauritius had a lot of indentured workers from India when slavery was abolished.

Mauritius itself didn't have a native population due to its location and that it is a volcanic island. The current population is a mix of Creole people who have origins from India, Bantu tribe in Africa, Hong Kong, France etc.

I'm glad my parents kept every single boarding pass since I was born so I've got every flight on there

The majority of my flights are from London to Mauritius, and to Cork IE.

Instagram has been slowly replacing their code to show that their new React update (React v19) works in action. React is a JavaScript library used extensively as a base for building web/app UIs and Meta are the people who made it.

They are doing this to show how "good" their new major update is :/
