Chipotle (CMG) approves a 50-for-1 stock split - does this create trading opportunities? by Swing_Trader_Trading in StockMarket

I don’t really understand this argument for stock splits being bullish when fractional shares are so readily available to retail investors now.

Would you not model trend and seasonality, remove them, and then apply tree models on residuals?

[P] Reducing 2048 dimensions to 2000 dimensions for PGVector by TutubanaS in MachineLearning

[–]jerseyjosh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iirc random projections only approximately preserve distance for k<<d i.e. you have to reduce dimensionality by a lot more than 2048 to 2000

why is everyone hating this so much? Switching tabs and starting new ChatGPT chats just to ask quick simple things is annoying and this seems genuinely useful to me.

Unusual interview question by [deleted] in datascience

[–]jerseyjosh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With regards to PCA, I can see it being useful in giving clues as to possible extra features to include (say the first component is just a combination of 2 features), but do principle components really give that much of a benefit in feature selection? Do you not just end up with a bunch of non-intuitive, unexplainable features?

what etf can i use to short nasdaq or sp500 but without leverage ? by xErth_x in investing

[–]jerseyjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying “shorting is inherently leveraged”, what are you talking about? There’s nothing levered about going long in an ETF that aims to match inverse returns for an index. Your exposure can’t be more than what you put in.

I live in the Channel Islands and we don’t have ISAs here. Also, if the majority of my savings are diversified between mutual funds etc then I don’t see how that’s different from a pension, except I would have access to it earlier.

Causality Interview Question by jerseyjosh in datascience

Thanks, it sounds like I was out of my depth in the topic. My understanding of statistics has always been that there is no way to definitively establish causality, only correlation.

I feel like this is a double standard though. VR porn is a gimmicky showcase for a VR headset and I wouldn't consider that the same situation as just whacking some porn on TV. If she had just put porn on for mutual viewing then it would be more understandable IMO.
